December 13Dec 13 Y'all can argue back and forth on if he was qualified, or black or white or whatever, but he obviously should not have been given the job. He's proven that. He was screwing that girl ever since he became the head coach and promoted her because of it. This isn't something that popped up after he was there for ten years. It was his first shot at the big time, and he started fucking around the moment he got the position. Whatever his resume said, he wasn't ready. He didn't have the head or the stability for the job.

December 13Dec 13 3 minutes ago, The_Great_Hornsby said: Ryan Day has won a national championship and Moore didn't. Ryan Day was gifted the best job in the US. Michigan has not been as good as they were during the cheating era. They got caught and had recruiting restrictions heaped on them, so them falling back to 9 wins is perfectly fine, especially since they made the mistake of scheduling two playoff teams OOC both years. Moore put together the number 6 and 11 recruiting classes for 25 and 26, with 5 5stars. Had they just played a normal OOC they are a 10 win team and in the playoffs with a freshman QB. He is a shitty human being but that doesn't mean he can't coach. Day just lost to Indiana after the number, 2, 4, 4, and 5 recruiting classes in a row. He also lost to Moore twice in a row with that same roster.
December 13Dec 13 The Day hire got criticisms here and elsewhere as well. Pretty much any interim elevated to head coach does. Day proved the haters wrong, Moore just proved them right beyond their wildest hatespectations.

The point that paper billionaires can monetize without liquidating and recognizing gains still stands.

December 13Dec 13 Okay, the story is just getting more confusing. Recent allegations: When Shivers stopped seeing Moore, he tried to fire her or, in fact, fired her, and then began stalking her. Shivers then went to the AD and showed him all the tea. (Text messages, etc) AD then fired Moore and Moore then went to Shiver’s apartment. Chaos ensues. I want to address the firing in another post, because it reminds me of another infamous incident. It is interesting that she will potentially sue the university and make off w millions considering she also violated policy. (Yes, I understand that she is considered a victim due to the power imbalance.) Edited December 13Dec 13 by TreatyOak

It is interesting that she will potentially sue the university and make off w millions considering she also violated policy. (Yes, I understand that she is considered a victim due to the power imbalance.) The 2025 timeline of the story is a little confusing. Moore was seeing Shivers from 2022-2024. Shivers received a salary increase from $55k to $90k in 2025. That raises a couple of questions: Was raise to buy silence or to incentivize remaining in the relationship? Was the stalking to insure silence? Some of the stories indicate it was an open secret around the department. As such, when she broke it off, it was only a matter of time before she or someone else would report it. Shivers will likely sue the university, as she is largely unemployable for the foreseeable future. As you note, they both violated policy, but the power imbalance is key.

It generally wouldn't for an intentional tort committed by its employee outside of his employment duties. 100k nuisance settlement to avoid continued publicity? Now, a suit against Moore would be very different. And he actually has money, so he wouldn't likely be judgment proof.
December 13Dec 13 6 minutes ago, TreatyOak said: In a case like this, what is a more realistic number in your mind? If she has damages, they are mostly of an "intangible" or "dignitary" sort, pain, suffering, humiliation. Although those are awarded in lawsuits, they are generally tied to actual economic damages. That is, I actually lost $5 in this deal, but it was so humiliating I ask you to award me $10. There are cases, such as defamation, where reputational damages are all there are, but even those tend to be tied to a number, as in "I'm going to need to spend $50k on a PR campaign to restore my reputation," and then you might get some multiple or fraction of that for the "dignitary" part. So, I'm not sure she would have any theory supporting large economic damages, so it tends to follow that the dignitary damages would be small also. One factor at work, though, is that UM would probably prefer to avoid exposing the sordid details and so might pay more than the case is economically worth to make her go away. And UM, as a state entity, might have some sovereign immunity protections.

However, it is now being reported by news sources that she didn’t go to the AD with the receipts but in fact, went to the law firm that was handling the investigation. She reported that she was being stalked and that she when tried to transfer out of the department, her transfer was blocked by the coach. That seems like that falls within the boundary of the school, no?

Something they talked about was in the police report, when Moore broke in and started screaming and grabbing butter knives, the first thing she did was call her lawyer. Her lawyer told her, what the fuck are you doing, hang up and call the police.

In terms of her violating any HR policy, I’ve read that the UM employee handbook says that reporting of any relationship is the sole responsibility of the senior employee/supervisor. There’s also the story that UM was investigating this situation for a couple of months and that she denied the relationship. I do agree that puts her in a bad light but any decent lawyer could successfully argue that she had to lie to keep her job given the athletic dept culture. Therefore it’s unreasonable to expect to tell the truth. Put me on a jury and I would have zero qualms about making UM pay out.
