I've gotta say, the sourdough pizza rolls at Rockin' Rolls (food truck, 5000 Burnet) are fantastic.  We've tried 3 of the 9 varieties, and all kicked ass. Throw them a bone. We've ordered: C

Seriously.  The family friendly pizzeria of our childhood already fucking exists.  It's Conan's. Deep dish for the adults, thin cheese pizza for the kids, the tastiest but unhealthiest side salad you

Conan's remains my favorite pizza in Austin.

I also love Via 313

Saccone's is another great one.

We pretty much go to Via for every pizza craving these days. Helps that it’s 2 miles from the house.

Salvation.  Ask for "New Haven" style (crispier crust with some burns).

Craig O's or Southside Flying Pizza have good lunch deals. ConansVia, East Side Pies and Home Slice for dinner and dinner prices.

Saccone's

Reale's

Brooklyn Heights used to be our go to, but the quality has suffered at the Parmer Lane / Avery Ranch location since they opened the second store off Crystal Falls.

Just heard Milto's is closing as soon as the building sells.

^ Damn. Hadn't been there in years but was definitely in my regular rotation in college. <csb> Was actually where I stopped at for lunch with my folks when we came into town to tour the campus while in high school. </csb> That 29th/Guadalupe area keeps taking some hard L's too, what with Ruby's and the old Conan's recently gone. Quick, somebody go check on Ken's!

Went to Milto’s a lot in law school in late 90s. Went again a couple years ago and thought it was still solid. Sucks they’ll be gone.

It’t the same phenomenon with Burnet Road. I love the new restaurants and other vitality of the area, but there are some unfortunate casualties.

For those in the Lakeway/Bee Caves area, I'll add Backdraft Pizzeria. Best pizza in this area by far.

is that the one in a trailer near the HCG?

Yep.

Thread inspired a new place too.  Went to Pizzeria Costra Nostra off 71 in spicewood.  Enjoyed the pies. Strong showing.  Nice Crust. Real similar to backdraft in style and execution. Place is only a few weeks old, but they are a contender.  Online review suggest that the service is still ironing out the kinks.  We were there early and service was fine.  We were the only people eating there and most were doing pick ups though.

Mangia used to do a pizza with chorizo and cheese as the filling, with a picante-type sauce and jalepenos on top. Miss that one.

How the hell was Backspace not already mentioned?  Great pizza.  Shawn's son & our youngest went to elementary school together -- that dude can cook.

Our kids are a bit younger than Shawn’s, but we know them through the Highland Park/Lamar circle. In addition to his culinary skills, he’s an incredibly nice guy. We were sad to see Bullfight close.

Yup, don't give a rat's ass what any of the other assholes on this site say, I still enjoy Mangia.

Know him well for the same reasons. Amazing family. We probably know each other.

Matthews in Baltimore City is legendary, and we’ve been there a bunch since the move. Finally got the Crab Pie the other night, which is just a shitload of crab meat with onion, cheese and Old Bay baked into the mother fucker.

Pieous

Went to new location for first time today. Pizza was good but holy shit that pastrami. It had been too long.

Conan's

Via 313

Home Slice

I haven't been to a lot of the others north of the river.

I just tried Southside flying pizza, just as a change of pace from conans, and it's really good .  I'll do it again at some point

How is desano? I get reviews ranging from “not the best in town but really good” to “its terrible, I’ll never go back”.

It’s kid friendly and convenient.  But the other Neapolitan options in Austin (pious, buffalino) are much, much better.

Delano is great. The divalio is my favorite pizza in town. It is expensive as fuck though.

yeah, I loved it but was shocked by the price. They don't have prices on the website for a reason. Was at a friends house near there, called and ordered 3 pizzas for pick up, gave the person picking it up $100 and they came back with less than $20.

top quality ingredients are terribly expensive on such a large pie.  Unless you are willing to cut quality to keep the same price, this is what you get.  (see home slice decline but prices stay the same!!)

Wife and I are big fans of Bufalina Due in our hood.  I don't ever think we've sat anywhere other than the bar, which is nice because they usually hire quality talent.  Excellent pizza, solid starters, and great wine list.

Lobster pizza?

Now that's what I call a taco!

As in Domain proper or are you talking about the Backdraft food truck that's been in the 4th Tap parking lot for awhile?

I work approximately 100 yards away, I guess I should try their pizza.

Not sure. That was basically what I was told at the truck before it moved a few weeks back. How long has there been a back draft truck at 4th tap. Never been.

Well, I'm not the most observant guy in the world, but I first saw it a few weeks ago.  How long it had been there, I don't know.

Is it good pizza?

  • 1 month later...

Wife dragged me to Blanco today for some festival, I said I'd go if we could try Pieous on the way back.

Damn.  That is some REALLY good pizza.  I'd put it well above Homeslice, Salvation, and maybe better than Backspace.  Outstanding crust, legit sauce, great flavorful toppings.  We got the "Smokey Italian", which is topped with their house-smoked Italian sausage and some spiced up onions.  Nice heat, tons of flavor.

I'm going back when I can, it's a bit out of the way, but Austin is fairly pizza-deficient.  I'll take a great pie like that any day.
