November 3Nov 3 Popular Post I did not see a thread, so I thought I would start one. Who all is going to make the trip to Athens in a couple of weeks? My current plan is to attend both the UGA game and the Falcons-Panthers game the next day (go Bijan!). I'm thinking I will try to hit up the College Football HOF on Monday before I leave town. Anyone with any great ideas/suggestions? I have been to Atlanta for work a few times, but pretty much just the downtown/Georgia Tech area. Also - The guys I was going to go with ended up bailing recently, but I am going anyway, so if any Texas fan(s) are interested in meeting up for either game, I would love to attend with some friendly faces. I generally wait until the day of/day before the game to get tickets, as they almost always go down as you get closer to game time, but I am not wedded to that strategy.
November 3Nov 3 Went to SEC championship and Sugar Bowl last year. Not to rain on your parade, but Atlanta sucks and the College Football HOF is terrible. I think Falcons game would be fun, but I would skip the HOF. Good restaurant for breakfast is Atlanta Breakfast Club and Poor Calvin’s is a real good Asian place for dinner.
November 3Nov 3 Thanks for starting thread. Going with 7 others. We'll be in Athens Thurs - Sun. Looking for recs.
November 3Nov 3 Hit https://www.foxbrosbbq.com/ for some Texas BBQ. Think they have a few locations now.
November 3Nov 3 From what I remember working a couple days in Athens several years ago....Athens makes west campus look like Beverly Hills. West campus is dumpy, congested with too many new structures built on top of or next to older run down places. Athens is basically the same but uglier. To use a nicer word, Athens is gritty and on gameday there is trash/garbage everywhere. On the other hand, the eye candy is second to none. Edited November 3Nov 3 by jdhorn92

I disagree about the CFB HOF. I went to the one in South Bend in 1995 when Texas played up there. It was ok, but not great. I think what they have done in Atlanta is much better, and while it's not something I would go to Atlanta to visit, it is worth seeing if you are in Atlanta and looking for something to do. Definitely worth spending a couple of hours if you are a fan of the sport (which I'll assume you are if you are going to Athens to watch the Horns). The Aquarium is cool also. (csb... in March of 2020 we visited the aquarium culminating in the show in their big auditorium filled with hundreds of school kids, basically the next day Covid shut down the world I remember thinking if my last public event was a show at the Atlanta aquarium I probably should have reevaluated my life choices. /csb) Wish I was going next week. Should be a fun trip. Edited November 3Nov 3 by orange dream
November 3Nov 3 I was in Atlanta over the summer. I recommend the CFB HOF. It uses an RFID tag on your badge to spin up Longhorn stuff first at each exhibit for you. Also, the list of National Championships per team correctly listed Texas A&M with one in 1939. Go eat lunch or dinner at Mary's Mac Tea Room. Yes, it's a restaurant!!
November 4Nov 4 If anyone is bringing kids and want to sugar them up, the Coca Cola museum is pretty cool.

November 4Nov 4 Seems like every time we play in GA, I go out of town. I'm flying out next Thursday so will wave to you guys who come in early. Aquarium is legit. Coca-cola museum right next door I've never actually been to, but it'salways packed. Foxx Bros is the only decent BBQ you'll find in the state, but it's honestly skippable if you are from Texas. November 4Nov 4 I also enjoyed the CFB hall of fame when I went before the SEC CG. Lots of cool memorabilia and some fun exhibits.

It’s like they have the drag across from campus (Broad St.) with 6th Street (Clayton St.) directly behind it. It will be crowded everywhere all weekend. If you want to grab dinner in that general downtown area, Last Resort and Chucks are good options, but you should get on the list by 4:30 if you want a shot at getting seated by 8:30. Same for some restaurants in the Five Points area.

