Troop Zero on Amazon. MUCH better than I was expecting. The script and casting are spectacular. Mckenna Grace is going to be a huge star in 10 years.

Took a sick day this week and watched Greenbook (fantastic), the Favourite (good but a little quirky, and Emma Stone's tits were a bonus), and On The Basis of Sex (solid).

Yep, that is a good gd movie. I’m not crying you’re crying.

Joker. I really dislike Joaquin Phoenix as a person, but gotdam that man can act. Heard it was good but had no spoilers. It was better than I expected. DC hit this one out of the park.

Surprised by the creativity and animation in Whitesnake. Not a bad flick. Tolkien was outstanding. Amazing story - well told. Where'd You Go, Bernadette - 7.5stars, Rocketman had its moments, Alita, Battle Angel excellent. Crown Vic, worth the time. Yesterday (Beatles fantasy) brought back some memories. Tell it to the Bees - chickflick with good acting, good story - Holliday Grainger beautiful sexy.

The Gene Generation - Stylish action flick set in post-apocalyptic future where DNA editing went wrong.  Protagonist wears sexy outfits.  This would normally be in my wheelhouse, but it was so bad - poor acting, production values, etc. - that I fell asleep, woke up and turned it off.  Don't waste your time on this one.

First Reformed. Speechless. Wasn’t crazy about the ending but 95% of it was definitely one of the better films of the decade.

This was a thought-provoking movie for sure.  Ethan Hawke is great as the pastor, and Cedric the Entertainer plays a solid serious role.

Outlander - human space alien crashes space ship in Norway in 709AD.  Beastly space alien hitchhiker also survives the crash.  Human space alien works with local Viking village to kill beast space alien.  Low budget sci fi, but decent enough acting and production values.  I was entertained.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Well, take that off the bucket list.

Another ending I didn't expect.

Snow day. Staying home and thought I'd red up a bit. Had this on the dvr. The house is the same one used as the front for The Beverly Hillbillies. I think it sold recently for about $150,000,000.

Midsommar (2019)

You white people.

You're freaks.

MIDS_Murals_2.png

I thought the tone of this improved on the somewhat more focused tone of Heredity.  I really like this guy's (Ari Aster) stuff, as well as that of Robert Eggers (The Witch, the Lighthouse (in the queue)).

Jackie Brown. Just keeps getting better after every watch. Tarantino's most subtle film. It's awesome to see DeNiro in a taciturn role without terrible CGI.

Obligatory, God Bless Elmore Leonard.

The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) - This month's edition of the AGFA Secret Screening.  Lots of tits, asses, people getting killed with a giant drill, and thinly veiled feminist messages.  I was entertained.

Just watched Nighthawks with Sylvester Stallone, Rutger Hauer, Billie Dee Williams and freakin Jamie Gillis.  Who knew?  Some other things I didn't know:

Gillis was born into a Jewish family as Jamey Ira Gurman[1] in New York City and graduated from Columbia University. His parents named him Jamie after the Tyrone Power character in the film The Black Swan (1942), and he took the name Gillis from the girlfriend he was living with when he made his first films.[2] While supporting himself driving a cab, he answered an ad in The Village Voice.[3]

blah, blah, lots o' porn blah

Gillis died on February 19, 2010 in New York City from melanoma, which was diagnosed four or five months earlier.[11] In an audio interview given to The Rialto Report shortly before his death, Gillis stated that in the 1970s he had wanted his ashes to be scattered in Times Square, but years later he changed his mind, stating that the "cleaned up" Times Square that emerged in the 1990s would contaminate his ashes.[2]

Watched True Romance last night for the first time in probably 15 years. It was always one of my favorites. Holds up a bit better than most of its peers but the Sicilian monologue by Hopper is a bit awkward nowadays. I was a bit surprised at how little plot is in the movie. My memory of it was there was a lot more going on than what was actually the case.

Watched Joker on my flight yesterday.

Damn.  Phoenix was pretty incredible and worthy of all his awards.

