February 3, 20196 yr They don’t really roar that much during the tee shot. I was listening closely this week and it’s loud before the shot and as soon as most players hit the ball the noise level goes down until the result is known, then the reaction comes. Just makes the sign guy look silly. They were also pointing it out on the broadcast.
February 3, 20196 yr Probably so. The times I have been there people seem to generally try to respect the tee shot. And by generally, I mean no one makes an attempt to be quiet but they usually aren’t yelling.
February 3, 20196 yr It was interesting to hear all of the Johnny Miller tributes yesterday. Like him or not, I enjoyed his frankness. Seems like a genuinely good man.
February 3, 20196 yr I always liked him. Never could figure out though why he decided the 2nd tourney of the year was his last and why he quit on Saturday. Seems odd.

I believe it’s because he had so much success there. And Sunday would have taken spotlight from leaders. Was an odd tribute where everyone tried to find a way to say he was an acceptable asshole.“What I respect about you most is that you said what you meant” isn’t exactly the most glowing review of your career, imo
February 3, 20196 yr I mostly liked listening to Johnny Miller. He wasn’t always full of cliches and at least gave his take on things from the perspective of a guy who had been there. He certainly annoyed the hell out of people at times.
February 3, 20196 yr I’ve watched him for a long time and never knew he ate EZ Cheese out of the can and did the broadcasts without shoes a lot of the time. Quite an image. I could have done without the CR stuff.
February 3, 20196 yr Just now, tbone_ said: He has to take a stroke for that? Yup Surprised he didn't hit from where he was before Edited February 3, 20196 yr by Upgrayedd
February 3, 20196 yr That’s a stupid rule. If you replace a ball it shouldn’t be “in play” until you take your next stroke.
February 3, 20196 yr Awful break. The original shot wasn’t even that bad. It just took a freak bounce.
February 3, 20196 yr 1 minute ago, tbone_ said: Why? Because in theory, placing or dropping the ball is supposed to replicate what would have happened if you hit it to that spot. Silly game sometimes.
February 3, 20196 yr Losing a 5 stroke lead on one hole. Brutal. edit: only lost 4 strokes! Edited February 3, 20196 yr by Auto Driller

February 3, 20196 yr Just saw the replay. No reason for him to get the chip that aggressively but any penalty strokes are fucking garbage.
February 3, 20196 yr Also, great putt but a shit shot on 12. I like Fowler but his mental game is questionable.

His reputation as a guy who can't close will only grow stronger if he doesn't win this. And it doesn't look like he will. Those doubts are gonna really start creeping in. It's still a little shocking that he only has 4 PGA tour victories in his 10 year career.
February 3, 20196 yr Grace doesn't want to win this. Horrible bogey on 17. This is Rickie's tournament now.

February 4, 20196 yr Well he's got about a 40 yard shot here, ball below his feet, over water, tight pin, on a downslope. I'd say this is an easy one to get close. Edited February 4, 20196 yr by Pam Cummings

But Miller's contemporaries and colleagues all got visibly choked up saying their farewells. Especially Maltbie. That was telling to me. I don't want color commentators to be friendly with players. I want their honest opinion on when the player hits a poor shot, makes a mental error, and when they hit a great shot. You got all of that with Miller. He complemented Justin Thomas several times on his bump and runs around the greens on Saturday. He would have been just as honest if he had chunked them. I would have loved to hear him talk about Fowler's disastrous 11th. Sure, sometimes he was a little over the top in his critiques, but that was ok with me.
February 7, 20196 yr It sucks that there isn’t video of what Sergio did to the greens. Would have loved to see that. I also think it’s pretty cool what the euro tour is doing with the women- same course, same purse, alternating times. I like the idea as a changeup, not a weekly event.

I get the argument for the same purse concept in pro tennis, but it doesn't work in pro golf.
