December 6Dec 6 Why is Stoops doing Sonic commercials? i would rather see the two dorks in the minivan swapping dad jokes than Stoops.
December 6Dec 6 Author Announcers were awkwardly quiet coming out of the break. Think they got a talking-to about their criticism of the officiating

December 6Dec 6 I think Tulane got one of the local voodoo witches to do some of that voodoo shit on UNT. No team can possibly have this much go wrong in a single game without catching a single break.
December 6Dec 6 Tulane got smoked by both Ole MIss and UTSA. And their best win was against who? A 6 point win over 8-4 Memphis? Playoff bound!
December 6Dec 6 The penalty for fumbling out of the endzone vs any part of the sideline is too punitive. If that was a smarter rule, those guys probably don’t call it that way.
December 6Dec 6 Tulane defense is legitimately a lot better so they would likely win anyway but man the big blown calls are ridiculous.

If that was a smarter rule, those guys probably don’t call it that way. Why? The endzone is the defense's territory, it's not part of the field. It makes perfect sense for the ball to revert to the defense. Most of the complaints about this rule come from fans of the team on offense that are infuriated when it happens to them and can't think clearly about the reasoning behind it. It's the same logic used in rugby. Edited December 6Dec 6 by satyanash
December 6Dec 6 Just now, Da Fino said: As in you keep the ball but move back the 20? Yes. I don't think it has any wheels right now, but it exists. Maybe in 5 years when it affects the AFC Championship or some other big game.

There is nothing wrong with the current rule. A team should not be rewarded and given the ball back for fumbling it out the endzone.

It's the same logic used in rugby. I’ve never had my team’s result changed bc of this. It’s just crazy in my opinion. For example, let’s say Wingo breaks a screen for 97 yards but gets hit and the ball goes out at the 1. Texas ball at the 1. But if it goes out beyond the cone it completely flips the field?
December 6Dec 6 Eric Morris may have an offense inspired by Mike Leach, but he definitely has a defense reminiscent of the Leach era.

Wingo got lucky in your example. sometimes thems the breaks.

December 6Dec 6 Author 3 minutes ago, Da Fino said: Also, @satyanash why use Rugby and Logic in the same sentence? Rugby is where the rule in football originally came from.
December 6Dec 6 4 minutes ago, Da Fino said: I understand how the boundary works. I’m saying it’s too punitive It's a good rule that isn't understood by fans, just like the dropped third strike rule in baseball. Both of those rules keep the rules consistent. For the touchback situation, the goal line/end zone is a special area of the field. The consequence for the ball going through/into that area and becoming a dead ball depend on which team was responsible for that action (i.e., which end zone it is). If it's the other team's end zone then it's a touchback. Doesn't matter where they last possessed it, the rule is consistent. If it's their own end zone then it's a safety. Also doesn't matter where they last possessed it. Edited December 6Dec 6 by Huckleberry
