Friday - Bobby

Spoiler

Friday

By Bobby Burton

Approximately 24 seniors will walk later today in DKR, their final home game as Longhorns.

While all of them have been party to the resurgence of the Texas football program in their careers, a few of them have played major roles and deserve to be singled out further.

OL DJ Campbell - a three-year starter. Picked Texas and Steve Sarkisian over Oklahoma signaling a change in DFW recruiting four years ago.

OL Cole Hutson - a two-year starter and key back-up his other two seasons, Hutson has been a reliable mainstay of the OL his entire career.

DE Ethan Burke - a multi-year starter with multiple memorable plays, including one a year ago this week. If he has another one today, he will go down as an Aggie killer.

LB Trey Moore - the lone multi-year transfer on this list, Moore has been a mainstay on the defense since he first arrived on campus.

S Michael Taaffe - his reach far exceeded his grasp. The former walk-on became not only a fixture in the secondary but an emotional leader for this team.

**

The Aggies are 2.5 point favorites.

The Aggies are 11-0 and ranked no. 3 in the country.

They expect to win.

Meanwhile, the Longhorns have lost three games this year, one almost inexplicably to Florida.

The Horns were also trounced in Athens by Georgia earlier this month.

Yet Texas is playing a better brand of ball of late - at least on offense.

Arch Manning is averaging more than 300 yards passing in the last four games.

The Texss defense? Not so much.

If the Texas defense can stand up, force the Aggies to feel pressure and make mistakes, this could be one of the better Longhorn-Aggie contests we’ll see.

It has that potential.

**

For those of you going to the game, I have only one request.

Yell at the top of your lungs for those not able to be there. 😉

In all seriousness, crowd noise needs to be a factor in the outcome.

**

I’m sticking with my prediction from earlier in the week.

Texas 31 - A&M 28

Hook’Em!

On Anthony Hill Jr. (Thursday 9:30 pm) - C.J. Vogel

"Hill remains pretty banged up, and it would not come as a surprise if he was a game-time scratch...

We will see come Friday evening, but I’m not entirely optimistic currently."

Spoiler

On Anthony Hill Jr. (Thursday 9:30 pm)

By CJ Vogel

If Anthony Hill Jr plays on Friday, it’s because he desperately wants to beat Texas A&M.

Hill was listed as QUESTIONABLE once again, I am hearing he is not a true 50/50 to play. Hill remains pretty banged up, and it would not come as a surprise if he was a game-time scratch.

Texas is going to heavily rely on Liona Lefau and Trey Moore until Ty’Anthony Smith returns in the 3rd quarter.

We will see come Friday evening, but I’m not entirely optimistic currently.

I know the young ones and some of the misguided olds don’t want this rivalry on the schedule, but god damn this scene on Thanksgiving or the day after is exactly what Thanksgiving in Texas is supposed be about.  I’m quite pleased with the increased enjoyment of my Thanksgiving now in year two of this restart. This is how Thanksgiving is supposed to be.

Summary, as usual, aggy is full of shit.

Exactly. REAL military schools have always been stronger in sports during war years. Not weaker. Stupid stolen valor aggy. As usual.

Eric Nahlin: Latest on Anthony Hill's status for the Texas A&M game

Quote

Texas linebacker Anthony Hill has been listed as questionable all week for the No. 16 Texas Longhorns’ matchup with the No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies. Will he suit up and play in the Lone Star Showdown? Hill, who has been dealing with a boxer’s fracture and other undisclosed ailments that have kept him out of action since the Georgia game, is not expected to play on Friday versus the Aggies.

Hill could be listed as a game-time decision on the SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report that’s released 90 minutes before kickoff, but Inside Texas does not believe Hill will be able to go. Expect to see steady doses of Trey Moore, Liona Lefau, and possibly Elijah “Bo” Barnes in the first half versus the Aggies. Ty’Anthony Smith will not be available until the second half after a targeting penalty in the Arkansas game.

This season, Hill has 69 tackles with 7.0 for loss plus 4.0 sacks, two interceptions, one pass defended, one fumble recovery, and three forced fumbles.

Without hill it’s going to be painful   Aside from the 11 yard cushions any pressure is gonna have Reed running for days. Gonna need a spy to flatten that 140lb midget

Furk...

I has sads

At least arch has been balling out and sark has generally run an offense that arch can drive down the field.

I think arch gotta ball and nibbs needs a long return to equalize the loss of ant hill the guy that is best suited to spy reed.

Who the fuck knows tho, maybe the OL plays well, maybe Trey Moore rises up and spies reed like an ant hill  clone.

this one feels like first one to 34 wins, but damn I could see this a fucking shoot out beyond the 30’s the way the D has been playing.

I’d also add if Texas would play all three phases well for 4 quarters, which would be for the first time this year, Texas wins by two scores.

Fuck fuck fuck

@Tex Pete stop being a pussy. Ant hill out is fucking terrible news. He’s a one man game changer. Texas can win but in no universe is this anything but bad news especially going against a qb that can’t drop back and pass worth a shit but can improvise and cause havoc.  Make matters worse we are down another LB because of targeting. Football is a game of matchups, ant hill vs Reed my money is on ant hill every day and twice on Sunday. But without him our LBs are mid. That’s just a fact. So the match up flips unless someone balls out like they haven’t  so far this year.

So stop being a pussy with your fucking neg.

This site already has a satyanash. Shut the fuck up.

You’re a simpleton. I think Texas can win, but there are aspects of this game that do not line up for us well at all. But let’s beat our chests like gorillas instead of being educated and understand the match ups.

Go pour another drink and lose your phone.

Only thing I know for certain is that Roberson will have a stupid penalty.

Maybe aggy will have a stupid special teams penalty

I’m betting on a muffed punt or more likely a Reed INT at the exact wrong time.

I'd probably roll with 1 LB most of the 1st half. A second db would be valuable for spy purposes.

PK just needs to mix everything up today if Hill can't go. Multiple fronts, looks, and coverages to keep Reed guessing where the pressure is coming from. Maybe work Jonah Williams more snaps in the 1st half?

You’re confused. And you’re most likely an aggy. Shut the fuck up.

No you’re one of the pettiest posters on this site. Always have been.

as for my Texas chops, class of 98, second gen alum (parents both first time college grads both horns), didn’t apply to any other university.  And I got stories about being baptized into the burnt orange that would make Colt McCoy blush.

yes, usually in their mouths

I'm thinking we'd want the ball first given Ty'Anthony's suspension (not to mention Ant's questionable status).  Anyone think we'll receive if we win the toss?

I see we’re having some pregame anxiety  diarrhea in here. It’ll be ok guys.

Fuck that. Deferred every time imo

Well, regardless of whether Ant plays or not, I think this defense is better in Q3/Q4.  What I don't know is if there is a statistically significant time of possession advantage to receiving the ball in the first half.

I think Hill should attempt to play. If he’s ineffective on the first drive, well he gave it his best.

The Smith targeting penalty is a gut punch.

It feels like the stars are aligning for aggy, so of course we’ll win.

I am genuinely curious about people who make hollow, borderlne-retarded statements like this. There are very genuine reasons for concern. Is it a lock we will lose, of course not. Hell, it may even be a coin flip. However, it is most certainly not a lock we will win. I'd like to hear the justification behind your belief that, as things are right now, it is a certainty everything will be ok.
