October 31, 20187 yr Think they wrote and recorded it in Austin. I could pick about 10 Schneider songs and another 10 Patty Griffin songs.. but I'll go with Changing Your Mind from Bob, since she sings harmony on it. Their voices together on that track are incredible and Bob's last verse is so great.
November 1, 20187 yr Always been a huge Zeitgeist/Reivers fan. Especially when Kim and John trade vocals.
November 1, 20187 yr As an aside, I've had the tab on that since it came out in whatever magazine at the time. Still can't get it right. These fat fingers don't go there.
November 1, 20187 yr Man, Tapatalk is screwy with exiting posts with YouTube links. I dunno which one that ended up over. Was supposed to be regarding JJWs version of L.A. Freeway.
November 2, 20187 yr Author dcbc, that's a great tune by Wrenfro. When I closed down my little studio I sold Tony my old Yamaha upright piano. He had taught himself to play on it -- I used to wander out there and catch him playing Bach & Mozart etudes. He learned very quickly. (No surprise.)

January 21, 20196 yr So much great Austin music in this thread. I've been away for a while but it's nice to come back and see all of this. Here's another one.
January 21, 20196 yr If you aren't familiar with Mike McCoy, check him out. He's always got a fistful of bands going, like the Service Industry, the American People, Tontine and his current collective, Trompe l'Oeil, who just guested on KUTX last week.
January 21, 20196 yr Jaimee Harris is starting to blow up nationwide. She's an absolute must-see whenever she's back in town, but she's touring the US and Europe a lot right now.
January 21, 20196 yr Author Tune opens with a little echo of Pink Floyd . . . I feel like I've heard her before . . . pretty blunt lyrics. I like it.

Neon Indian is not Austin. And wow... none of this? I mean they're the biggest band from Austin, right? And Gary is from Austin: Oh also these guys: Edited January 21, 20196 yr by ztejas
January 21, 20196 yr Author I'm a huge Spoon fan, and that's probably my favorite track of theirs. It always felt like it had a bit of a Stones vibe, in Spoon's own angular, ultracool way.

Pretty rare for a band to knock it out of the park like that so far into their career. This shit is pretty great too:
January 21, 20196 yr Author Ah, the rare Spoon cover. I'm very partial to this track, partially because I was . . . involved:

And that's not even including the radio-friendly shit that I don't like as much like "The Underdog". This came across my Spotify radio yesterday and I was on board immediately
January 21, 20196 yr Author There's a reason Spoon has so many great songs: Britt and Jim are naturally talented, but more than that, they're both incredibly fucking smart.
June 25, 20196 yr Bumped. My brother recently blew my mind up with this Fastball song that I hadn't heard in 20 years:
June 25, 20196 yr Author I think that was the only Fastball "hit" that Miles wrote. Everything else was Tony's. I can't say specifically how much friction that caused, but it was more than "none".
June 25, 20196 yr Can't find it posted on YT or anything, but I always thought "Wine From A Bottle" by Neal Kassanoff was a fucking cool song

It got filed away in some dusty corner of my brain during the transition from my early 20's to now early 40's... really good song.

If I were in a band with another songwriter, and we wrote independently, I would hope that every single song that fucking guy wrote would go straight to number 1. But, that's just me.

June 26, 20196 yr Might as well knock it out of the park with the first song on your first album released last week. The album is fanfuckingtastic.

Came here to post about them. I've been playing that record constantly since last Friday. There are a few live performances of "Fire" out there that are awesome.
