November 18Nov 18 Author dead last in the country in eFG% and 3p shooting, third to last in 2p shooting, and they get their shots blocked 17% of the time. second to last in the country at forcing turnovers, third to last in allowing offensive rebounds. lotta people defended this schedule before the season. mike of them seem to be watching the games or talking about them now. imagine that. i mean what are we doing.

November 19Nov 19 How was that not an and 1 for Swain? The defender clearly made contact with his lower arm.

Miller stepped out on the court flipped out on the ref. I’m thrilled we have that kid. He’s gonna be a good one.
November 19Nov 19 fuck ya, Heide giving me some hope that we might have a guy on the team that can shoot it after all.

November 19Nov 19 I’ve noticed driving home after games that an assistant coach is the one talking to Craig Way for the radio postgame. I don’t ever remember assistants doing that under Barnes, Smart, Beard, or Terry. Anybody know why?
November 19Nov 19 I’ve seen more actual teaching from Miller in five games than I saw from Terry in three years.
November 19Nov 19 Author pope struggling vs garbage teams. needs to lose his starting spot soon if things don’t improve.
November 19Nov 19 I like this team better playing small with Swain and Heide at the forward spots. That gives us so much more scoring and versatility than with Codie at the 4 and Swain at the 3. Codie didn’t play at all today. I think he will be a very key player next year, but this year I would rather see more minutes given to Vok, Traore and Swain. And probably Heide and Duru.

Our guy Lowell said that Codie injured his groin in practice and that was why he didn't play.
November 19Nov 19 We need Heide's 3 point shooting, hopefully we keep him in starting rotation. Why is it so hard for us to find 3 point shooters, almost every year we seem to have this deficiency. Pope likes to clank it from 35 feet.
November 19Nov 19 These games are great for tinkering with lineups. Step up in competition with Arizona State and Virginia before another elite test against UConn. Az St has seen Gonzaga, Virginia has played nobody. Fun to have size again. Feels like a tourney team.
November 19Nov 19 The next few pre-conference games are critical for Mark. He has been inconsistent and looks lost, sloppy, and uninterested too much for my liking for 5th year player, despite the new system. If he doesn't find his groove soon, Wilcher and the Weav will and should feast on more of his minutes.

November 19Nov 19 Agree on the lineup tinkering. This team has 10 players that are pretty much interchangeable outside of Swain and Mark (who should be in any starting / closing lineup). Those two can also play multiple positions, so there are a ton of lineups that could work. For me, Pope is the player who has been the most inconsistent and sloppy. Dude is averaging 0.271 FG% and 0.667 FT%. Horrid given this level of competition. And if he isn't shooting well, Pope doesn't add much else as he isn't a good distributor or defender. Wilcher on the other hand has been getting more comfortable, is more efficient and well rounded than Pope. He has much more upside IMO, plus he is just a junior and his development will pay longer term dividends. I would bump Pope down to ~18 minutes and bump Wilcher up to 26 and move him into the starting lineup. Last night was a career high for Cam Heide at 20 points. Good to see what he is capable of with the extra minutes. A starting lineup of Wilcher (6'4), Mark (6'5), Heide (6'7) and Swain (6'7) gives a good amount of size and the ability to play position-less basketball on offense and switching defense on the other end. (plus Vok / Traore at center). Or against some teams you could bring in Duru (6'8) as the 5th player in the lineup. I would love to see what Chris Beard would have done with all these forwards.
