All the WORP, RPM, OBPM, win shares, adjusted wins--crap that I can't even begin to tell you how they calculate--does nothing for me. But the player tracking stuff is really cool. You can actually see the quality of looks that a team gets with one of their players on/off the floor based on the nearest defender and location of those shots. How opposing players shoot with so-and-so as their nearest defender. Hustle stats like shot contests and deflections that don't show up in a normal box score. You can watch a Wizards game, note that Wall doesn't seem like he runs a lot, and quickly learn that only Dirk Nowitzki spends more time walking or standing still on a basketball court. Etc. Like with anything, you're subject to your own confirmation bias, but player tracking seems to have less room for interpretation. Sorry if that seems like it was directed at you. It wasn't. I agree with the fact that some stats are an eye opener to what's going on out there. My point was that is you are trying to run an offense with Steph and two Robersons the statistics change drastically. Suddenly Steph's shoting percentage goes down because teams will gladly leave Andre wide open to come get the ball out of Steph's hands. Andre's shooting percentage would not go up, as demonstrated by when he ws getting wide open looks playing next to KD and Russ. Point is, Klay is actually the perfect person to play next to Steph because he can shoot the lights out, bt if you close out to hard he will go right by you and finish. He also has a solid mid range game to boot.

November 21, 20187 yr Anytime ESPN wants to mandate an automatic firing for any talking head who makes the annual "this college football/basketball team du jour would beat Cleveland/Brooklyn/whomever" hot take, they may regain my business.
November 21, 20187 yr Holy shit people still bring up that tired argument? Duke has what, 3 players ready for the NBA right now? Cleveland has a whole roster full. I don't think many realize just how good even the very end of the bench NBA players are compared to amateur players. Cleveland would crush them by any score they wanted. It wouldn't even be a game. Cleveland's bench would school Duke. But I get it is all for shock value. Same as could Bama beat the worst NFL team. Same concept. Bama has just a handful of guys right now that would play in the NFL this year. Buffalo has 53. Silly shit. The sad thing is, reading some comments around these arguments, there are people who legitimately believe this. I wish the leagues would do it one day. I know the Allstars of college played the NFL back in the 60s or 70s.

I know the Allstars of college played the NFL back in the 60s or 70s. The annoying part is that it's Jay Williams making the argument. He knows better. He was a GREAT college basketball player on a GREAT college basketball team. Two player of the year awards, hitting threes from 7 feet behind the line before it was cool, basically destroying the competition. His only year in the NBA he averaged 9 points on sub 40% shooting (32% from 3). It takes time. Rookies who come in as polished and ready as Tatum and AD are extremely rare. Shit, how much do you think Kyle Korver would LOVE to play against any basic college defense (obviously can't play zone) after 15 years of honing his craft at the highest level?
November 21, 20187 yr UNLV circa 1992 is the only college team that I would ever consider as capable of competing with an nba team, and they would lose because they had no bench.
November 21, 20187 yr 20 minutes ago, Underdog said: ‘91? The year they went undefeated in the regular season and lost to Duke in the tournament. Anthony/Hunt/Augmon/Johnson/Scurry (???) was pretty fucking stout, and they were all upperclassmen.
November 21, 20187 yr That would be 90-91 season, 91-92 was Duke’s B2B year. Yeah, that was a helluva good UNLV Team.

November 22, 20187 yr Celtics dying slowly. How long will the "they will mesh soon, just wait" excuse last? Brandon Ingram - first time I've paid attention to his game. He's horrible. Listless, talentless garbage. He has no game at all, no moves, can't do anything well. Why is he on the floor Luke!?

Boston didn't miss him at all. Utah didn't miss a beat without him. People acted like Boston was going to be so much better once he got back but I never saw it or thought he was some big game changer. They play better as a unit without Kyrie and Hayward.

Ok, yeah, they still don't need to panic, but ANY time you lose to the Knicks at home it's cause for concern. And for the best defense in the league, the next scoring guard they hold in check may be the first. Dudes have been having some career nights. 8 hours ago, NowThis said: Brandon Ingram - first time I've paid attention to his game. He's horrible. Listless, talentless garbage. Hayward is a really good basketball player. But he had an awful injury and a setback over the summer, and only started playing with contact again in like September. He clearly looks rusty and doesn't trust his body yet. I thought Boston would start out slow (most did)--not this slow, obviously--as they tried to integrate Hayward. He'll either play himself back into shape and gain confidence eventually, or he still won't be 100%, and they'll reduce his minutes/role. But they don't need to make that decision right now. He's not to type to cause friction; he'd understand if his body still isn't right. Edited November 22, 20187 yr by aggie08
November 22, 20187 yr Also, the reason that Utah "didn't miss a beat without him" is because they drafted Donovan Mitchell, and he turned out to be the steal of the draft. Without Hayward AND Mitchell, they'd be among the worst offenses in the league.

Beasley? Boston has lost 7 of the last 10 and some games were blowouts. Stevens was quoted as saying the team has several issues. It's a diseased team at this point. Of course improvement is possible but i have doubts. For the Lakers, I'd go smal. Too bad Rondo is out otherwise he should be featured with big minutes with Ball, Kuzma, Lebron and Javale. That's their best 5. BTW, Javale is a goof, but he's quite athletic and finishes at the rim among the best I've ever seen. His line is frequently 6-8, 10 of 12 etc. Lots of other bigs in the league cannot close the deal at the rim. Even Lebron can't do it like Javale; liked his game from the Denver days. He's also an incredible shot blocker, very clutch in that area, not just meaningless blocks but blocks during crunch time (wish there was a stat for that).
November 22, 20187 yr Watched OKC for the first time last night. The supporting cast looks much better than last year. Schroder is a good addition and the other pieces look better. Westbrook and George (to a lesser degree) still have horrible shot selection, though. Defense will be even better once Roberson comes back but he's so abysmal on offense that it's almost a net wash. Granted, GS had a lot of injuries but OKC looked a lot better.
November 22, 20187 yr GSW bench is not what it has been. They should be praying that Cousins is effective in the second half of the season.

Even Iggy and Livingston are not what they were in years past. The new guys are trash and they really miss Javale down low and shot blocking. We'll see in March.
November 22, 20187 yr Nobody talking about the Spurs getting hosed last night by the refs. That was straight bush league. Fuck Marc Gasol. Hope we can get a 20-30 game losing streak going imo... Thunder look better, but i don't trust WB not to ballhog it up and ruin them in the playoffs. Also the Warriors just look so lethargic right now. Who knows if this whole KD being a bitch thing is finally fucking with them but i just don't trust it, i think they'll still get rolling for the playoffs. Lakers man.....learning how to win close ones, i like them right now. Always a fun watch. And lol at Boston, probably coulda traded for Kawhi and didn't. Kyrie seems like a team cancer. Bill Simmons dumb ass predicted this team would win 67 games and go Warriors on it, resting everyone for a lot of 4th quarters. Fuck that city, i hope the Pats/Sox/Celtics all go another 100 years without winning shit. Edited November 22, 20187 yr by Pam Cummings
