I don't follow recruiting, but saw some highlights on Derrek Cooper a few months ago and he looks pretty formidable. The posts look pretty current. Did he de-commit or something? Too young? Is this guy gonna be here next year or what? Check out his highlights...

The Texas Longhorns secured a commitment from Derrek Cooper, ESPN's No. 1 running back in the 2026 class, in July 2025, a major coup for Coach Sarkisian's staff, who later added local standout Jett Walker, a flipped commitment from Minnesota, to form a powerful 2026 backfield duo, notes ESPN, 247Sports, and USA Today. Cooper, a versatile, big-play threat from Florida, chose Texas over top programs, while Walker brings local talent and impressive high school stats, giving Texas two highly-touted backs for their future.
Derrek Cooper (Class of 2026)
  • Status: ESPN's No. 1 RB and a top-30 national recruit.
  • From: Chaminade-Madonna Prep, Hollywood, Florida.
  • Key Factors: Running Back Coach Chad Scott, Sarkisian's vision for an all-purpose role, and comparisons to Bijan Robinson.
  • Why He Chose Texas: Over Miami, Georgia, Ohio State, and Florida State.
This video discusses why Derrek Cooper chose the Texas Longhorns:

You could always just look at the recruiting board. Yes he signed and will be on campus.

Please god let us get a good RB in the portal. Love Wisner and he’s a good success story considering he wasn’t a big time recruit, but I can’t do another year of mostly 40 yard 3ypc games with a couple 150 yard games mixed in.

Then you need to be praying to portal in about 3-4 stud offensive linemen.  With a competent OL, you’ll get about a dozen games from Wisner looking the way he does against aggy.

I think I'm going to miss Ethan Burke the most.  His ability to look unstoppable in big games will be missed.

God speed at the next level.

Our offensive line was good last year and the same thing happened

I think Jackson looks like he will be a star. I am not sure he will eclipse Burke's production next, but I do not think it will be a dramatic drop. Though that is the typical stupid fan opinion that every freshman will be an All-American by the time he is a sophomore. I am more worried about Safety. That is a position were knowing where to be is more important than talent. Though it is way too early to worry about anything. Have to see the portal playout first.

The run blocking was never really good, it was their pass blocking that was elite but with a poor pocket presence QB, and they also had the occasional screw up (GA regular season).

Sark needs to know that his "execution, execution" mantra is just wishful thinking, he fucked up bad.

Still waiting for Floods announcement that he put his name into the portal

Really can’t believe he isn’t going to bowl game. I read they all get a PlayStation and leather jacket.

Need portal studs at RB, OG, OT, C, LB, and CB, plus backfills for any unexpected losses from the projected 2 deep.  If we don’t address the OL we are fucked.  Otherwise we should have a better team next season.

Don’t forget WR, TE, QB

And DL, S

Is there a running list of declarees, portal jumpers or those who want to get started selling insurance asap?

I didn't list eligibility since that seems to be unlimited these days.

Easily the best inside linebacker we’ve had since DJ. Pretty shocking how mediocre we’ve been at that position this century.

I think I'm going to miss Ethan Burke the most.  His ability to look unstoppable in big games will be missed.

His sophomore year at Alabama to open the year he was unblockable. I was pleased that SEC refs actually could call holding, which we would not see over multiple seasons in the Rig12.

I remember the discussions last year about our poor run blocking. Sark wanting to be a good inside zone team but we could only (passably) block outside zone, and only at times.

We finished 12th in the SEC in rushing yards/game this year. Last year's O line had us 10th. They were by no means a "good" O line, but like this year's unit, they were able to string together some solid games throughout the season, and some stinkers otherwise. My optimism for next year is that we have the tackles figured out and they are still young and getting stronger. If we can get 1-2 starting IOL between Center and Guard, and let someone else develop into a starter, hopefully we get our first "good" o line in a while.

Texas is 14th in yards/attempt in SEC play this year (3.08 yards)

Texas was 3rd in yards/attempt in SEC play last year (4.32 yards)

That is dramatic drop off, but it is worse when you consider the QB.

Arch has 244 yards on 83 carries this year.

Quinn had -82 on 57 carries.

Texas allowed 23 this year. You could probably double that number with Quinn behind this OL

Texas gave up 37 last year.

Quinn wouldn't have finished the season behind this line.  They would have gotten him killed.  Arch avoided approx 1 million sacks.

Errin Joe likes and respects Neal Brown more than Sark? But, that's just a SWAG.

Not much of a bio for Mr. Joe on our athletics site.

Promotion and a raise?

Joe's job just got a little harder, though. Now he gets to sift through the kids who may not have received P4 offers and project their future development. Find the "diamonds in the rough" so to speak.

Of course, this is something UNT has done for years and there's probably not a better market to do it than DFW, unless it's Greater Houston.

Arch would have 1000 yards rushing if he would have tucked and run a few more times.  Held on way too long in the pocket he had.

Dronett was a better pass rusher. Burke isnt close in that area.

True dat

Dronett had 10 sacks to Burke's 3 his final season at UT

Maybe Joe just likes Neal Brown better and that’s enough. Sometimes people prefer to work with people they like and get along with

Seems like the #1 recruiting class is coming to a head next season. I made a prediction two seasons ago that this next season would be the one, but it's apparent that it's do-or-die with getting a competent OL this offseason. Trust in Sark, need him to go off again like he did in the 2024 portal. Next two years will be extremely important for him and the program.

General manager is a promotion that likely comes with a decent bump in pay? Not that hard to figure out.
Stroh to the portal.
T&P to the starting QB of his landing spot.

Watch Stroh suddenly become an All conference award winner at his next stop.

No, but our OL typically have issues bending at the right positions.

From this we can surmise that Stroh's busted assignments weren't mental, but physical. He simply doesn't have the athletic ability or footwork to take on SEC defenders. Maybe he'll find a program that won't require their IOL to move much.

Good luck, Connor

supposedly he does not have a good relationship with Akina, so this may be a move preparing in case Akina is not let go. We shall see though.

Well, Longhorn fans aside, particularly the internet ones, college sports have always been heavy on "feels," and anointing special players that in the grand scheme aren't that special, see, e.g. Gaskamp Award.

NIL and related concepts are making everything 100% transactional, so there's not going to be many "feels" going forward.

I don’t understand why Williams has struggled so much. He’s been a huge disappointment so far.
