The old Americana. It's now a public library.

Played baseball on that field growing up.  A lot of those scenes were filmed in Allandale where I grew up.  The front yard that they cut through in the chase scene was lived in by a kid at my elementary schools house.  There is an old cemetery right behind it.  The were some scenes also shot Northwest rec center on Allandale/Koenig lane.

I just finished a rec league basketball season at NW rec. You don't remember what scenes they filmed around there?

Don't know the particular ones.  Friends that were extras mentioned it years ago. I haven't been able to identify them when watching the movie.  It is possible that they never made it into the movie.

So In about eight months, those seniors to be—-will Be celebrating their 25th high school reunion.  My 25th is also this next May/June.  But yet they were somehow invented when I was a real high school senior yet they were somehow existing the year I was conceived.  Mind.  blown.

theres a 2% chance I attend my actual high school reunion but A 98% chance I attend whatever Alamo this AFS does to commemorate the ocassion next year.

Great movie.  I've always considered it that generation's "American Graffiti"

I love those red heads maaaaan.

Great family.  i grew up with the youngest one.  They owned a number of stores around the Austin area.  Just ran into the mom last weekend.  I knew a number of people in the movie as extras.

I never played at that field, but my boys have a couple times. Then I showed them the baseball scene in D&C. Heads exploded.

That inspired me to pull up that scene on YouTube because we eat at La Mancha across the street all the time. Man Parker Posey was gold that role.

From what I remember back then, the gate they put in the outfield that Mitch went out of was the payment for using the field. That gate wasn’t there when I played on it a year or so prior.

Is that where Jorge’s used to be? We used to eat there all the time as a kid.

Yes.

This is a pretty good oral history leading up to the film/filming that is like 15 years old, but still a great read

Read this today.

Great read.

My cousin was working at a bookstore at the time D&C came out.  For my birthday she gave me a Dazed and Confused book, that was set up like a year book.

Student and teacher photos.

How Wooderson acquired the Chevelle, etc.

Awesome book.

My sister graduated in ‘75, and the first time we watched it together she said it was dead on.  Except the cars in the movie were nicer than most any in the school parking lot.  Minus the primered Duster.

Oh hes a dead man alright, he's fucking dead.

SHOTGUN!

One of my favorite characters ever.

That is such an incredibly well acted and directed little bit in the film. I can’t even imagine how you interpret that from a script.

“You cool man?”

“Like how?”

“OK”

Linklater is a master of dialogue.

SHOTGUN!

Awesome.

I still get a kick out of how many times Mitch grabbed his nose in that one scene.

It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

I hate that guy!

Speaking of other locations around my neighborhood (Americana, Top Notch), The Emporium pool hall is the small strip center off N. Lamar where Stiles Switch BBQ is now located.

She's great in damn near every role, def on my all time celebrity crush list

The best part about Parker Posey is if you watch Peta Jensen doing porn, she kinda looks like a younger Parker Posey.  And you can add your own dialogue from Posey's filmography.

Back to the movie, what happened to Nicky Katt?  He was working like a madman in the 90's and 2000's, and has just fallen off the face of the Earth.

But Dark Knight

Northwest Pony still plays at that field.  Coached my son there in 2016 and 2017.

A favorite scene.

It's always bugged me that the old man grabs Pink's left arm when asking if his arm is ready. Pink is clearly right handed. Trivial I know.

Forearms not very developed...probably sucked.

Her roles in "Waiting for Guffman" and "Best in Show" were spectacular

Melvin was the Student Council president of my high school when I was a Soph and he was a Sr.

Apparently it was Ted Nugent on his t-shirt this whole time, not Bob Marley.  That's what I get for having never watched the movie sober.
