July 6, 20205 yr John Wick 3. Decent. Love the little details of the universe like no one reacting to a dead body in public. Just another day on murder planet.
July 6, 20205 yr Made the wife watch a few oldies the past week or so. All The President's Men - She was into it and not playing on her phone the entire movie. I was proud and impressed. Barefoot in the Park - I was thinking of The Out-of-towners when I suggested this one, but I figured what the hell. I don't think I'd ever actually seen it. It kind of sucked. Would not recommend. The Odd Couple - Lemmon & Mathau are so great in this. I let her pick the late night getting too drunk for something deep movie on Saturday. She picked St Elmo's Fire and since I hadn't seen it in a long time, I figured what the hell. What the hell? That movies sucks donkey balls hard. It probably hit Stillwater OK when I was about 6 months away from graduating college, so I see why I related to it 35 years ago. Now, I wanted to punch almost every lead character in the face. A raging asshole, a man child who is intent on destroying his life and anyone in his life, a coke head who's about a month away from turning tricks to support her habit, and an obsessed stalker who seems a bit unstable. Fucking hell.

When you think of rock and roll do you think about Elvis or Chuck Berry? Hell no you think about Rob Lowe on the saxophone
July 7, 20205 yr Watched The Defiant Ones last night on TCM. Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier from 1958. Nominated for multiple Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor for both Curtis and Poitier and won for Best B&W Cinematography and Original Script. A great cast all of the way around and even has Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer in it. Terrific movie.

Curtis is batting above his average, Poitier hitting on all 8, script timing (racial strife, yo) and a powerful message. Bang for your buck, this film is hard to beat for it's era. If you like this one, check out Lilies of the Field. My personal Poitier favorite.

I remember buying that 45 RPM of Amen by The Impressions back in 1964 when it was on the charts.

July 9, 20205 yr In anticipation of Tom Hanks Greyhound, I watched Das Boot Directors Cut last night. Holy shit, had no idea going in that it was 3.5 hours long. Don't know how much fluff (French Plantation) was added since I had not watched the movie in many years. Googling submarine movies, this one was #1 on many lists.

July 10, 20205 yr This was on Sony Movie Channel last night. Always loved this movie and one of the funniest scenes ever....

Boobs and F-bombs. I was only 15 but I knew I was hooked on the notion of subscription TV after that day.
July 10, 20205 yr Great movie. Kurt Russell's best role only after The Computer who wore tennis shoes.

July 11, 20205 yr Kicking and Screaming. A very forgettable movie, but Perrey Reeves, aka Ari’s wife, at 25. My goodness.

July 11, 20205 yr Blow the man down It was fine. Just kind of fizzled. Should've/Couldve been much better.
July 12, 20205 yr Terminator 6 Dark Fate-JESUS James Cameron, you should have stopped at 2. What a stinker.
July 13, 20205 yr Terminator 6 Dark Fate-JESUS James Cameron, you should have stopped at 2. What a stinker.I had high hopes for this one.
July 13, 20205 yr A Bridge Too Far should have been better with that cast. It’s available on Hulu. Amazing list of stars: Robert Redford Michael Caine Anthony Hopkins Sean Connery Gene Hackman James Caan Laurence Olivier Edited July 13, 20205 yr by billfromlaketravis
July 13, 20205 yr Train to Busan earlier today. Very solid. The CEO needed a cunt punch in the worst way. Baseball groupie and pregnant chick would both get it. Just introduced my 13yo to Alien. She enjoyed it.

July 13, 20205 yr Saw The Man Who Killed Don Quixote the other night. It's an odd film and not totally in the same way that most Terry Gilliam films are. The movie starts a bit rough IMO while setting the background for the main action to come. Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) looked ridiculous at times, but Jonathan Pryce gave an outstanding performance. It was slightly better than average - 3 stars I guess. Watchable, but not something I'd recommend anyone go out of their way for unless they are just in the mood for something a bit different.
July 13, 20205 yr I usually have to watch Gilliam films 3 times before I enjoy them completely. RIP, Terry.
July 14, 20205 yr Twelve Monkeys is my favorite, but Brazil is fantastic. Time Bandits is always a fun watch too.
July 16, 20205 yr Watched Saving Mr Banks earlier. Actually a really good show about the making of and deliberations between P.L. Travers and Walt Disney for Mary Poppins. Was super cool
July 17, 20205 yr Alien: Covenant. Tedious. It's only a matter of time until Disney tries to breathe life back into this franchise and fucks it up even more. They should have stopped at 3.
July 17, 20205 yr Black Rain. Pure late 80s NYC/Japan sleaze. Andy Garcia saying ‘babe’ a lot. Gregg Allman power ballad. Amazon Prime
July 17, 20205 yr Man finally saw The Last Movie Star. Very good movie. Had me crying like a baby at the end. Loved the way they had old Burt (Vic) and young Burt from earlier movies together in scenes a couple of times.
July 17, 20205 yr Color Out of Space (2019) It got good reviews. I think I'm just not really into the genre (I think I'm too lazy a viewer), and Cage wasn't as out there as I wanted him to be. It feels like quality - I just wasn't into it.
July 17, 20205 yr I watched Blood of Heroes the other day. (on Tubi) It was complete bomb back in '89. I enjoyed it then, and still do, but can see why it was a bomb. It has all the trappings of Mad Max, but is basically just a simple little sports movie. The action is subpar, but the cast is impressive, albeit difficult to spell: Rutger Hauer, Delroy Lindo, Joan Chen, Vincent D'Onofrio. Written and directed by David Peoples, who wrote screenplays for Blade Runner, Ladyhawke, Unforgiven, and 12 Monkeys. Between the cast and dialogue, the characters are more natural and believable than you get out of a typical 80's post-apocalyptic flick. Not a bad way to kill a couple of hours on a rainy day. It's basically Bull Durham if Nuke was a hot Asian chick and everyone played in bondage gear.
July 17, 20205 yr Watched “The Running Man” yesterday. After about the first 15 minutes (arrest and then prison break)- it actually holds up pretty well. It’s on Amazon Prime right now.

Helps that her Mom is Leah Thompson. Also - the post credits with Bill Murray was great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Saw Zombieland 2 a couple of months ago. Inspired me to go back and rewatch Everybody Wants Some to see some more Zoey.
July 18, 20205 yr I'm watching The Shootist right now. Goodness, I miss The Duke. I wish he had one more movie in him.
July 18, 20205 yr Just watched Hamilton. For someone that doesn't listen to hip-hop it was a struggle at first, but I began to get accustomed. I get the hype. This was very, very well written and the performances were spectacular. King George and Jefferson were my favorite supporting characters.

July 18, 20205 yr Early AIDS-era queers roll into a gritty Welsh town to support striking miners...and end up getting a lot more than they bargained for out of the deal. Edited July 18, 20205 yr by ClubWhatever
July 19, 20205 yr The Big Chill. Imagine the St Elmos Fire crew 15 years later with real writers and a director.
