December 17Dec 17 In 2023 we did a 10,000 Burpee Challenge. That was a useful accountability tool for me and I enjoyed having a thread and tracking my progress through the year. 2026 I want to do another fitness/exercise type goal. There are about 15 days left in the year, so if anyone would like to suggest a different goal that folks here can share, I am game. As it is for me, the goal I am thinking about is 2500 miles "cycled" (whether its road or peloton or whatever else) and 10,000 pushups. I think that 10k pushups should be fairly easy, 2500 miles might be a bit of a reach but I think I can do it. Both of those together I think are a good challenge. That's where I'm at for me right now, but this is fun as a group thing so if there is a different goal that people here would be interested in tracking together, I'm game. Unless it's 10,000 burpees. December 17Dec 17 As an enthusiastic participant in the 2023 initiative, who made it three days before injuring myself on a burpee, I look forward to monitoring everyone’s progress this year.
December 17Dec 17 I’d be up for body squats and pushups. Fuck burpees. The first year we did them (it may have been on the shag), they started to bother my hip a few months in. Took forever for it to quit. We used to do them daily in football while I was in school. I don’t think I’ll do them ever again. Unless that’s the only way to escape a Diddy party.
December 17Dec 17 I’d be in for 10,000 pushups though. I was doing 50 a day for a while up until a month or so ago.
December 17Dec 17 Author I’d be down to incorporate a body squat thing too. I imagine the bike miles thing might be a more limited group or just a me thing. 10k pushups of course is about 30 a day with some breaks.
December 17Dec 17 Author We had a Google sheet last time, we could do something similar or there’s probably some more modern way to do it. Sheet is probably easy enough…. 2023 Burpee Tracker - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JCyrVkOLzm06n7my0o7e3s4zFqxGfyRC0J7PCbAJ-Gw/edit?usp=drivesdk

Yeah I was mildly inspired by the 2022? one here but it just doesn’t feel right anymore. Shoulders, elbow, everything just hurts. Also, pushups or squats I can do just about anywhere with minimal space. 1 hour ago, Celery Man said: I’d be down to incorporate a body squat thing too. December 18Dec 18 I haven't done a push up in 30 years. Let's see!Lol I lost a bet with a guy that worked for me. Loser owed the other guy 25 pushups. Now, I dont know that he could have done any, but I know I couldn’t hardly do 5 when I got home and tried. Like you, I hadn’t done any weight lifting or things of that nature in nearly 25 years. I had to start all over so I didn’t embarrass myself.
December 19Dec 19 Author Alright, got some takers on pushups, I’m game for trying the body squats thing too, I feel like that achievable but am mostly thinking of what all i can try and fit in every day. For me, this will be my cycling goal in terms of mileage. I’ve done 192 miles in December so far, probably spending more time per day than might be sustainable over a year but I expect my distance per hour to increase. I need to figure out how to track where I am on that map over time easily, that would be a fun visualization for me. Bonus that I’m facing the right direction as I sit on the bike. Friday at 07:12 PM5 days My right shoulder is still fucked up from the 2023 Burpee Challenge. Seems like the way I often sleep has something to do with it, and I aggravated it shoveling snow a few weeks ago. Getting old sucks.
Friday at 08:46 PM5 days I got into pull-ups 6 months ago. They suck starting out, but you get the hang of them pretty quick. I use the weight assisted pull up machine at the gym, but one can attach one of those heavy duty work out rubber bands to a home pull-up bar to get the same assistance. I've noticed a fair amount of upper body definition improvement since I started. My 2026 goal is to steadily reduce the weight assistance to zero. Pull ups seem to be high on the list of the most effective exercises touted by all the youtube workout guys. I do 3 sets of 10 every other day. So about 5,000 a year. I also do the same number of dips when I have gym access.

Monday at 03:18 PM2 days Author Alright, i feel like we have some takers on 10k pushups. I'm going to do this bike thing as well, and I'm down for trying the squat thing but it seems like UT_OB1 and I might be the only two interested in that? I set up a workbook here for tracking at least the pushups - Surly 2026 Pushup Challenge I've probably fucked it up in a few ways but there's a sheet for inputing daily totals and then another sheet that should tally the totals and display a chart of your progress. I'll fuck with that some more as whoever set it up last time had some nice averaging stuff that i probably didn't get right because I am not a spreadsheet guy.
Monday at 05:54 PM2 days I'll join in on pushups. I may end up dropping as I hurt a shoulder last year and I haven't really done my strength traning in upper body since. Mainly just working on flexibilitiy and such. But I'll give it a shot!

That’s something else I normally do.
Monday at 11:35 PM2 days What about 1000 pullups, 10k squats, 10k pushups choose your own adventure? Im down. I did a lot of pushups this year.
Monday at 11:52 PM2 days Author I’m cool for whatever, can fuck around with the tracking spreadsheet to add tables and graphs for all those things as well. Honestly I’m intrigued with the pull-up thing but would need to figure out where to put a bar. @UT_OB1 had mentioned 20-30k as a body weight squat goal, I assume that is reasonable but I’m also a little worried about making sure I get the consistent time for all of these things. That’s part of what the challenge is for though and pushups don’t actually take any time hardly. Edited Monday at 11:55 PM2 days by Celery Man
Tuesday at 01:21 AM2 days @Celery Man yeah making sure you have time will be the big thing. I think 10k squats would be too easy depending on what else you’re doing. With your biking goal maybe it’s the right number. im down for the 10k pushups and im going to go with 30k squats. I’m going to give it a serious attempt, and if it see unreasonable I might drop it to 20k.
