December 15Dec 15 (Inspired by Rob Reiner.) So many directors only have 1-2 notes. They're great at action movies, OR comedies, OR science fiction, but can't do them all. Seems to me it's like being a multi-sport athlete. So who's good at it? Robert Zemekis. Comedy, sci fi, horror, character drama, action. James Mangold. Comic book movies, westerns, drama, action. Who you got?
December 15Dec 15 Coen Brothers - Comedy, Westerns, Dramas, Action, really dabble in a little of everything.
December 15Dec 15 Not mentioning everything else he’s done, but Spielberg put out Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List IN THE SAME FUCKING YEAR. So, him.The Coen Brothers is a good one. I just went on a journey and watched all of their movies from the beginning. Just wild swings in genre and (almost) all great movies.
December 15Dec 15 I love Reiner, but I don’t think he strayed too far from comedy. A Few Good Men and Misery both have plenty of comedic scenes. Same for Zemeckis and the Coens. Agreed on Mangold. His filmography is all over the place. Oliver & Company to Cop Land. The Sweetest Thing to A Complete Unknown.
December 15Dec 15 Rick Linklater needs a shout out just for having both the Before trilogy and School of Rock in his oeuvre.

December 15Dec 15 Adam McKay: Anchorman, Step Brothers, Talledega Nights Big Short, Vice, Don't Look Up

TIL that any movie with a single funny scene is a comedy.
December 15Dec 15 Ridley Scott Sci-Fi Historical Epics Crime and Buddy Flicks (like Thelma and Louise) And if you buy what the Hollywood Foreign Press did with The Martian....."comedy"
December 15Dec 15 Author Sam Mendes Spy movies Art housework or whatever you'd classify American Beauty and Revolutionary Road. War movies Plenty of directors can do 2. But 3 and above gets into rare air.
December 15Dec 15 The Frighteners is such an underrated move. Zemeckis hits all the genres in the same move.
December 15Dec 15 Nolan? superheroes, war, historical epics, crime/mystery, science fiction... they do all have his time signature, but the themes and topics are wide. Edited December 15Dec 15 by mchookem
December 15Dec 15 Robert Altman: M*A*S*H, California Split, Secret Honor, The Player, The Long Goodbye, 3 Women, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Nashville, Gosford Park, Popeye, Short Cuts...and the list goes fucking on.
December 15Dec 15 Danny Boyle is pretty eclectic as well. Scottish junkies to zombie plagues and a lot in between.
December 15Dec 15 Almost every single Kubrick film was unique in his filmography as far as genre goes. He did two noirs at the beginning of his career but otherwise everything else is singularly apart from the others.

He’s all over the place and always interesting. Deep cut for my cineastes, but Takashi Miike. Ron Howard is someone else, too, that doesn’t really have a personal visual style and is willing to play in lots of different sandboxes.

December 16Dec 16 Easy answer is Sheridan, between the 6666 and the Bosque Ranch that has to be over 250,000 acres of range.
Tuesday at 05:33 AM2 days Sooooo while not strictly a director, Jordan Peele is awesome. Lovecraft Country is underrated. Also, Coogler appears to be flawless
