November 8Nov 8 I don't live in Austin, just wondering what the general opinion is on Joe Rogan, his club, & the 5 year mass migration he sparked of open micers, podcasters, bootlickers, & fans moving to ATX? His standup is terrible & I used to listen if he had an interesting guest on up until a few years ago.
November 8Nov 8 Popular Post He fucking sucks and everything he does also sucks. Ive seen him a few times. Hes always sweaty and walking around like a total fucking douchebag. Funny thing hes usually alone and people avoid him. Maybe he smells.
November 8Nov 8 I’ve been here since 1959. I wouldn’t walk across the street to see LBJ, so no political clowns interest me.
November 8Nov 8 He's a rat. His whole family, rats. Seriously, those guys are pathetic - they try so hard to be edgy, but the comedy is total one-note shit and the place is poison.

For the record, Rogan is not overtly political. And that's why he's toxic. He's a dumb, okey doke, get-along guy that has political guests that are essentially manipulating him and his audience. He's not smart enough to challenge them and by just nodding along with them, implicitly endorses them and makes them acceptable to his audience. On occasion, his endorsement rises above implicit to explicit, but I still don't consider him political. He seems to appeal to the sort of youth that are susceptible to the manosphere because of their impotence (not sexually, but that too) and that's a profitable but bad place to be, really. November 8Nov 8 Just looked up the meaning of edgelord. I think I was one during my college days. Geez what a fucking awful way to live.

November 8Nov 8 The influence is terrible. Comics and culture in Austin used to punch up- especially the libertarian types. Now they kiss up and kick down. Nowadays it’s the equivalent of comics like Jerry Lewis in the 1950’s doing ching chong Chinese laundry routines. Talented people playing it safe, hanging out with big shots and drawing no blood. Rogan did that. Edited November 8Nov 8 by Bozo_Casanova

November 8Nov 8 Popular Post joe giving a platform to people like brendan schaub, bert kreischer, bryan callen, tony hichcliffe, etc, has been terrible. super unfunny people with nothing to offer but trans jokes and anger. or in bert’s case just a human train wreck who will do anything for attention. none of these people are funny, at all, and yet there is somehow an audience for all of these chodes, right here in austin. it’s fucking nauseating knowing how many racist idiots love here and are willing to pay money to go watch these people. November 8Nov 8 Rohan and the people who listen to him can be summed up succinctly: It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled. Mark Twain

I don't get the serious online hate for Bert. His schtick is he's a frat boy alcoholic in his 50s, but he doesn't do anything polarizing like political hot takes & endorsements. His standup is also terrible, but he manages to sell out arenas & stadiums. I don't think his irl fan base that skews older even listens to podcasts or has any idea how hated he is online.
November 9Nov 9 "The guy sucks and is super successful, I don't know why people hate him" is quite the take.

November 9Nov 9 Rogan and his crew of comics will literally silence you for having a differing opinion
November 10Nov 10 I think we can wind this thread down. By their own words, the locals don’t care or in some cases even know who Rogan is. The only thing that can bring this thread back to life is if a working stand up comic describing their experience working in Austin. Edited November 10Nov 10 by billfromlaketravis
November 10Nov 10 Lily Thai is a much more interesting Austin resident (or former resident) to talk about.

Also, did you know that is now illegal in Canada to say Christmas or go to church? You can go to prison just for praying in your own home. I don't really understand fame. I've seen some Kreischer clips and watched the Cabin series on Netflix while high at a friend's recommendation and find him pretty funny. Also never noticed him being overtly political and didn't know he was close to Rogan. I can see him being a little one note in the long term but I also don't delve deep into stuff so it hasn't affected my view of his comedy.