Same for some restaurants in the Five Points area. Granted, it's been almost 20 years since I lived in Athens, so I'm not familiar with all the latest bars/restaurants, but Last Resort has always been a good choice for lunch or dinner. In general, as you walk from the Arch (northern edge of Campus) and cross Broad Street, if you go right, that's frat bro territory, and if you go left, that's the more "alternative" area, culminating in the GA Theatre, 40 Watt Club and the Globe, close to the western edge of downtown. The Globe has a very 90s selection of import and craft beers (one of the few places you can get Fullers ESB on draught) @HenryJames along with terrible service and so-so food. Other places I've been lately - Creature Comforts tap room (NW downtown) and Trappeze Pub (west side as well). If you're not afraid to branch out a little, Athens' other brewery, Akademia, has great food and a chill atmosphere, but it's far from campus, near the mall.

November 5Nov 5 Since I’m already here in Metro Atlanta I might have to bite the bullet and sit on the Georgia side of the stadium. Hopefully there’s some other Longhorns on that side as well

November 6Nov 6 Considering taking my Junior for his 17th birthday. fly in Saturday morning, leave Sunday morning. would stay at hotel somewhere in between atlanta and athens. Looking at stubhub. Anyone with experience at Georgia's stadium? It looks like the 200 level is a smaller, pricier spot. Is that a suite setup?
November 6Nov 6 Like others have said, the aquarium, Coca Cola Museum and Chattanooga would be the best places to visit. I used to call on medical device manufacturers in Chattanooga and always loved visiting the area. Chattanooga was the site for some major Civil War battles: The battle for Chattanooga and Missionary Ridge/Lookout Mountain. Lots of park areas with historical significance. For food recs, Jim N Nicks has good BBQ and homemade sides and there are several locations in Atlanta Metro - www.jimnnicks.com. And The Varsity has good chili dogs/burgers. The location near Georgia Tech is the original location and largest.
November 6Nov 6 I'll be interested to hear reports on gameday experience. their fans, etc.. Most of those I encountered both in Austin and certainly most at the SEC championship game were pretty fucking garbage across the board. Reminded me a lot of Tech Tards without the long one-sided rivalry experience but with added benefit of drunk grown men barking like that's fucking cool. Weirdos. This game weekend didn't work well for me but not high on my list of must see SEC venues. Hope to hear that I'm wrong though and pretty cool experience.
November 6Nov 6 Mama's Boy for breakfast or lunch. Farmcart was also good. Blue Sky Bar is worth checking out.
November 6Nov 6 I hope Sanford Stadium has individual seats as opposed to bench seats. I went to the Georgia/Oklahoma Rose Bowl in around 2018 and the combined BMI of the two fanbases was staggering. But Georgia fans were next level fat. I mean it seemed like every one of them was clinically obese.
November 7Nov 7 Sanford is essentially a large high school stadium. Aluminum benches and painted CMU. Edited November 7Nov 7 by JBJ
November 7Nov 7 Tons of breweries in Midtown Atlanta. Fox Bros is good bbq. There’s a couple others (Heirloom, Owens & Hull) but they aren’t near downtown. West Midtown has lots of good restaurants. If you want steak go to Marcel. Aquarium and CFHOF are good. Antico pizza near GT is some of the best Neapolitan in the country. Good luck in Athens. I grew up there and my parents live there but I never go out there any more. Sanford and Son Stadium is a cesspool.

November 8Nov 8 BBQ snobs will hate Jim N Nicks. Don't bother with BBQ in Georgia. Also, The Greenville-Spartanburg airport is about 1 hour 45 minutes from Athens. Greenville has a walkable downtown and is a decent place to spend the night.
November 8Nov 8 The World of Coke tasting room is kind of cool, but the rest of it is asinine. It’s pretty expensive for all you can drink coke. The aquarium is great and it’s worth it to buy some of the add-ons where you can kiss the starfish or whatever. My experience in Athens is that it’s a dumpier version of old Austin.

November 8Nov 8 Weather’s gonna be perfect here next weekend; sunny and 70 for the high, high/mid 50s during the game…
