I just saw Django for the first time at iPic.  I think I'll check out The Shining and Casablanca too. I've never seen those either.

Too late the hero. Old Michael Cain, Cliff Robertson war movie. I don’t think I have seen it since its original release. We are a much more sophisticated audience these days so yes, it’s dated. But, there is something about it that works.

Overwhelming. Important.

I have tix to see it tomorrow afternoon. Weather permitting.

Like all of his films, it will feel very intellectualized at first, until a few hours later you realize that Jonathan Glazer had plunged his hand into your chest and gripped your heart tight from the very beginning. I can't stop thinking about it. It's also hilarious how his adaptation process seems to take less and less from its source material with each film he makes (not a spoiler). The first five or so minutes (hard to tell) almost made me feel like I was starting trip. Incredible sound design.

Pre-show felt like a Seinfeldian problem: was it okay to order popcorn during a movie like The Zone of Interest? We decided that it was fine. Didn't feel like anyone else in the theater gave it a second thought.

Saw the Iron Claw Saturday night. Zac Effron can act given the role. The curse of living up to beyond reasonable expectations was real and tortured.

Marvel cinematic universe aka comic book movies

Ah right thx

Infinity Pool. felt like a two-hour Tool video. not nearly as shocking as it was trying to be. meh.

Killing of a Sacred Deer. because i am now obsessed with Barry Keoghan lol. odd but nicely shot and well acted.

The Fabelmans.  It was fine for what it was.  I don't think I would have been the slightest bit interested if it wasn't a semiautobiographical story of Spielberg's upbringing.

American Fiction. Really well done. Enjoyed it.

Enjoyed it. Best use of sound in a movie that I can remember.

Anatomy of a Fall. Good performance by the female lead but overall the film is not very remarkable. Low-key horrified by the depiction of the French legal system if the court scene was anywhere near accurate.

He's fantastic in The Banshees of Inisherin, if you haven't seen that yet.

A lot of visitors to Boys Town have thought the same thing.

Not to be contrarian, but I didn't get the rave reviews here on the Banshees thread when I first saw it. He was good, don't get me wrong--just didn't think he did anything spectacular with the role or the part that was special.

I said at the time and still seriously ask:

What am I missing about Barry Keoghan's acting that was superb and masterful? He played a young abused man with some mental slowness well enough, but for me it was Colin Ferrell who was the MVP. His character demanded more of him by struggling through a broader range of emotions and mindsets and Ferrell killed it in comparison, but all I heard about was this young guy's performance which, again was good.

I think everyone in the movie is really great and didn't say anything about one performance being better than the other.

Depeche Mode 101. Weird little time capsule of the late 80’s with some great concert footage.

You need to enjoy the silence otherwise it's no good.

Acting isn't a competitive sport. The whole cast, as Safe Sex writes above, were exceptional. Keoghan's achievement may be marked by the fact that he was so memorable with so little screen time. His hopeless profession of love was sweet and devastating at the same time. Kerry Condon shines in that scene as well. His hopelessness is an echo of the whole movie where Condon is the only one to escape.

To be clear, I have enormous admiration for Ferrell, as well. Maybe the best lead performance of that year.

Saw Barbie last night, quite a lot of fun and some good laughs. It contained a surprising amount of Matrix references and similarities. I thought it was a good comedy, but I didn't think anything about it was Oscar worthy. It will be interesting to see if it gets any noms. The set design and story were great, and the cast was very entertaining. 6/10

Watched Oppenheimer too, and really can't say enough great things about it. I hope RDJ wins for supporting actor, he was excellent. It's one of those movies that is really long, but the pacing and intensity keeps you so engaged that you don't feel like it's 3 hours long. The cast is epic, so many actors you will recognize from all over. Such an excellent way of telling a story that would otherwise seem dry and somewhat boring, but was constantly full of tension, intrigue and interesting dialogue. 10/10

Anyone else go see them at Six Flags in Arlington for that tour?

Great show.  OMD opened, IIRC.

Halfway thru the first Episode of "Ted" (Peacock). It's funny as hell. Warning: politically incorrect. Never seen the word "motherfucking" on TV before. Not ever sure I've seen it in a movie. Didn't know what to expect, but I like it.

PS Haven't seen the movie released in 2012 with Mark Wahlberg.

38 years ago today. this movie is all about kicking ass and red / white / blue all over the place ....

Fury.  I know the tank nerds bag in this movie for all its inaccuracies, and I understand that.  But the characters and acting make it a great movie.  Bernthal, Labouf and Pitt steal every scene they're in.

I liked this. There were areas where I felt like it needed to dig in and commit more, but it was pretty good for Jake Johnson's directorial debut.

Mulholland Falls.

1940’s LA Noir? Check.

Mob movie? Maybe (?)

Jennifer Connolley’s glorious, big ass titties in their prime in the opening credits? By Gawd, this movie should be a museum!

So I often find that about 45min into a modern "comedy" that I haven't so much as chuckled once, and I'll turn it off. Just fininshed Ted, season 1 (7 episodes). Laughed my ass off.

Plan to watch the movie soon.

Let me really blow your mind.....

There are 2 movies

Seen spoken, heard, whatever - on a network production.

Shit - all the time. Fuck occasionally, Dick yeah. Cock rare. Cocksucker rarer. Motherfucker? Don't think so. Could be a brain fart.

Oh network tv. Technically not a violation unless someone complains I think.

“Crash must have called him a cocksucker.”

LOA: pretty good movie, but doesn't it begin with hero running off the road at a high speed with a motorcycle?

Okay, Ted (2012) turned out to be pretty funny. Should probably point out that the series is a Prequel of sorts, taking place while John is a teenager. Less structure. Throw in goofy parents and hot aunt. No Mila Kunis in her prime.

Self Reliance

Kinda weird but I wasn't bored.

Spoiler

I kinda liked the fact that there were no twists. Everything was how it was presented to be.

I've never thought about sound editing in a movie until this one. So much of the movie is about the background details - the sounds, the puffs of smoke from the train that passes by, etc. I don't think I've ever seen such a visceral movie that is so free of violence and gore.

One of the most horrifying movies I've ever seen.

And what an ending, fucking hell

Are you talking about Paramount? I'm pretty sure Yellowstone and its spinoffs use "motherfucker" frequently.

That's what she said.

Speaking of long, we watched the 1939 classic Gone with the Wind last night.   1939 also produced The Wizard of Oz.  Those flying monkeys can go straight to hell.

Outlaw King on Netflix.

You’ve seen this exact plot a dozen times before. Plucky, outnumbered Scots battle evil, numerically superior English. That’s the entire plot. But it’s well made and well acted and worth a couple hours of your time. Plus you get to see Florence Pugh’s boobs.

1939 had a helluva run.

Just the fucking G's was brutal.

Very nice link, I had no idea.  I'm gonna have to search up for It's a Wonderful World, Jamaica Inn, and In Name Only.

Haven't seen those. Thinking about it. It's pretty cutting edge.

So just finished the final episode of Rome (2005) (8.7/10 at IMDB). Haven't seen it since it premiered. What an amazing piece of historical fiction about the last days of the Roman Empire condensed into a few years. A strong friendship forms between two warriors who in many ways couldn't be more different. Great acting all around. Unforgettable characters include Julius Caesar, Mark Antony, Cleopatra and about twenty others. Epic.

The two men are Lucius Veronus, a by the book Roman commander and Titus Pullo, a brawling drunk, also in Caesar's army. Brings to life the daily life in ancient Rome. Very authentic realization. The story was not designed to go for more than two seasons, and the producers didn't sell out.
