Anybody have any thoughts/intel on this endeavor (USL team playing in the Cotton Bowl in 2027, looking for training grounds "in Dallas County".)

I was a season ticket holder for the Burn and was enthusiastic when they played in the Cottom Bowl (a relatively short trip for me).  When they moved to Frisco after a one year stop in Southlake while the stadium was being built, it was nice but really a beating -- may as well have been in Arlington and fuck Arlington.

Ever since they moved to Frisco I started fantasizing about a blue-collar team out of Dallas that would compete with them.

While I give this endeavor a 1% chance of success and a 99% chance of moving to Arlington if they do succeed, it certainly sounds like fun - maybe how the Burn felt back when they started.  Wasn't Austin a USL team?

I actually just learned of this yesterday.

Austin had a USL team - Austin Bold FC from 2017-2021.  The MLS team was an expansion team and not related.  To the contrary, the Bold  owner fought hard to keep the MLS franchise out, but failed.

You weren't far off on the thread title - one of Austin FC's chants includes "Fuck Dallas! Fuck Frisco! Fuck the Houston Dynamo!"

I think they initially considered building their stadium off Bush, about 5 mins from me.  Plan fell through.  Lame.  Would've been fun.  I was already looking to buy merchandise and possibly season tickets.

USL is 3rd tier, right?

I think USL Championship is considered 2nd tier talentwise.  Between MLS and MLS Next Pro / USL League One.

Branding is kind of nice, if a bit inscrutable.

(I would have had a copperhead facing off with a labradoodle to more correctly represent Dallas.)

Like the idea of promotion/relegation which is being teased.

I told my British buddy, and former flatmate in Buenos Aires, that Dallas has an “Atlético” now just like he does in Madrid. (Where he now lives.)

He read the article that I had linked in a text and then saw the crest…

…and wrote back:

”The crest looks like two cokeheads making out in a frantic BA boliche*.”

*”boliche” = “night club” / “discoteca”
