December 5Dec 5 need to see the playoff winners to assess, but at first blush there are no groups of death, and at least 1 group of life (belgium's group)

December 5Dec 5 Argentina has the easiest group. Then Germany and Brazil. They can trip into the second round. So what is the group of Death? I would not want to be France. Or England.

Bump because of teams left combos i believe 50 minutes ago, Captain Ron said: That's what I don't get - Norway could be in Group K I think - unless Pot 4 muddies it all up. So it took me a while to find it - but I did, from reddit: Uzbekistan could not be put in Group I with France and Senegal because the winner of the Bolivian-Suriname-Iraq playoff must end up in a group with 2 European teams and one African team. The only possibility for such a group was to put Norway in group I. So yeah, it was a Pot 4 muddle.

Anyway, this is how I think it shakes out for the US in the Knockout Stage provided they finish first or second in Group D or are one of the top eight 3rd place finishers: 1. If USA wins Group D Will play 3rd place in: Group B (Canada, UEFA Path A winner, Qatar, Switzerland) Group E (Germany, Curacao, Ivory Coast, Ecuador) Group F (Netherlands, Japan, UEFA Path B winner, Tunisia) Group I (France, Senegal, IC Path 2 winner, Norway) Group J (Argentina, Algeria, Austria, Jordan) 2. If USA places 2nd in Group D Will play Runner-Up in: Group G (Belgium, Egypt, Iran, New Zealand) 3. If USA places 3rd in Group D (and is one of the top eight 3rd-place teams): Will play Winner in: Group K (Portugal, IC Path 1 winner, Uzbekistan, Colombia) Group I (France, Senegal, IC Path 2 winner, Norway) Group E (Germany, Curacao, Ivory Coast, Ecuador Edited December 5Dec 5 by C-Man

December 6Dec 6 I am at the point that I really question whether anyone on Surly actually has a job. It is amazing how much activity this site gets during working hours.
December 6Dec 6 Seems like L is clearly group of death but perhaps Ghana isn’t any good anymore. If Panama gets the right ref (not a UEFA ref) they can beat all three of those teams by CONCACAFing it up. Hopefully Turkey isn’t the team coming out of the playoff.

December 7Dec 7 Every bar owner in Seattle has been sobbing nonstop since the draw: Qatar, Egypt x2, Iran... possibly Bosnia. Aussies will do their best to help out, but it's a tall ask even for them. Perhaps Italy or Northern Ireland will win the playoff and give the poor pubs some hope.

It's not terribly challenging to run into the rainbow anywhere and everywhere in the area, and Pride Week is a pretty big deal, parade and festival and all. That draw is pretty perfect for this, though. 😂 Edited December 8Dec 8 by flatdawgs clarified match is during Pride Week, just to warn any Qataris on the board
December 12Dec 12 I've circled Japan v. Play-In B on June 25 as the game in Arlington that I think will have the cheapest tickets. Game is at 6pm, USA plays later at 9pm. What should my plan for tickets be? Just wait til the game gets closer and buy off the FIFA resale site? Or something else?

Rest of the world had to abide by Qatari rules of no alcohol at the last World Cup, think these two nations can handle a few cock popsicles and booty shorts for a couple of matches.
December 12Dec 12 Man, our summer schedule sucks (I mean, not to complain about these things, they'll be a blast). Wedding in new england weekend of June 13, graduation in scotland the weekend of the 26th. So... We could see Norway on Tuesday June 16th in Boston (we could just stay over a couple of days in Boston after the wedding) v. Bolivia/Suriname/Iraq. We have Norwegian friends, could be cool to see them play. Or, we could hop down and do a weekend in Monterrey, and see Tunisia v. Japan on the 20th. No connection to either team, but Monterrey's stadium is beautiful, and my wife has never been to Monterrey (shit, I haven't been in 40 years). I mean, presuming we get any tickets to any of them.

And yeah, the campus totally looks like Hogwarts. But the crowd is much more normal at U of G than St Andrews, and Glasgow is a real city with a great vibe. But yep, the price compared to American private unis he was considering made it a no-brainer economically. And now we own a home in Scotland.
