Anytime I get shit for less than 3% I’m taking it.  My money does much better than 3%.  And not talking about shit under 50k.

Even at a 3%, on 50k, your effective interest rate charge in year 1 is 15% on a 5 year note.  Would take until year 3 to get under 10% effective interest rate.

Cole Haan is giving away the store for those that are interested. At least 50% off of some nice shoes.

On this note, DSW is doing 40% off the whole site (off already-discounted prices), including a lot of Cole Haan and Johnston & Murphy options. Free shipping too. Up your business casual game!

Retail sales down 8.7% overall in March. Worst monthly decline ever.

"Auto and auto parts" sector down 27.1%.

"Clothing and Accessories" sector down 50.5%.

Prices gonna have to start coming down, down, down.

That’s a traditional note.  I take money against pledged assets w the bank.  I’m pretty sure my effective rate is very close to 3%.  I think 2013 was last time I got a car with the stealership line of credit.  What all do they hit you with making year 1 15%?  I definitely believe it but don’t know what all they are tacking on.

I’m waiting to get a new vehicle (used is ok too). Not urgent but before the end of the year.  When is the consensus that it drops far enough?

In the market for a 1-2 year old sedan for the wife. (No pictures ya filthy animals). Has anybody bought in the last few weeks from a dealer and how did “negotiations” go? Thinking about getting serious about this in 4-5 weeks and maybe dealers will start to get serious. What say the Surly car gurus?

Wait 2-3 more months if you can as used cars are stacking up from leases are still ending but there are no buyers. Add to that repos will start happening in this mess.

Just ran through this.  If it’s compounding annually pretty straight forward.  Not saying I don’t believe you, just not seeing it on my loans running a quick calculation.  Other than shitty fees that can make it balloon but I don’t have those...

Remember the automakers are not producing cars now so there may not be as much of a glut as some expect.  Plus the Vette C8s and Teslas of the world don’t discount much if at all.

Brooks Bros is still sticking to their guns. 30% off across the board. I’ll regret it in a couple week when prices drop, but I squeezed the trigger on two Performance Series polos at $48.50. Best fitting, most comfortable polo I’ve ever owned.

Nordstrom’s 40% Off Sale looks pretty decent, but I don’t really need anything.

In yalls opinion, is now the right time to buy a new car, or should I wait another month or 2?

By watching their ads they aren’t desperate yet. Their “deals” are shit now. I never look at any of their finance options so only look at price. Depending on your situation that might be different.

Wait - I see a couple dealerships out of the big cities dropping prices, but they aren't desperate yet.  I am going to see how low they drop.  I am waiting too.

In yalls opinion, is now the right time to buy a new car, or should I wait another month or 2?
Some news has been trickling out about a future junker program coming out to help the auto manufacturers. How old is the vehicle you're replacing?

they're not hungry enough yet

Few cars are still being built so new isn't stacking up enough for dealers and makers to get drastic.  Used cars are stacking up from leases ending and no buyers. Used market likely gets a bunch of repos as well in about 90 days.

If you can wait, the end of September should be good for a deal on 2020 models.  Dealer's quarterly money factor coming due and 2021s arriving. June will be telling as the end of June is the next time dealers have to pay the interest on their loans for their inventory.

Good deal here. I might get one for just the same reason. I have several of the non-screen ones... are the one with the screen much more useful?

Imo, yes. Work great as desk clocks and a photo frame. Can show you the weather when you ask, displays song and album info, and sometimes lyrics when playing music, can display recipes when you ask it.

Downside for this version is maybe the speaker. I think it's somewhere between the home mini and home in quality while the hub max is a little better than the regular home. Also comes with no camera but that's actually a plus if you're not using it to video chat.

I need to buy a care by EOY for business. Kinda timely post. Oldest I would want is 2019, needs to be new model year for work. Hoping to find a screaming deal, so let the repos flow.

Cole Haan dale is up to 60% off now, but their more popular styles are 30% off. It was fun while it lasted. Picked up a pair of loafers for $90 off and free shipping last week.

Kind of baffling Tecovas hasn’t put anything on sale. Those new brick and mortar stores must be expensive.

April 2020 was the worst month of auto sales in 30+ years. Estimated 50% drop in sales from April 2019.

Part of me is glad. Running prices up consumers asses for years now

Still don’t see any good deals on cars.  Patient bear will wait.

Yep,  best to wait.

Don't know,  but with the factories closed dealers likely not motivated to move inventory except with extended financing incentives close to msrp.   Most factories due to open in May.

I doubt you’ll see anything special until the end of the year or even beginning of 2021, if it happens. Should depend on how much inventory is left when it’s time for the 2021 models to take over.

They make for a nice little mini YouTubeTV as well.

I have been in the market for a car the past 18 months. Went early last year and the best they could do for a 2017 corolla with low miles was 16k. I wanted 10.5k out the door and when the manager came out and said they could go 250 dollars lower at 15750 I laughed and said we are about 6k off in negotiating and left with my family. Told them I would wait until the next recession to buy.

Started fishing around dealerships again last month.  Told them I would do 10.5k out the door for a 2017 corolla and the best they could do was 13k. I politely told them they could go fuck themselves (in my head) as they have bent over consumers for years. That they need to stop negotiating like its 2019 ( I really did say that.) Finally said to no less than 3 dealerships I'll be back in a few months to see if they're ready to actually make a deal that's fair to the consumer. I'm a patient man and dont mind the wait at all. My 2007 corolla runs like a dream.

Another 18 months and they will bite on that offer no doubt

Maybe scout the food bank lines in the meantime, deals to be had there

I need to but new tires for my 4x4 SUV soon. Should I wait hoping the prices are slashed or will there be scarcity of supply soon due to manufacturing supply chains being interrupted.

whatever you do look at tirerack for prices, can use them to negotiate against whoever. got a pretty nice deal at Discount Tire this way...

Discount Tire in particular makes a point to try and match everyone, so if you find a better price anywhere, even if rebate or special promo, bring it in and ask.

Update:

There are some deals starting to trickle in if you stand your ground and not be afraid to walk away initially. Just bought a 2016 Corolla with 44k miles for 10.2k out the door. Clean title. Includes all taxes title fees etc. Couldnt get the 2017 but I think I got a good deal. $9600 was the purchase price for the car. Next step is to sell my 2007 corolla with 86k miles. Should be able to get around 4k for it since Ill sell it online. Dealerships were willing to buy it for $1500. Again they can go fuck themselves. After everything is done Im hopeful this will be a net 6k purchase.

Feels good.

  • 1 year later...

Just wait for those car deals guys!!
