Here’s a funny anecdote from a discussion I read elsewhere about the classic western film Cheyenne Autumn: Kleanbore said: I'm told that Cheyenne Autumn is pretty good.. I have never seen it. It is based on a book by Marie Sandoz. Cheyenne Autumn is a cult classic on the Navajo Reservation, and plays every weekend in Page… because, first of all everyone knows that Navajo actors look and speak nothing like Cheyenne, but mostly because they told the Navajo actors to just say “something” when they are told to speak in the movie, and the actors said some very insulting things (in Navajo) In one of the scenes the General asks an interpreter to ask a scout about a recent raid, and the scout replies in Navajo to the interpreter that the General is an imbecile and has very small genitalia. Everyone in the theater know the funny lines (in Navajo) and repeats them, much like The Rocky Horror Picture Picture Show.
September 12Sep 12 Weapons was a fucking awesome movie with a blah title. Not unlike Edge of Tomorrow.
September 12Sep 12 Watched Working Man with the folks. Standard Statham movie. Entertaining for what it was.

Interesting comment about your perception of slowness. American story-telling has evolved (devolved?) in my lifetime. Can you pin down where the story dragged for you? Really curious and not looking for a fight.
September 15Sep 15 The Long Walk. Went with the crowd against my better judgment. I should've kept walking. Worst, most boring, cringe movie I've ever seen.

It’s hard to pinpoint and I’m positive it is more about my diminishing attention span than the actual movie making but it’s pretty consistent that movies from that time and before seem slow to me now. Even movies I saw as a kid, teen or young adult seem slower to me now than they did when I first saw them.
September 15Sep 15 I like watching movies from that era just for that reason. Reminds me of what life was like as a kid. Dog Day Afternoon is fantastic. Edited September 15Sep 15 by tbone_

September 20Sep 20 I’d love to hear some other interpretations of Red Rooms. I think I’ve mentioned this movie in this thread in years past but just watched it again and came away with a completely different take. This is an absolute must watch if you like intense thrillers and/or true crime.

September 22Sep 22 28 Years Later. What the fuck was that? Like 28 Weeks Later, kids fuck it all up. But what a piece of crap.
September 22Sep 22 Black bag, free on Amazon. Fassbender and Blanchett. Fun spy movie, twists and plans within plans.

What a bleak piece of shit for a coming of age movie. They shot the whole thing in Cincinnati in the winter so it just looks gray, brown, and shitty throughout the film. Ringwald starts the movie with a bad Kentucky accent, and later drops it. McCarthy plays exactly the same character as Pretty in Pink. Stiller is supposed to be the comic relief, but he’s just brutally unfunny throughout. It’s very early in his career and it’s apparent he has no idea what he’s doing. There’s really no story. McCarthy meets Ringwald, class and social conflict ensue, roll credits. That movie thoroughly sucked shit; zero redeeming qualities…

September 23Sep 23 Guy Ritchie is the best Director in the world. Fight me. I will fight you and then slow down and do that same effect in every movie for 20 years.

September 24Sep 24 Weapons - Good horror film. Being a dad with small kids makes some parts of it hit hard in the feels. Some jump scares, lots of creepy stuff and an intriguing plot that slowly unravels. The Materialists - eh, it was an ok drama. As the name implies it explores the shallowness of rich people and the sort of inhuman way they value relationships. The way the main character sets them up on dates via a high level matchmaking company is interesting, there are several scenes with her sizing up the ideal 'match' for someone and trying to set expectations in a gentle way. The absurdity of some of the clients requests is amusing, but feels very realistic. Dakota Johnson's conversations with other people is very revealing of how she views her clients, and overall she's just as bad about dehumanizing them as they are. Basically everyone is shitty, every relationship is a transaction, love is a product of narcissism and fades as soon as the benefits of the relationship do. Everything sucks! Hooray! Luckiest Man In America - It's entertaining, especially if you watched the Press Your Luck (No Whammy) show as a kid. A bit of nostalgia mixed with the fun of the game show. The movie takes a lot of liberties with the true story, and adds some unnecessary drama that didn't take place at all. Still a fun flick. The Naked Gun 2025 - second time watching it, still hilarious, highly recommend it for people who enjoy comedy. Honey Don't - it was OK. Not a terribly compelling story, but fans of Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza's "talent" should watch it, or at least a few scenes. It's a Cohen movie, so has great style, casting, sets, etc, but wasn't that interesting to me. Superman 2025 - loved it, it was the best Superman movie. I haven't ever really liked any of the old movies, but this one was great. I'm a big fan of James Gunn, and I love what he does. His ability to balance the action, comedy and story is so good for superhero movies. Love the actors in this, Lex Luthor was especially great. Highly recommend it to anyone who even remotely likes Superman.

September 25Sep 25 Just rewatched The Lighthouse. The Dafoe curse scene has to be one of the greatest acting scenes ever. He never blinks once. We’ve all been there tho - a feel like that anytime I’m in charge of dinner.
September 25Sep 25 Wind River. Hadn’t seen it in a while. Still great. I’ve decided that Clint Eastwood should cast Jeremy Renner for any of his westerns that he plans to make in the future before he kicks the bucket. We need more westerns. This one and Hell or High Water are up there with Hombre and Valdez…is coming for me. I miss Justified and Elmore Leonard. 😢
September 25Sep 25 I love the old 50’s and early 60’s Sci Fi movies. This is one of the best with great special effects for the time. Free on Tubi by the way.
September 27Sep 27 Watched the new Fantastic Four again. I still think it’s one of my favorite Marvel movies ever. Love the vibe. My wife (doesn’t like superhero movies) liked it as well. Also, Vanessa Kirby, who I never thought much about before this, is HOT in it. She looked GREAT.

That scene that shows what happens to the girl and her bf is tough. But, one of my favorite crime/thriller movies.
September 28Sep 28 Lake George on Hulu. Tarantino vibe with a lot of Boardwalk Empire cast. I recommend.

Sydney Sweeney as a stuttering waitress/aspiring country singer with a wardrobe that mostly hid her assets was a choice but I thought she was pretty good. Paul Walter Hauser especially and also Halsey were good as the other leads. Zahn McClarnon and Toby Huss were fun in small roles. There were some cool location shots too with New Mexico standing in for the Dakotas and Wyoming apparently. I am not trading 4 top-100 prospects for this fucking movie. First 75 or so minutes were cool, then that shit crashed harder than the Astros’ season. Only redeemable part of the ending was it meant the shit was over. 3.5/10, do not recommend.
October 9Oct 9 I don’t remember this from when I was a kid. It started out a bit like Dazed And Confused and then turned into Lord of the Flies.
October 9Oct 9 Finally got around to Dog Day Afternoon. Pacino was great, obviously, but I was a little disappointed that Cazale didn't get to do as much. It's a very good movie, but I wouldn't rate it as high as other 70s classics like the two Godfather films, Chinatown, etc.

October 12Oct 12 I'm a big fan of Argentine actor Ricardo Darin. I rewatched his film Truman for the 4th or 5th time last night. It's about a guy in Madrid who's got a short time left before cancer takes him and his best friend now living in Canada comes back to visit for a few days and say his goodbye. It's melancholic but also humorous and sweet. Got 99% on RT.
October 13Oct 13 The John Candy doc on Amazon Prime is outstanding. And a bit dusty at times. Dude was a national fucking treasure.
