The guy that held out for 100k at the very beginning got it. And speaking of money, I just do not understand the economics of streaming. Between insane prize money being thrown around like candy, complex sets and games, thousands of cameras and dozens of support staff, how much money is this costing? How in the hell does Amazon turn a profit? I actually looked this up, and to my astonishment, the production cost is in the ~100MM range, but it seems to be Mr Beast's investment. I don't know how that's possible, but it is a fascinatingly stupid experiment.

How much does MrBeast earn a year? $700M a year MrBeast earns a huge amount of money every year from his various business ventures — up to $700M a year, according to CNBC
January 17Jan 17 Yea I thought Mr beast paid for this mostly. Dude makes stupid money and now has candy and energy drinks and shit.

January 19Jan 19 I've only watched the first one but Southland is exactly what I was going to say the vibe reminded me of. Southland was a really good show.
January 30Jan 30 So Prime is releasing a new series next month based on the story of King David called "House of David." If it sticks to scripture, it has the potential to be as violent and salacious as anything HBO has ever put out.
January 31Jan 31 Tom Green show was seminal to me during my early teenage years. Love the documentary; put me back in that era 25 years ago.
January 31Jan 31 You're Cordially Invited was not terrible. I had very low expectations going in and it managed to exceed them. I wouldn't recommend watching alone but if the wife/gf wants to watch it, you could do worse.
February 2Feb 2 I felt like there should have been even at least another 20 minutes of The Patriot. I needed closure.
February 2Feb 2 Pretty wild Beast Games episode in regards to people taking their share of the $$. I laughed my ass off at the one dude.
February 2Feb 2 Almost none of them treat it like the competition that it is. The odds of winning the $5M is tiny, so any time they can maximize what they can take off the table guaranteed, they should. The people who turned down $1M are morons.

Yeah it's a bizarre, stupid, sometimes fascinating social experiment putting these morons in situations where they have to decide between different sums of money now and screwing over their peers and a possibility of more money later. The ones that honor an unofficial contract to be fair and get everyone through to the end always end up looking dumb when one player does a little risk-reward analysis and takes the money. We keep remarking on how obvious it is that they had no idea how to make a reality show. We barely know the contestants and don't care at all who wins, it's just interesting enough seeing them screw each other over or sometimes illogically make some altruistic choice and end up with nothing.

It’s a fascinating show. Folks are just 3 digit numbers, they do something dramatic, and then gone and forgotten. Most interesting is how folks confuse a game focused on greed and make it a virtue exhibition. As the game has progressed it’s been entertaining to watch as certain players have built cults of personality. How some are vilified for taking big prizes and some are congratulated. How previous altruism like the dude who turned down almost a million to not whack his group was later lynched. The group is getting ugly as they are down to that final crew. They wanted to kill the dude that took $650k and ignored the one previous that took $223k. if there’s a second season it would be interesting who signs up and how they play.
February 2Feb 2 2 episodes into On Call. Loving it and, yesh, definitely has the Southland vibe. But WhyTF half hour episodes?!

February 5Feb 5 I can only imagine how lost I'd be on the new version. When they updated the first Trivial Pursuit last century, I went from a killer player to a dumbass. Demoralizing.
February 8Feb 8 In looking for fill in brainless junk to watch, I found My Kitchen Rules AUwith over 400 eps and the UK version with several seasons. And 16 seasons of 24 Hours in A&E which is an UK ER reality.

Just caught up on this show the last 10 days or so...dude went at Deano for trying to save his ass by taking some innocent pawn down with him. but when it comes to getting out of his mortgage, "putting his family first", and debt...he took the lions share of the free money leaving the rest with scraps.. what a fucking twat. at least the tatooed face guy who did the push ups, and hanging challenges had merit on taking more money than he shouldve, $223,000 was fair IMO.
February 9Feb 9 The virtue signaling on this show is crazy. It’s a game; the goal is to survive in order to win. I imagine on subsequent seasons there will be murders on this show.
February 12Feb 12 I'm starting Battlestar Galactica with the 2003 mini series. I've watched this, but it's probably been 10-15 years ago.

The first couple of seasons were just fucking amazing. Game of Thrones gets a lot of credit for the "prestige TV" label these days, but Battlestar Galactica, Rome, and From the Earth to the Moon really primed things for what we now have.

February 15Feb 15 Every once in a while we watch Inspector Morse Endeavor on Prime. It's one of the best British detective series I've seen and it's not old (2013-2023) so the picture is quality. Bonus - the only ad on Prime is a 15 second blip at the start of the show. I wasn't sure about it after watching Ep. 1 (seemed too slow) but I'm glad to have gone past. "Fresh out of Oxford University, a young detective constable faces the harsh realities of 1960s England while solving a string of complex cases using nothing but his keen intellect and unwavering determination." I really appreciate you posting this. I enjoyed Endeavor a great deal and wanted to go back and watch some of the Morse series, but at that time no one was carrying them. I guess there's just so much content it's hard for them to effectively let people know what's in their current libraries. And I noticed the past few years that quite a few movies and series move from platform to platform. Black Sails comes to mind, having started on Prime and Starz, now it's making its run on Netflix. But again, thanks for the heads up!

February 20Feb 20 Behind but wife and I started On Call.Birth felt it was part Southland, Bosch, End of Watch. Also chuckled that the lead female cop is nepo baby of Donald P Bellisario.3 episodes in and liking it but the 30min episodes always end jarringly.
February 27Feb 27 Wife and I watched The Escape Artist. Good lawyer/murder/trial mini series. Some of my favorite UK actors: David Tennant, Ashley Jensen, Sophie Okonedo, Anton Lesser, Stephen Wight. Good watch if you like that genre.

It pretty much sucks so far. There was no way I could watch another Ep after the first one( in one sitting.) It was plodding and even boring at times.

May 2May 2 Another Simple Favor is the worst movie I’ve seen in 20 years. Blake Lively is legitimately fucking crazy. Stay strong out there dudes with wives/girlfriends. Mow the yard, take a nap, go for a run, walk the dogs, run an errand. Don’t watch this movie.
May 3May 3 ^^^ No chance I'm ever watching that shit, but you would have thought that Lively/Reynolds would used every last ounce of their remaining clout to delay the release of a movie where she portrays a scheming, vindictive, two-faced, crazy lady.
May 3May 3 Sorry, I already watched it. I’ll watch anything with Anna Kendrick in it. She’s my perfect woman.

May 4May 4 Kendrick is funnier and hotter. Lively really irritated me in that movie. Somewhere under there Kendrick has a great rack. Edited May 4May 4 by Ghost of NMAS
