We had a planned move to assisted living next week due to my 85 year old dad's failing eyesight and mobility (diabetic) and my 83 year old mom's severe dementia.  I was going to try to line up dog walkers for their dog but then last week my dad fell and broke 4 ribs and 4 spinous processes; now he is in rehab and it looks like he's going to be OK, he's a tough old fart, but there is no way they can keep the dog now as I have no confidence that the walkers will show up 24/7/365.  I can't take the dog because one of mine is dog aggressive.  So I am having to rehome it on short notice.  It's a 13 year old female terrier/chihuahua mix, weighs 22 pounds but should weigh closer to 20, chipped, housebroken, shots, etc.  It has lived with other dogs and cats, children might not be such a good idea. It was crate trained at one time but it's been awhile  It is a little yappy but hey it's a terrier. It is used to just sitting on the couch all day next to my mom so an elderly person looking for a companion animal would be a good choice.

The dog is in Houston, I'm in Austin and I can pick it up and deliver with proper vetting (pun intended).  Ideally it would go to a new home but I am open to anything other than a no-kill shelter.  So if any of y'all can help, please DM me.  Thanks.

Oh yeah and if this makes a difference I an a female and I guarantee that any of y'all olds would, and with extreme prejudice.

Y'all motherfuckers.  There is a picture out there somewhere on this board, go and find it. Or ask Troph, she has see me.  My mom is now in the hospital because she was threatening her caregivers with a knife and tearing up photos in the bedroom and to bring it around on topic she wrapped a cord around the dog's neck and was going to kill it.  It's a cluster and I need to get rid of the goddam dog in the next 12 days, otherwise it will be the SPCA of Houston's rehoming program.  Go.

@M12BH - sorry to hear about your mom.

I don't know anything about the 632 Canine Rescue, but it might be an avenue to rehome the dog.

This looks great.  Jerry gets the noods because he actually helped me out.  Full confession, I hate that fucking dog and it hates me and I otherwise love all animals unconditionally.  But it's my parents' dog and I can't boot it out the window like I want to.  I can't take it because my lab/shepherd mix, who adores all people and dogs, hates this dog too.  It doesn't do great in a shelter environment which is why a shelter is a last resort.

I wish.  My dog-aggressive dog (not the shepherd/lab) is 11 years old and wants to fight every dog he sees, he has been that way since 18 months.  We had him in training for years and he is marginally better but I wouldn't trust him for a second around another dog.  On the other hand, that might be the best way to get rid of my parents' yappy piece of shit.

So if anyone gives a shit it ended up in the SPCA small dog rehoming program.  Where it apparently got snapped up immediately.  Good for it and good for me.

Every chihuahua I've ever encountered hates the absolute living fuck out of every human being except the ones they live with. And not always even liked all of those. So I'll pass.  But Clark has the solution to that problem as posted above

My daughter's chihuahua absolutely loves every human being she has met. Her favorite activity at the dog park is to make the rounds until every person there has let her sit in their lap.  I have also never heard my daughter's chihuahua bark.
