Paul Zimmerman dead at 86.

For you younger guys, he was a legendary NFL writer for SI.

That's too bad, but those strokes were horrible.  He was the best football writer of his era.

I loved his annual ratings/reviews of all the different broadcast teams. I can only imagine how much he would have hated some of the current combination lineups.

He was required reading in the days before the internet. RIP to a great writer.

He loved him some OL. I used to like his articles on SI. Great writer and seemed like good dude

The guy knew football. Great writer very engaging. One of the few writers where a person walked away after reading one of his articles and felt they had learned something.

As a kid, the entire "Dr. Z v. Peter King" SI issue where they built their own expansion teams was great.

RIP to one of the few remaining great sports writers.

I remember reading Dr. Z forecast both in si magazines and the early days of si.com.  For all the football info, takes he gave us in those articles, the red head reference in regards to his gf/wife stick with me the most.  RIP.

ESPN draft coverage hasn't been worth a shit since he left.

Met him at Louie’s. Later that night hung out with him and Fred Couples at Crescent Court. Good times. RIP
