Made myself a cheat sheet ... these values are for my location specifically (Dripping Springs).

Hoping for a continued thinning of that damned coastal flow.

Now I need to set my watch with the atomic clock....

I went ahead and put on my protection classes at 6 am. Since then I’ve been running with scissors, bunge jumping, and running in traffic. It’s awesome to be able to do things with no fear of injury.

Me site.

Used the "Solar Eclipse Timer" app and created this myself so that I didn't have to keep looking things up.

Now my actual question:  in Austin, how long is the "slightly dark -> dark -> slightly dark" cycle expected to last?

Useful site that lets you click anywhere to see details:

For the Memorial Stadium:   1 minute 49 sec of darkness

We're shutting down the pharmacy for an hour around the eclipse and taking bets on how many missed calls we get around totality. I'm betting we get at least 2 or 3. Believe it or not there are people in DFW who have no idea a total solar eclipse is happening today

There are a lot more than just don’t give a shit about it either. I would know

Just got sunny in Flower Mound after an hour or so of thick cloud cover. 2.5 hours left for the clouds to hold out.

Folks out in Marble Falls might get lucky and catch part of the 50-mile-wide gap in the clouds that is near Fredericksburg right now, but everyone else in Cen Tex looks out of luck.

So ~ 2 hours 40 minutes for the total event, maybe 2-3 minutes in totality.

One thing is for certain, I will be cracking a few beers here shortly out in the backyard.  Whether I see the sun or not, who knows.  But I will certainly be at peace.

It would be ironic - or something - if the sun burned off the clouds, but then the eclipse cooled things off, allowing clouds to form again, only to have the sun burn the clouds off again after the eclipse.

I'll neg myself.

Hoping for this. We can see the sun through the clouds now in patches. Hopefully we catch a break.

Just checked the site posted above, it looks like my mother will be getting over 4 minutes of totality.

I mean, c'mon.

A two-fer?

So wait, is the eclipse happening because I touch myself at night?  Or are the clouds somewhat fading because I didn't touch myself this morning?  I need answers!

At a doc appt at Presby Dallas and seeing a little blue in the skies! C’mon, baby!

Motherfucker! Warn a guy to put on his eclipse glasses first. It's common courtesy.

Clouds came back with a vengeance for me south of Austin. T minus 1.5 hours to main event. Bummer.

Took some test photos at noon today.  Used a 10 stop ND filter on a 70-200 and 100-500 lens.  Couple taken with a tripod, couple without.  Shutter speeds varied.  Now, let's hope the cloud cover isn't a thing on Monday:

I figured. I'll give you a 5% royalty on rep.

Pretty clear here in Wise County. Not in the Path of Totality, but we're supposed to be 99%. Does this make me Surly 1%? Can I speak to a manager?

You say this, but I can tell you that my MIL asked me last night, in all seriousness, if she needed to get some eclipse glasses to watch the event on TV?

I just took a look outside. Nothing to see but a big blanket of clouds. No visible blue sky.

Thanks Obama.

Proving an MIL is/was someone's wife.

I flipped on that NASA youtube stream of eclipse coverage, and the host goes, about all the large gatherings of people, "it's kind of like a sporting event. So let me ask you, who's the GOAT today, the moon or the sun?"...

I now hate eclipses.

Unlocked the gun safe and staged the food buckets. And you fuckers laughed...

You can't stop it, you can only hope to contain it.
