Greenland and Denmark are taking the wrong approach. The best way to deal with Trump is to stay out of his limited attention span. If you start telling him what he can and cannot do, you will be in his crosshairs. Staying quiet doesn't mean that the will ignore you but it increases the chances.

Greenland's approach?

President Trump on Friday continued to press for U.S. control of Greenland, telling reporters: "We are going to do something on Greenland, whether they like it or not."

I can't believe the guy who bankrupted a casino nearly doubled our defense budget from 800 billion to 1.5 trillion cuz NATO was ripping us off opts to fight NATO (and presumably Russia and China) over Greenland instead of fighting (presumably) Russia and China over Greenland with NATO.

I think everyone is aware that the NATO’s agreement that an attack on one is attack on all, was only enacted once: when the US was attacked on 9/11. Denmark sent 9,500 military personnel to Afghanistan and by some accounts they had the highest killed in action rate of any contributing country. I read there were 43 deaths. Their sons died not because someone attacked Denmark but that someone attacked the US.

I doubt Denmark had a burning desire to fight in Afghanistan but they honored their commitment to the United States. 9/11 wasn’t their fight but they answered the call.

Twenty something year later, a vietnam draft dodger is now threatening their sovereignty because the US can get wealthier. And Trump can get a new US map to show off to dictators visiting the White House.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Denmark and Greenland should both agree to hand over, under duress, Greenland to Donald Trump. They should state that they do not wish this move but that they fear the power of the US military and the resulting Danish and Greenlander deaths if they oppose it. This allows the next Dem President to give Greenland back. This is the best long term result for them.

Instead if they quietly accept some type of payment or negotiation, then there’s more of an argument that they agreed to the terms. Even if everyone knows otherwise. Don’t take $1 or $1T. Refuse any and all consideration to clearly demonstrate that it’s theft.

As posted before, Denmark has no say in the matter. Only Greenlanders do.

I'm an idiot, that fatty up thread was making the same observation. lol

It wouldn't surprise me if Trump looked at a flattened world map with the exaggerated projection and saw how huge Greenland looked. I mean look at it, it's as big as the US. By this same logic, we are bound to claim Antarctica next.

I sound like a fucking conspiracy nut, but I’ve told every single person I’ve spoken to about Greenland this same sentiment.

They laugh and say something like, “Ha! That would be funny.”

I look back at them with a very ‘I’m serious’ look and they get uncomfortable and leave because the reality of the truth is so unsettling to them.

And that is Trump in a nutshell. Dude is walking comedy that is really a terrifying tragedy. He’s torture served in a torta. He’s homicide smothered in hollandaise sauce. He’s genocide in a gyro.

The Greenlanders should invite Trump to visit and have him pet the polar bears. Not only would that solve some immediate problems in the US, the additional calories might help stabilize the polar bear population in the regions.

Heard a reporter today ask Dotard basically "What do you say to the Premier of Greenland who said they don't want to be a part of the USA?". Dotard said "That's their problem."

Greenland. An ally. NATO ally. It's hard to not come to the conclusion that he's doing this to break up NATO.

It's self-sabotage if you're stupid enough to truly believe that Trump puts America First. It makes perfect sense when you acknowledge the obvious- Trump acts on what he believes will benefit him.

Mitch still doesn’t mind voting with Trump on every bill that comes in front of him. You want to get someone’s attention, stop giving them everything they want.

Mitch is probably thinking of the defense contractors as Trump makes the European military-industrial complex great again. Long-term, a lot of European countries are going to try and get away from American countries.

Just as Vlad ordered.

European countries are sending troops to Greenland as a sign that they're protecting their ally against the US? I'm guessing that NATO countries haven't had to do this to one another before. Happy to be proven wrong.

#146

Would our military comply with orders to attack an ally for no reason? An ally being protected by all of our other allies?

Also, I’m assuming that purposefully dissolving NATO would finally be enough to get him impeached. For whatever that’s worth. Probably still couldn’t get a conviction in the senate.

#147

Don't overthink this. Think about the dumbest possible reason for everything and you have Trump's motivation. For example:

Trump wants to make Greenland part of the United States so that he will be remembered for the largest expansion, by area, in the history of the United States. He dreams of renaming Greenland to be Trump Island so that once he is gone, his name will appear in a Sharpie sized font on world maps.

He can't get credit for an expansion or rename it after himself until we own it. So we have to own it.

He's all about his perception of the biggest and the best, and stuff named after him. It's not that complicated.

Any member of the US military attacking a NATO ally would be committing treason (I've explained the syllogism before, but in simple terms: Const. says treaties (including NATO) are "the supreme law of the land; NATO treaty says an attack on one member is an attack on all (necessarily including the US); thus, an attack on a NATO ally is, as a matter of "the supreme law of the land," an attack on the US; the Const. defines treason as "levying war against" the US - ergo, an American attacking any NATO nation is committing treason, as a matter of law).

They would not just be following an illegal order, they would be committing treason. At that point, our choice will be either to fall into civil war, as we will have factions loyal to the Constitution fighting against open traitors, or, the Republic will end, fully and completely. Those are the choices.

Texas Jeff, you sweet summer child. All you say is true but likely what motivates him most is that he thinks he'll profit personally from seizing all these resources. He intends to become the richest person that ever lived through Greenland's rare earth minerals, Venezuela's seized oil, and all the cocaine they're going to traffic. It's unrealistic that those resources in Greenland and Venezuela can developed as quickly as he'd like to reap the profits he seeks but that doesn't speak to his intentions, only that he's not a great businessman.

Yep, it's a legacy thing, no more no less. Pure ego.
