Aggy sucks, no contest there, but....if those two were on our team, they would be the second best WR duo behind Smith and Tate, imo; they just unfortunately have Reed as a QB, but they've made him look so, so much better than he is. Once we took away the pass game, Reed was inert, Owens sucks, but EJ Smith is weirdly much better than Owens. Owens has always sucked, and it showed with his 3.owens ypc. Smith averaged 6.8 ypc. Had they actually used him properly, who knows how much better he could have gotten. He's the only reason they have 17 instead of 10 points. His moves are what I wish Baxter could do. Is that a product of our DL? Possibly. But the probability is low since we held Owens and Reed in check. I dunno. There's something different about Emmitt's kid. I bet he plays in the NFL for at least 6 years, which would be 4 more than Owens. Anyway, their WR's are good, I'm not gonna go full hate-tard just because they're aggys. Had they had Arch throwing to them (late year Arch) they would have been destroying teams. Wingo is fine, he's just an athlete playing WR, and I like Mosley. Moore seems to have regressed. But we do have McCutcheon who will be so much better. My point being is, as much as I hate the Harvard on the Brazos tards, their WR corps is miles better than ours, loss or not. December 7Dec 7 There's been a lot of (deserved) talk about out of conference scheduling. But if Alabama doesn't make the playoff tomorrow, it raises a very bizarre question regarding conference championship games going forward. Specifically, if you're ranked on the fringe of the Top 10, but safely in the CFP field going INTO conference championship weekend, would it be more beneficial to simply decline the invitation to go play your championship game? BYU needed the Big 12 title to solidify their spot. There are no other quality Big 12 teams. They have no resume builders aside from a lone win against Utah. Plus they were ranked 11 and were going to be shoved out by other conference champions if they didn't win. But Alabama really did NOT need that game today. Alabama finished ahead of Ole Miss, A&M, and OU in SEC standings. If we had lost to A&M last week, Alabama would have sat home this week and would have been a 100% lock for the playoff. Yet they're potentially going to miss the field simply because they HAD to play one extra game than the rest of them. I get it, it's Alabama. They've been given the benefit of the doubt A LOT. They've been given free passes A LOT. I know. I would much rather we get in over them. But I truly think that the business decision for the committee has to be to still let Alabama into the playoff. Because if they don't make it, teams might as well just say "No thanks. We're good. We like where we're seeded. We don't need game" and just refuse to play a 13th game before the post season. And let's not forget, last year Georgia largely got knocked out of the playoff because they were playing with an inexperienced Gunnar Stockton because Beck got knocked out in the SECCG. Higher seeded teams with literally nothing to gain have a real argument that the conference title game as a nuisance and an unnecessary risk. Conference title games are nice revenue generators for the conferences, but if they're literally going to cost conferences representation in the CFP then I wonder if teams and also conferences as a whole start to wonder what benefit they really add. I really think Conference Championship games could be on the way out depending on how tomorrow morning shakes out. Maybe not imminently, but it definitely could be on the horizon. And I hate pushing a Bama talking point. They've reaped plenty of rewards over the last decade.

December 7Dec 7 Everyone that has an FCS game on their schedule replace it with a top 10 matchup instead then tell me that they would have 2 losses or 1 loss still. Losing to Florida is so fucking bad, because we knew better than giving any excuses to not put Texas in. Losing to Georgia isn't good by any means, but they are a respectable team. Florida is and was and forever will be a massive stain on Texas

I kind of feel that removing future difficult non conference games on your schedule as a response to this season feels like Aggy mentality. Beat teams like Florida that we should absolutely beat and we would have been a no brainer lock for the playoff this year.

That said, it would be hard to argue for including Bama because they made the conference championship game and have Miami over Duke. In the current format, CCG don't make sense. Gruden basically suggested having a mini playoff within the conferences. That doesn't address differences in the quality of conferences though. We need a way to allocate number of slots based on conference strength and then let the conferences choose who their reps will be.

December 7Dec 7 How long before Grubb starts getting serious heat about his running game? Uw was similar in 2023 at 118 per game and a little more in 2022. But never 200 a game where a lot elite teams want to approach.
