As does Violent Night.

I was torn, but that's on the Xmas list of naughty and nice for sure.

A relatively new favorite that is so bad it's good...but still bad...is Christmas With The Campbells.  Judge for yourself.

If theres a Madea xmas movie, and I just know there must be, it definitely makes the shit list.

i know this is an unpopular opinion.. but Christmas Vacation. i find it tedious and so unfunny.

before i get bombarded, i consider Vacation a classic and a top 3 comedy of the 80s.

I like to say 'Now here's a tree. This here is a tree.' when picking out a Christmas tree. My wife laughs and laughs (not really).

For some reason the delivery guy's reaction the second time he's asked what it is always makes me laugh.  I have the little figure of him on my table of Christmas movie decorations.

I’d be interested to see what the age breakdown is of people who do and don’t like A Christmas story. I suspect us gen Xers can appreciate it because we had hard ass parents. I could see how the younger generations wouldn’t appreciate it.

I’m not sure if it’s a generational thing as much as an age thing. I thought it was kind of dumb when I was younger. Now I watch it from the Old Man’s point of view, and realize how lucky I was to grow up in the home that I did.

I'm Gen X and love A Christmas Story. When I was younger, I enjoyed it from the perspective of Ralphie and the sole focus of getting the present you wanted the most for Christmas. As a dad, the Old Man is who I enjoy watching now. Darren McGavin gave a great performance dealing with all the beaten down shit dads endure. The part where you see him revert back to a kid as Ralphie discovers the rifle is how I feel when watching my kids get excited for Christmas presents.

Overquoting. Thinking its funny after saying the same played out shit for years. Same reason they almost killed Chappelle Show

I had some thing else to add, but if you’ll excuse me, I have to go put some water in Greenspoint’s mama’s dish.

You have also made Cousin Eddie's list. Get ready to have his septic system sprayed all over your yard.

As an adult, it became my favorite scene in the movie.

I'm the prime age demographic for Home Alone but it never really grabbed me. Even as a kid I though the premise was really fucking stupid.

I like A Christmas Story but I overdid the TBS marathons before streaming and I just never care to pull it up these days.

My son watched Polar Express nonstop for over a year regardless of the season. The animation is creepy but I still enjoy the story.

Die Hard is a fine movie, but people going overboard with the "is it a Christmas move" arguments is really fucking annoying. Who the fuck cares? Watch it whenever the fuck you want.

Christmas Vacation is still great. This thread is literally the first time the "mountains in Chicago" thing even crossed my mind. I had to google the scene to even see what y'all were talking about. And the sled scene is just a cartoonish interlude, NL movies have plenty of them

Anyone criticizing Bad Santa can fuck right off. It's a perfect movie. Every scene, every word, it's perfect.

These folks also probably have complaints about John Candy water skiing in The Great Outdoors.

I love the fact that my boys (age 11 and 10) love The Great Outdoors, Uncle Buck (really anything with John Candy) and Christmas Vacation. I'll take my wins where I can get them

Not necessarily a generational thing, but definitely a hard ass parent thing. I graduated from UT in 2009, and my dad is the Old Man.

All you guys hating on Love Actually are just looking at it wrong.

Love Actually. It sucks, every character is a terrible person and it's way too long.

Christmas Vacation. Terrible slapstick comedy. Has to be a nostalgia factor like Christmas Story. Both movies suck.

The Paul McCartney/Wings song.

It's so goddamn long and terrible that it qualifies for this thread.

I hate this song more than any song ever. Christmas or otherwise. Its so bad that I've considered hating everything Paul McCartney has ever been apart of.

Is that the wonderful Christmas time ear worm of despair?

I’d like to humbly submit Oh. What. Fun.

The only people that could possibly like this movie are retirees with a crush on. Michelle Pfeiffer.

Brutally unfunny , set in Houston, and of course they shot every single frame in Atlanta. They didn’t even both with some establishing shots of Waterfall Park or the Sam Houston statue. And worst of all the theme is the most tired Christmas tradition of all. Nobody appreciates how hard moms work to make a nice a Christmas for their families.

This is a perfect Surly thread.  You idiots are just naming all the good Christmas movies and saying they suck.  A real bunch of assholes up in here.  Bravo.

Thanks, for some reason I thought that monument got removed by that national wave  a few years back.

Not to derail the thread but Ole Sam was a staunch Unionist. I think he’s pretty safe. I hope.

And this qualifies because they are all the EXACT SAME MOVIE
I used to get stuck watching these with my ex and her family.  My FIL and I would crack jokes like "Is this the one where one of them returns to a small town, discovers their true love, has a big misunderstanding and then they get back together at the end?"  The looks my ex and MIL would give us were something.
I would also nominate White Christmas.  I actually enjoyed it the first time, maybe the second time, but it was a family tradition for my ex to watch it EVERY Christmas Eve.  Even hearing the damn song now is triggering to me.

This is how you enjoy them
