I'm not saying it was a bad move - I think it's the best hire Sark could have made. I just think folks should be real about where it's coming from and the challenges associated with it. Muschamp was an analyst. Smart and Schumann know a thing or two about defense. This isn't gonna have a material impact on Georgia's defense. Counterpoint. The defense looked worse as the season went on and other SEC caliber teams learned how to game plan against it. After Kentucky we were giving up 30+ points a game until we gave up 17 to aggy. He has the best recruits in the nation and a decline in performance is not great. Bringing in a guy like Muschamp with skins on the wall and is that is familiar with the program is a home run hire and a huge move to improve our already good defense. For once Sark was proactive and made a good choice and yall want to act like he is crazy. Edited December 19Dec 19 by The_Great_Hornsby

I have high expectations for Muschamp and think he can do a great job, I don't disagree with you, but with the caveat that year 1 in any new system has hiccups. It's the latter part that makes me skeptical of the fanfic line that Sark just canned PK because the defense took a step back (as if the OC isn't a bigger problem through that lens). Texas is all in on 2026 and that vision probably didn't include breaking in a new DC because the year 1 issues that can entail are at odds with the idea of maximizing next year. I think Sark was proactive in the sense that he was aware that PK was looking for an out and made a quick move to secure a top replacement - not that he just looked at PK this season and over the past 4 years and said "Nope, not good enough." Anway, I think we're kind of going in circles so I'm gonna drop this here.
December 19Dec 19 So…yeah…this is interesting. Got some reading to catch up on. Was Manny _iaz not available?

Do you think Sark is gonna fire himself? lol Also Texas is ALL IN on 2026 and that's why this move was made. We are going all in for Arch's junior year. If PK was looking for an out he wouldnt have been FIRED. We wouldve parted ways or he would have resigned. That's how that works. But nope, he was FIRED.

I figured Muschamp would never come back to Texas because of the rumored screwing around with the rumored HCIW designation 15 years ago (time flies when Texas football is mediocre for a decade!). My assumption is this will resonate with the Georgia and other SEC territory commits and recruits. Tyler Atkinson can be unleashed to his full ass kicking potential. He always loved Texas. So did his wife (probably more than he did), from what I’ve been told.
December 19Dec 19 My only reservation after dwelling is if the players pick up the new scheme and use half the season figuring out what they're supposed to do. It's next year or bust with Arch. I would have preferred continuity. But let's go coach blood.
December 19Dec 19 I ain’t deep into this thread, but I digress to the shocking news. IMO PK was the furthest from the programs problems. His unit has “carried” the team the last couple of seasons. Need a “play caller” (Sark stop) and an OL upgrade, IMO. RB coach was recently replaced. Still wow on PK!! Hook’em!!!

I appreciated him and think he’s great, but we aren’t taking advantage of our DL with his scheme. That’s a scheme you play when you don’t have our level of talent. It was almost impossible to run on us for a long time. His DL came up with multiple clutch goal line stands and 4th and short stands. Pretty much every defensive lineman improved with great strides under him. He turned 3 stars into first round draft picks. He's one of the best coordinators who have ever coached at Texas. December 19Dec 19 Wow I am just seeing this news now. I thought I was going to read PK was fired for cause or something but basically a straight trade…I dk, his D won us some games. Did look brutal in some. And wondering why our team has more transfers than so many other teams. What is going on?
December 19Dec 19 It smells kinda like butter teeth in here. if we are going back to the well why not go grab Chizik? He did ok here the year often we played Michigan in a bowl game. Edited December 19Dec 19 by Jimbob

I've seen chatter that Penn State is hiring Lynn away from U$C, and PK may be headed to U$C to replace him. PK is supposedly a west coast guy and wants to be back out that way. It could very well be a "PK wants to leave, Muschamp wants to come here, so let's do the obvious thing and everybody is happy" kind of situation.

I actually think most people do understand that. They also think, for better or worse, that Flood is the number one replacement priority, so should have been the first to go. But, he could also be regarded as the most critical and sensitive hire/fire, so maybe the last to go. There is a legit fear that Juluke was a deck chair shuffle. But if Scott was as unpopular as claimed, it might have just been a no-brainer.

December 19Dec 19 PK was Sark's most out-of-the-box hire for his first staff. He has been consistent at delivering quality defenses the last 4/5 years and has kept us in many games. Clearly Sark thinks we need a different approach.
