Vickery Cafe, next on 7th.

Quote

Vickery Blvd. Cafe, a 20-year landmark frequently listed among the “best breakfast” restaurants in Fort Worth, will move off West Seventh Street near downtown this fall, owner Curtis James confirmed Wednesday.

Vickery Blvd. Cafe, currently at 4120 W. Vickery Blvd., is moving into a vacant space in the So7 shops, 2421 W. Seventh St., across from Trinity Park and the LeftBank shops and apartments. It will be called Vickery Cafe.

The new location actually faces Matisse Drive behind a Chuy’s Tex-Mex. It was originally a location of the Max’s Wine Dive chain.

The cafe has been unable to reach a new lease agreement for its current location, James said.

The current Vickery has been an operating cafe for 50 years. It was originally named Burdav’s.

The new location will add beer, wine and mimosas for Vickery’s busy brunch crowd, James said. It will continue to serve a similar menu of breakfasts, burgers and lunch specials.

He plans to move in November, James said.

  • Ugh. When I first moved here in 2010 they used to have an old Expedition that neighbors would volunteer to drive around the neighborhood all weekend with a "SECURITY" sticker on it. Fucking stupid.

I walked by earlier today and can confirm that there was a TABC sign outside. Also the daiquiri place across the street was moving out.

FWISD board just came out of executive session and accepted the voluntary resignation of the Superintendent with a settlement (buy out) 8-1. What a hot mess.

What signs are you referring to?

Campaign yard signs.  They were stuck along Roaring Springs near Shady Oaks for the event.  Should be gone now

If I had a $20 bill for every time someone hit my fire truck or almost hit us, I wouldn’t be a dipshit fireman anymore. People fucking suck

It’s a new trend in the last 4-5 years. Irving started it, then Dallas and Carrollton followed suit. Then FW. Problem is operational cost. The bean counters and council don’t want to fund that position, but then they’ll shell out 7 figures in death and dismemberment when a guy gets hit on the highway. Or 6 figures to fix the frontline fire truck that got tagged. Then all the sudden they’re concerned with our safety.

Allegedly there was a drive by shooting on Crestline across from Rivercrest last night, no one was hit. I have not seen it in the media yet.

I too love bean nachos with sour cream, guacamole, & japs.

Fits right in with Johnson County.

The world's largest operating steam locomotive will be in Fort Worth through the weekend.

Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014 will chug into Fort Worth on Wednesday night.

The 133-foot-long and 1.2 million pound black locomotive, will be on display at 275 W. Lancaster Avenue from Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Admission to the event is free.

The City of Fort Worth suggests parking at the Convention Center Parking Garage at 1200 Houston Street.

The train will be a part of a private Union Pacific event on Saturday and the locomotive will leave Fort Worth on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 8 a.m.

Big Boy made a stop in Dallas last month, but only for a private event.

The stops are a part of the Big Boy Heartland of America Tour, which takes the train through 10 states.

You can track the engine's current location on Union Pacific's website.

25 "Big Boys" were built during World War II, but only eight survived. No. 4014 is the only one in operation.

30 and University has lanes shut down and should be avoided at all costs!

World of Beer reopening 12/10. We'll see if anyone cares.
https://worldofbeer.com/locations/fort-worth/
It says "New Location" but still has the same address? I drive by there pretty often and I haven't seen any activity. They are finally working Chipotle for those that care.

My only trip to that location was for 3 tacos & a Heath Blizzard.

Few months ago, DQ was advertising BOGO Blizzards all over every platform. Shit, that sounds good. Downloaded the app, did all the shit, tried to checkout, no dice. Figured the shit was just glitching that night, so called 'em up. "Only apps we accept are DoorDash & UberEats". Well, fuck you very much, I certainly don't need a Blizzard delivered.

And now it's a nice empty building.

I guess it’s been a slow burn for DQ. The one in Knox City closed in the late 90’s. Then when I was in high school in the early 00’s Abilene lost 4 of their 5 in about a year and a half. A couple years ago the one in Azle shut down. Stopped into DQ in Dalhart back in January and the sign on the door said closed until further notice. But there’s a taco casa on every corner. It ain’t right!

Dutch Coffee replaced the DQ in Azle.

Get your ass to 225° BBQ in Arlington. It's been about year since I last hit them up. The trailer in DWG.

This place is easily in my top 5 for DFW.

The lean was tender AF. Ribs were perfectly cooked with a sweetness, a lil more pepper would've been nicer. You really can't mess up pork belly. Green beans and potatoes well seasoned. Legit street corn. And those mothereffin tortillas! Made want to cry. Soft and moist.

stephan Pyles returning to the life with a fancy joint attached to an old roadside motel restored to a $349 night boutique lodge in Stephenville.  The Seeker.  Menu has some of his old reliable signature dishes.  Missing is my favorite of his which was the tamale tart with garlic custard and a mountain of crabmeat.

We returned to Texas in 86 and it was a magical time for Texas dining.  We had cutting edge Texas chefs inventing this “Southwest cuisine” on a daily basis.  Stephan Pyles had RouthStreet Cafe and Baby Routh, Dean Fearing was at Mansion on Turtle Creek, Robert Del Grande at Cafe Annie, the Rathbun Brothers, the list was long and exciting.

Was nearby and we stopped in.  They had a deal with the brisket burger, 2 birria tacos, a side for $22.  Also got a couple Twinkies and 3 shrimp tacos.
the burger rocked.  Would have liked some yella mustard on it.  The birria tacos were great.  The stuffed jalapeños were huge, and the shrimp tacos loaded with fat 16-25 cleaned shrimp.  The only loser was the green spaghetti.  Mushy noodles and bland sauce.

if you’re around check it out.  He needs the business; I question that new location.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had a chili cheeseburger from River Oaks Grumps today, that shit was good. Only problem is they don’t have any plates or silverware, all paper & plastic. That’s kind of annoying.

Found myself driving around the shit show that’s university village. They totally ripped out the section next to eatzis… Apple decided to move across the center. Crazy shit

Haven’t been over there since they ran off Breadwinner’s and McKinley’s.

Breadwinners was awful and that was like 6 years ago.

Not Fort Worth, but as close as you’ll get. City of Aledo chose not to annex this portion of 20 and 1187/3325 and Willow Park jumped on it.

This is the SW corner. There’s also a plan for the NE corner to be anchored by a Home Depot or Lowes along with retail/restaurants

I ate there this weekend.  I liked it.  The counter makes it easy to eat if you are by youself.

They just had a hell of a benefit show for him a couple weeks ago at Billy Bob’s. The lineup was insane, but like every other fucking time something cool came up in the last decade, I was at work.

Attention H‑E‑B shoppers, the store extension in Hudson Oaks is nice. There’s actually room between aisles now. Shit has moved around a little but not too bad.

It’s been finished on the inside for almost a month now. The contractor for the exterior work…..well let’s just say this was their first and last HEB project.

I bought the boudin poppers a long time ago and put them in the freezer for at least six month. Thawed and smoked them and they were fuckin tasty. Would imagine their regular jap poppers to be the same
