November 10Nov 10 Looking at the final 3 weeks of SEC action there are tons of scenarios that can play out and as of Today only Alabama and Georgia control their own destiny. Remaining Schedule with favorites highlighted If all the favorites win their remaining games Alabama plays Georgia in the SECCG. Spoiler If Texas and all other favorites win out. Texas loses the tiebreaker but gets into the playoffs around the 5-6 seed IMO. Spoiler For Texas to get in with the 4 way Tiebreaker they need to win out and have Vandy to win out against Kentucky and Tennessee. Spoiler If Texas wins out and Oklahoma beats Alabama this weekend Texas finishes 1st in the standings then faces Bama in the SECCG. Spoiler The only way Texas gets in with a Bama loss to Auburn in the Iron bowl, Florida would have to beat Ole Miss this weekend. In this scenario Texas gets in regardless of Florida/Tennessee next weekend Spoiler Reference: https://bball.notnothing.net/sec.php?sport=fb Edited November 10Nov 10 by Sir Ulrich
November 10Nov 10 So if I'm understanding this correctly, if aggie loses to us they have almost no chance of getting to the SEC championship game?

November 10Nov 10 so wait, A&M is having their best year in nearly 100 years and Texas can still keep them out of the SECX3 championship game? I get they are in the playoffs but I could see them getting bounced by the second round easily if not the first. that would be FUCKING amazing.

This and a few variations of this would still work. Edited November 10Nov 10 by Bevo14

How does 7-1 UGA pass them? his assumptions include a Texas win over A&M. knowing they will shit the bed against us, no they don't control their own destiny.

That’s not what “controlling your own destiny” means though, especially since in some of those important games being a favorite is slightly better than a coin flip (like UGA vs Tex). And could change based on things like key injuries.
November 10Nov 10 Just thought I’d point out there are chaos scenarios where we beat UGA and A&M but lose to Arky….and A&M and ou end up in the sec championship *shudder* (Florida or Miss St beat Ole Miss; bama loses to ou and Auburn)
November 10Nov 10 I think a trend will start to emerge whereby you want to make the playoffs without going to a conference championship game .... One less game for injuries (Carson Beck) and fatigue.... yes, maybe you punch your ticket to first round bye, but seems like that didn't help too much last year.

I am willing to bet coaches and players want to win a conference title and not backdoor their way in.

They do now because we are 1 year into expanded playoffs. For every other year of existence winning the conference was a huge deal. As you stack more scenarios where the CC game is meaningless (the winner/loser are both in regardless) it will become an afterthought no different than being division champ in the NFL.
November 10Nov 10 6 seed? Regardless of SECCG, if we lose to Georgia but beat aggy the committee has to seed us higher: 11 - 1 with a loss on their only hard road game test of the year vs. 9-3 with losses @Gerogia, @Florida, @OSU (#1) Our better wins (against teams that are actually ranked and no ND doesn't count in that math, they lost to Miami) should put us higher.

Yes on the conference title, but BS on the "backdoor" characterization. There's nothing backdoor about it. The bracket is designed for several non conference winners.
November 10Nov 10 Conference title games will all be gone in a few years replaced by round 1 of the playoffs - College football will just continue its evolution
