October 13, 20187 yr New York to Singapore, depending on which direction you’re heading NY to SP is an hour longer than vice versa. It ranges from 17.5 to 18.5 hours. New super duel efficient aircraft make it possible. These aircraft are also much quieter. I’m afraid I would go nuts cooped up that long. https://apple.news/A_kmJ8QThTzqeAqB7iINbFA

October 13, 20187 yr never tried a flight that long. i think i would enjoy it. between meals and movies, i usually sleep 4 hours on a 10 hour flight. with a 15+ hour, i could get a legit sleep, and power through more catch-up movies, emails, and books
October 14, 20187 yr Did DFW to Hong Kong and doing return today. 16:30 to get here. In AA's sweet 777 business class pod/seats. With some wine and a whiskey, pretty sure I got pretty good 8 hours sleep plus a couple of movies on the outbound. Didn't bother me a bit. Only 14:40 to get back.
October 14, 20187 yr If you’re in F it’s fun, in J it’s bearable, in Y it sucks. Luckily, SQ’s aircraft on this route doesn’t have a traditional Y. Only premium economy. Longest flight I’ve ever done in Y is BOS-HKG. It SUCKED (and I had an exit row). On the other hand, I flew DEL-ORD in J and it wasn’t bad. Done Europe-East Coast many times in Y and it’s not too bad, especially going east.
October 14, 20187 yr Yep class of service makes a world of difference. Anything over 6 hrs in Y, fuck that. I would gladly do this flight in J and no hesitation it in F. Anyone who has done several of these long haul flights usually has a system that works for them and can make 14 hrs feel like 5....in the right seat.

Did it LAX-NRT and back two years ago This year did Rome-CLT on the Airbus. Not nearly as comfortable as the 777.
October 14, 20187 yr i actually enjoy the 15+ hr flights. my kids love them. pretty much unfettered ipad time til they drop and then cup noodles whenever they want.
October 14, 20187 yr Bunch of betas up in here, cuz anyone over 160 cm never enjoys being crammed in a metal tube for longer than an hour.

Yeah, even the fancy classes just make it bearable for a six footer. I have ulnar nerve damage from coach from Seoul. F that in the A.
October 14, 20187 yr Ever since they introduced layflats and pods/aisle access in J, it's the same as F to me. OK you don't get pyjamas or airport escort or caviar service, but for actual comfort I'm all set.

I had a 6500 dollar F ticket this spring from IAD to LHR. The real F seats are CX and QR. Even EK has a marginal seat, though the doors make up for it a bit. My wife and I can literally sit comfortably side by side in a CX F seat. It's the size of a standard love seat in someone's house.

October 15, 20187 yr DFW to LAX to Sydney once. Coach. Got food poisoning the day before the return trip. That was fun. Recently, DWF to Tokyo, then down to Ho Chi Minh. Also coach. Next to a small toddler. First class home on Cathay Pacific, which did help this time.
October 15, 20187 yr The last Y flight I had was DFW to NRT, back in 2011 maybe. Only missed upgrade ever as an ExPlat. Luckily was able to get row 22 on the 772, which was basically unlimited legroom.

That is strong. The longest mile run I ever did was EYW to ORF, via SFO, LAX and DFW one year when I got caught a few miles short in December.
October 16, 20187 yr I would have had to have been tranquilized and stuffed in the overhead. How many miles was that?
October 16, 20187 yr I did coach (is that Y?) JFK to NRT to Denpasar once. 15 hours of misery only to be followed up with another 8 hours of coach hell. I will say, I got premium economy on Cathay on my trip home from SE Asia, and it was better than bareable. I slept pretty well after a scotch and a benedryl.

I'd rather spend 3 days doing pretty much anything else besides that. You logged a lot of terminal time too. How'd you spend that day in Sao Paolo?

They actually make you get on the plane to rack up the miles? Are they not open to something logical like "hey I need to log 10000 miles but I don't want to sit in the plane for 10000 miles, how about I just pay for ticket, you give me the miles and we go on our way without the charade, then you actually save the couple bucks in peanuts and fuel costs of flying my fat ass around, plus you can also resell the seat I won't be in. "

How'd you spend that day in Sao Paolo? Had lunch at fogo de chao - the original location, where Bush Sr visited - then checked in a hotel for a quick nap. Longest time spent was actually 3.5 hrs in fucking traffic going back to the airport.

" It was a complete lark. Made 1K but the next year I moved away from the UA network so I didn't use the automatic shorthaul ugrade priority, and bought my own tickets for longhauls and so didn't use the longhaul coupons either. Completely wasted.
October 16, 20187 yr I flew from Taipei to Amsterdam about 30 years ago. We made stops in HK, Tehran? and Cairo. Never allowed to leave the plane. I was in first class, but it was still miserable.

October 16, 20187 yr Friend of mine is South African. When his parents moved back to the States, they flew the wrong way around the world to get here to save like 50 bucks. Y the whole way, took like 44 hours or something stupid.
