July 31, 20187 yr Flight of the Intruder - I know a lot of people crap all over this film, but I love it. May be my favorite Willem Dafoe role. Definitely my favorite Brad Johnson role. Devil 505 signing off. Alpha. Mike. Foxtrot.
July 31, 20187 yr Watched Fahrenheit 451 reboot. Was bracing for a lot of philosophy and predictable plot...and while that was the case, it was very up-to-date. There was an excellent scene in the middle, where Michael Shannon explains why books are being burned which was surprisingly relevant. (Offended groups calling for bans of specific books at first--racially and gender insensitive works...which snowballed into 'lets just get rid of them all, since people are getting upset and thinking hurts our feelings') So, not sure its a movie I'd recommend, but that scene was very effective.

I would for sure recommend for the acting though. The overall story between the brothers and dad is great. The fight sequences and the MMA based plot is ridiculous though. Not even coming from a MMA fan who I imagine finds it unwatchable. Even the nonchalant sports fan can see right through it.
August 1, 20187 yr Spider-Man Homecoming. Been catching up on the MCU movies as I fell behind. Saw Thor 3 and Black Panther already, now just Avengers 3 and Ant-Man/Wasp to go.
August 1, 20187 yr Tourist Trap - Chuck Connors owns an abandoned wax museum. Some young people have car trouble and wander in. Most of them get killed.
August 1, 20187 yr Two of my all-time favorite movies: Friday the 13th part 8 - Jason Takes Manhattan... A Nightmare On Elm Street part 3 - Dream Warriors...
August 1, 20187 yr The Masque of the Red Death by Roger Corman. Pretty lame acting. The sets were marvelous but Vincent Price didn't feel like trying.

Bell, Book, and Candle with James Stewart preceded by starring with Stewart in Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo. Two movies for which I associate Kim Novak (and women in general) with the color green.
August 5, 20187 yr Where Eagles Dare - Classic war/spy flick. Probably my favorite Richard Burton film. Eastwood was on the way up. The only real drawback is the horrible British soundtrack.

August 5, 20187 yr Tully (2018). For those of you guys who haven't had kids, 1st hour is worth watching. Movie as a whole didn't cut it but the "what a mom goes through" scenes were pretty horrifying. May cause you to not have kids.

August 6, 20187 yr Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - Good little film. Interesting story and a talented cast. My only complaint was the ending sucked. Did they give up or just get tired of writing a good script?

August 6, 20187 yr Animal Crackers. The Marx Brothers are wasted on me. A few laughs here and there but otherwise a chore to sit through.

Did they give up or just get tired of writing a good script? I think it was meant to be vague. I also watched it Saturday night - love that HBO Film of the Week. Ending to me basically was - anger will always beget more anger, but at least you can try to do something good with it.
August 6, 20187 yr Watched Interstellar for the 2nd or 3rd time. Really enjoy the movie for what it is, but also enjoy the theoretical physics it is based on. Very intriguing stuff.
August 6, 20187 yr Kingsman Golden Circle. Total turd of a movie, and the 1st one was overrated. For a slick, fun, brainless british-spy-thriller The Man from UNCLE is superior
August 7, 20187 yr Spectre. At 1st glance it looks like a weak companion to Skyfall. Kinda sucky from the train scene, through the desert lair and back to London. Then it gets good again. The actors playing Bond, Moneypenny, M and Q have great chemistry and it turns into a great ensemble movie when Bond gets back to London. No way Mendes can out-Skyfall his 1st effort. So take it another direction. Make it an ensemble movie from start to finish. No Bond movie has done that.

The heroism was downplayed for political reasons. Very, very solid movie. + rep for this. I had never heard of this incident. Read up a little bit on it before watching the movie. Terrific little film.
August 7, 20187 yr Haven't actually watched this one in a while, but the Siege of Firebase Gloria is a pretty good little Vietnam War movie with R. Lee Ermey doing his thing.
August 7, 20187 yr The Full Monty Had never seen it, but it was on HBO so figured I'd give it a watch. It moved slow but there were a few chuckles. I had to turn on cc because I cant understand british people.
August 7, 20187 yr Helvetica (2007). I don't think I've every enjoyed a documentary as much as this. Just perfect. A topic that you don't think would interest you that just pulls you in and holds you hostage.

August 9, 20187 yr Godfather II. Again. Hard to believe based on the other thread that there are people over say 25, especially men, who haven't seen it.

August 10, 20187 yr The Meg. It is as big and loud and dumb as one would hope a movie about a giant shark eating stuff would be.
August 10, 20187 yr Brimstone. Pretty slow, pretty depressing, but overall a good movie. Guy Pearce plays an awesome bad guy

August 11, 20187 yr From time to time, I like to watch a movie that I know nothing about. Sometimes I'm disappointed, sometimes not. This morning I watched The Book of Henry - was not disappointed.
August 11, 20187 yr The Meg. It is as big and loud and dumb as one would hope a movie about a giant shark eating stuff would be. Yup. Big, dumb, and loud. But I had some good popcorn, so there's that.
August 11, 20187 yr My kids made me take them to Slenderman. They liked it.....I thought it was worthless. Edited August 11, 20187 yr by former alkie

August 12, 20187 yr Murder on the Orient Express was a perfectly fine Sat night HBO popcorn movie. I would not have paid $12 to see it at a theater though
August 12, 20187 yr Itonya was solid. One weird thing. They made Margo actually less attractive than the real Tonya. Weird.
