The Curra's avocado frozen margaritas slam hard in the paint.  I usually like a very minimalist rocks marg with fresh lime juice and little else.  But @dcbc, get you an avocado frozen.

Same M.O. if I'm drinking a margarita, but I will give that a try for sure.

I don't like the avocado marg either, and I'll never order it again.   It was definitely green,  but there was zero avocado flavor.

Question... have not eaten at El Arroyo in 20 years.  Does it suck at everything they do?  Even breakfast, tacos or breakfast items? Like how bad is it??

The last time I ate there was 2022 on the way back from ACL. We were drunk and starving and it was convenient. It was also awful.

El Arroyo used to be along my commute so occasionally I'd grab breakfast tacos from their little truck/stand out front.  Only good for sustenance.

I know we all look fondly upon the places we ate in college and overrate them to an extent, because of both nostalgia and naivety, but El Arroyo has sucked for decades now.  I could swear it was awesome in the early 90's, but have very little confidence in myself to be right on that.

I don't think I've ever had anything good there.  We used to go to the outlet up off Far West every once in a while because we could feed the 6 of us for about $30 on 2-for-1 enchilada night, but their food was mediocre at their best.

Curra's was solid and the avocado frozen margs were really good.  But I definitely got a strange look from the group when I recommended them.  But no one was disappointed, and we polished off a pitcher of them.

Been working out at Crunch on William Cannon which is right next to Flores.  What's that place like?

Pretty solid Tex-Mex.  The family has been doing for a long time.  Several stores now.

Yeah, I've been there at least once, although we may have just gone to the bar for a drink and some apps.  It seemed pretty okie-dokie.

Going to Nixta for the first time next week. Not sure if really Tex mex or actual mex, but anyone been and have recs?

It's like a better version of Taco Cabana basically. It's not going to win any awards but I'm a fan. I like the drive thru.

We used to go to that one a ton when my kids were playground age. My wife used to like their mexi marts but according to her they went downhill and we haven’t been back since.

Haven't been in a while.  Pricey but so damn good.

I've had Nixta, and it's delicious for sure.

But I do find it hilarious that the assholes of surly jump all over a place like Torchy's for being gringo tacos with the high prices and non-traditional fillings, but are AOK with summer squash and duck confit tacos that cost $10 each...

Ahh my apologies, clearly you're more of a cauliflower taco kind of guy.  The good news is, that one only sets you back 8 bucks, and it comes with pine nuts!!!

my one trip to nixta it was like $80 for 4 tacos, 2 drinks, and some chips and salsa. fuuuuck that. they can shove their hand made corn tortillas up their lard greased assholes.

Ate lunch at Vazquez, ordered fajitas enchiladas. Excellent.

183 & Burnet or one of the others?  I love that place.

I wish them all the best because the owners are super nice, but the food is quite expensive for what you get, they are still running with more or less the same small menu as five years ago, and their patrons raving about them are obnoxious.  Also, their ordering system sucks if you have kids and there is any line at all.

Again, this is the snob in me but they would be a dime or dozen in Mexico City or Oaxaca  “You nixtamalize your tortillas?  You mean like every street vendor, every grandmother’s kitchen, every Mercado around the block?”

I am surprised at how small the menu is.

I went to the one on 183 near Lakeline. It’s run down but good. I was the only non-Hispanic person in there.

It's dog shit.  My wife got nostalgic and went there with a few friends two months ago. She brought home a few enchiladas and tacos and they were fucking inedible. Its was like a nursing home or insane asylum had taco night.

The Winstanely's could screw up a group prayer.  The Tavern is way better since they got out.

I guess the second Mama Betty's (Burnet Road), which has been opening "next month" for about a year, is actually going to open this week.  I'm not expecting much, but I imagine we'll give it a try.

Yeah they open Thursday and I think their bar Foxtail opens then too next door.

It's a chicks getting cocktails Tex-Mex kind of place.  The food is okay, but it's definitely drinks and happy hour gringo Mexican.
