BYU sucks, but their independent schedule is about as unfriendly as a team could get. Outside of a conference they have to plug teams in when they can get them which causes problems in preparation. Because it is usually against teams they are unfamiliar with.

Where in conference play you may have to face some tough teams back to back, you at least have the luxury of knowing them. BYU simply wasn’t prepared following Wisky. I don’t believe they are that much worse.

Trying to be Mormon Notre Dame just doesn't suit them.

As noted above, it's too different to prep for teams that make pretty much a year long non conference slate...

Would be better for BYU if in fact the school did join a power 5 conference, even Notre Dame partially joined the ACC...