Even in 2D, this is magnificent. Laughable it wasn’t eligible for any Academy Awards.

Not a movie, but just watched the live episode of The Conners and it was great. Goodman's still got it. Everyone's timing was perfect, no flubbed lines and they worked some live election results into the story. Well done.

Just watched it too.. was impressed how smooth it was.. you could tell it was different but not in a big way. I think I want to watch it again to key in on a few things in more detail

Anyways.. after the oscars, finally watched The Two Popes.. I guess I was oblivious to all this happening in real life so found it extremely interesting. Hopkins always kills any of his roles.

I'm sure if you picked at it, you could find some cue and production errors when scenes started. But I was impressed with the professionalism. These were serious actors acting. Nobody halfassed it. Don't know if they were instructed to, but the audience was mostly silent which seemed odd. Maybe I'm used to forced laughs on Take 3.

I hope they do it again.

Jojo Rabbit. It was fantastic.

Just caught it on a plane and it was better than expected. Question; was Sam Rockwell’s character covering for the Jew because he was clearly gay with Theon? The whole Elton John costume thing, right?

Just saw In The Heat of the Night at the theater. That movie kicks all kinds of ass.

The Bravados.  Gregory Peck in his prime, tracking four bad guys and out for revenge in the old West and old Mexico.  Lee Van Cleef, Stephen Boyd, a youngish Joan Collins, and a raft of actors with familiar faces.  Filmed on location in Mexico for the most part.  Rich scenes, colors and vistas, as well cinematographed as anything I've ever seen, and brutal without being gratuitously graphic (because it was 1958).  Direction by Henry King, solid.  A refreshing, atypical story line.

I'm not sure about that. I viewed it more as an instance where the utter absurdity of the last days of the Nazi regime became apparent to everyone. And in that his behavior was an attempt to salvage one bit of his humanity. Now, the Elton John costume, I have no idea!

That's a great one.

Saw The Lodge last night. Movie critics love tagging any horror movie that isn't Saw torture porn or a Paranormal Activity jump scare fest as "the next great horror movie.". The Lodge isn't The Next Great Horror Movie but it's thoroughly adequate.

Ditto.  All kinds of great, not even counting marble tombstone girl.

Sheriff: "I got the motive, which is money and the body, which is dead."

Watched The Gentlemen late this afternoon.  Whiplash dialogue and well done by a fine ensemble of actors. Original Fargoesque dumbassery by various punks and thugs poorly controlled by their bosses a la Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels.

The Dark Knight. It get less coherent with every viewing. It’s really a disjointed mess. Dialogue is bad. Acting is bad outside of Ledger.

Fat drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, Son.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Gets pretty darned dusty. Tom Hanks is a gotdam national treasure. Matthew Rhys ain't bad either.

Harley Quinn (Birds of Prey) - I wanted to love it. Margot holds it together - like a magnet.

I just watched Memories of Murder on AngryDragons recommendation and it was beautiful.

Characters are dynamic and we'll developed. It is funny and heartbreaking. It defies your expectations by leading you to think it is one kind of movie but becomes another.

Hot take and agree 100%.

Bale's Batman voice just makes me laugh.

Beautiful Boy. A film about having an addict child. It is a difficult film to watch as my close friend fell into addiction at that age and many of the behaviors I saw as well.

Miami Vice (2006).  It's Heat: Miami, but still a fine movie.  I'll fight everyone who disagrees.

MV is very underrated.

I did a Brody twofer

Manhattan Night 2016 -  Meh, it was decent.  Detective type movie (although he's a news paper columnist).  Twists and turns kept me intrigued, but mostly I was kept in it by the fucking blonde that plays the female lead

Then watched King Kong 2005

It was better than I remembered.  Damn the action scenes (on Skull Island) were way better than I thought they were at first viewing.  Long fucking movie though.

Spoiler

ImprobableMasculineBats-size_restricted.

My kid made me take her to see Sonic the Hedgehog.  Really not that terrible.  Probably one of the better video game movies.
