One of my more eclectic interests is the Age of Sail.  I've read Utt's really excellent history of the naval War of 1812 (Ships of Oak, Guns of Iron), and I've made it all the way through the Aubrey-Maturin series.  But I really feel incomplete without having read a biography of the greatest figure of the age--Nelson.  And I can't really find a biography out there that is particularly well rated.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

No books but if you are unaware The Rest is History pod has done fantastic work on Nelson.  Just finished up with another series of episodes.

Can’t help, but you might find this link interesting:

When my Dad was stationed at Fort Brooke (on the grounds of Castillo San Felipe del Morro) in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico during the early 1950s, we kids explored the 16th-18th century Spanish fortifications allthe time.
In the neighboring fort of San Cristobal there were some creepy dungeon chambers that had centuries old drawings & scratched etchings on the walls that fascinated me.
The colorful Hollywood pirate movies that were shown at the post theater were especially enjoyable since we were living in the middle of where it all happened in real life.

I was actually thrilled to discover the above website link today, because those sailing ship drawings on the dungeon walls are the very same ones I saw firsthand when we played pirates in those tunnels without supervision 71+ years ago.

And this is what I ran around with while playing pirates with my buds…
