When we get one down the road we will keep the original so both kids have something on trips. Well I don’t have kids. So the idea of knocking a guaranteed $125 off the price before the market is flooded with used Switch 1s is appealing. And knowing my saves on Zelda and ACNH will transfer over. Plus the new NSO+ will have Game Cube games. Exclusive for Switch 2, the Switch 1 cant handle them. Also switch 1 joycons will be wirelessly compatible with switch 2, but you can’t charge them on the switch 2.

Still a shitty thing to do for what will probably be the most begged-for title for the coming year (unless Pokemon beats it). 1 hour ago, Js1 said: Well I don’t have kids. Agree with those points, although I have a $10 joycon charger from Amazon that charges all four joycons at the same time, so not worried. It'll even plug into my power bank I have for my laptop.
April 3Apr 3 It Takes 50 Hours to Earn the Right to Preorder a Switch 2 From Nintendo | Lifehacker Quote This is a first come, first served program, so the sooner you are able to register, the better your chance of being selected. On top of that, this...let's call it a "purchasing opportunity" is only open to registrants who have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription with at least 12 months of paid service. But the requirement that seems most out of left field to me is this: You also need to have at least 50 hours of gameplay associated with the Nintendo Account you use to register, as of April 2, 2025. If you don't meet any of these criteria, you'll be put on an overflow list. Nintendo will only start sending invites to members of this waitlist once the registrants who meet the requirements have all been invited. Quote Fifty hours of gameplay is a bizarre requirement (can't I just give you money, Nintendo?) but you can see the company's reasoning. As a mega-hyped piece of hardware, the Switch 2 is a prime target for scalpers. By setting strict requirements for who can register for an invitation to purchase one (and by limiting each registration to one console purchase) Nintendo is trying to ensure that only true Nintendo fans get first crack. Scalpers won't even be able to make multiple Nintendo Accounts in order to get around these limits, as the aforementioned 50 hours of gameplay had to be logged before today, April 2. Unless scalpers knew the rules well ahead of time, any dummy accounts they make leading up to the Switch 2 launch will be useless.

April 17Apr 17 But I’m not dropping $500+ just to play it (game plus a Switch 2). We still have original Switch games to crank through. But damn it looks awesome.
April 18Apr 18 https://www.nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/nintendo-maintains-nintendo-switch-2-pricing-retail-pre-orders-to-begin-april-24-in-u-s/ Retail pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 will begin on April 24, 2025. Pricing for both physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) will also remain unchanged at launch. April 24Apr 24 Did they finally turn it on? I never saw it go active. After 30 minutes last night I was ready to throw in the towel. Had one in the cart at Target, but their site would never take the payment. Tried for over 20 minutes. (hence the motherfucker gif.) Then noticed a walmart tab reloading, and bam. So lucked into that one. Would have preferred best buy, but whatever. Delivery before 9am on the 5th is fine.

They did but after trying Walmart and target for 30 minutes, I noticed Best Buy went live around 11:30, only took 2 minutes on their site. I ended up ordering a pro controller this morning.

April 26Apr 26 Congrats to everyone who got one. I wasn't able to get one because i crashed out before 11.

June 5Jun 5 I didn't preorder, but was able to snag a Switch2 + Mario Kart World bundle from Costco online this morning. It should be here on Monday. But it's for my 9 year old's Christmas gift, so keeping that a secret for 6 months is going too be tough.
June 6Jun 6 My kids still love playing our original Wii, namely a few skiing and bowling games (they love using the balance board with a ski jumping game).
July 5Jul 5 I walked into the Best Buy not far from me and got one on the first day. Got it with the Mariokart World and Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo did some really good work on this and I thoroughly enjoy Mariokart and being able to just drive around the map. It’s strange, but it’s relaxing just driving and not doing one of the races. I am sure I am not the only person who thinks this and enjoys roaming around the map.
July 18Jul 18 DK Bananaza is super fun, plays a lot like odyssey I don’t know why Nintendo didn’t just launch with this game. All the reviews have been awesome and a potential game of the year.
July 19Jul 19 This has to be the new bar for most disappointing console launch. Gamecube is looking like roses now. The only title I was excited about is Mario Kart World and now that I've played it, 8 is superior in every way that makes Kart games fun. Sales are great, but big whoop. This lineup would get Nintendo murdered a few decades ago.

They do have the benefit of mostly backwards compatibility with the first one.

July 23Jul 23 5 minutes ago, NorthLoop said: Probably gonna be awhile before another Zelda comes out if they plan on making it as complex as TOTK or BOTW It certainly didn't have to be an original game - a Link's Awakening style remaster of an older game that hasn't gotten one (A Link to the Past or Oracle of Seasons/Ages combo) would have worked too. Or they could have done a Twilight Princess Switch port. That is still one that is not playable on the Switch (yet)

I wonder what this says for the future of the hobby. After a pre-order shitshow, Nintendo drops a portable console with a screen downgrade from the last model and a sole first-party title that's also scaled back and won't be realized until a few rounds of paid DLC drop, all with a hefty price increase, and goes on to sell more than any console has in this time frame. Hold onto your butts, the lessons they've learned from this pobably won't benefit the consumer.
August 12Aug 12 Two months+ of having had the new switch and still I just do the free roam on Mariokart. One of the best ways I have ever experienced in just turning off my brain and relaxing. They ought to market the roaming around as some free therapy. So peaceful.
