Saw this thread pop up and list some of my old favs in Austin, namely Via 313, Homeslice, and Marye’s in my old hood.

Not pizza and it’s been a while since I’ve had one but Little Deli used to make the best Italian subs west of central Pennsylvania.  Hopefully, they’re still badass and if so, you shouldn’t miss their Italian sub.

I've gotta say, the sourdough pizza rolls at Rockin' Rolls (food truck, 5000 Burnet) are fantastic.  We've tried 3 of the 9 varieties, and all kicked ass. Throw them a bone. We've ordered: C

Seriously.  The family friendly pizzeria of our childhood already fucking exists.  It's Conan's. Deep dish for the adults, thin cheese pizza for the kids, the tastiest but unhealthiest side salad you

If we don't get the pizza (which is fantastic), my wife gets the Italian sub and I get the meatball sub.  Both are phenomenal.

Best Italian sub is Homeslice.

It’s spectacular… as is the tuna, if you’re so inclined.

a small pizza at pinthouse that used to cost $8.99 is now $12.99. their pizza is fine but that 50% increase is some bullshit.

Your first problem is ordering pizza when you could order the pizza rolls, which are vastly superior to their mediocre pizza.

agreed, but they also increased to $4/each.

You'd better listen to him, he's in pre-med.

I can think of a couple dozen places with better pizza than Pinthouse.  Price bump?  Hell no.

When is a pint not a pint?

when it's an imperial pint

We were at Pinthouse Brewing a few weeks ago and 3 of us ordered the same beer and they served them in 3 different sized glasses. We assumed it was just an availability issue.

We were at the one on Burnet and they were serving jelly fish in 12 oz glasses and not the usual 16oz pint glasses

I have been eating at Pedroso's Pizza trailer on Burnet every thursday for over a year now so I feel I should pimp these guys.  They have some damn fine pizza.  The Thursday Slice of the day is a thin crust with spicy salami slices with calabrian peppers and shaved parmesan.  They also opened a trailer at The Tavern in downtown Round Rock and one on E 7th.

That's the puffy nipples of pizza crust.  Is it pretty close to Neopolitan?

I said it in another thread but I fuck with Jets.

They do like a BBQ chicken, pineapple, red onion pizza that kicks ass.

Nice sourdough. Bigger than Neapolitan and the crust is not as light as what you are gonna get from bufalina. Undercarriage is in line with neo and could be more crispy imo.

eta and just to be clear it’s the best pizza by far out this way unless you maybe hike out to sorrelina. But I haven’t made it out there is a while for a recent comparison.

Taking over the kitchen in Lala’s.

We got a sausage & mushroom pie from Feral Pizza tonight (stock photo below, not ours, we ate ours too fast).  Near 51st and Duval, it's a food trailer in the lot of Duval Market.

Fantastic NY style pizza.  The house-made sausage had tremendous flavor.  The crust was thin but not crackerish, with a hint of sourdough, and the sauce was excellent, although I'd like more.  I'd put it a step above Homeslice, at least based on this one trip, which won't be our last.  Really nice people, too.

How's it compare to Pedrosos and Baldinucci flavor-wise and in price?

No idea on either.  16" cheese pie is $18.  Toppings prices seemed pretty reasonable, as did the price of the "specials".

One complaint:  there is no way to order half and half online.  However, they told me that I could respond to the subsequent "order has been placed" text message with any specific requests.  No phone #, either.  It's a small trailer manned by 2 people and they're trying to keep it simple.

I hear there's a huge already built-out restaurant space in Buda that has recently become available, they should definitely consider abandoning their successful trailer operation and trying out a brick and mortar in a remote location!

Makes sense!

BTW, that 16" cheese pie is $19.50 at Homeslice, so less expensive, better, and only two blocks away.

Was reminded yesterday of the goodness that is Giovanni's on Lamar and Barton Skyway. It's tucked away inside the Food Mart there. Hadn't been there in some time but still so good.

Run by the chef at the old Mezzaluna downtown.

That's a blast from the past.  I used to go to Mezzaluna quite a bit.  Not the greatest Italian food in history, but among the best in Austin at the time.  Definite late-80's early-90's vibe, though.

That was an East Side Pies spot, right?

Brooklyn Pie I think

Yeah, you're probably right.  I ordered pizza there once.  (Once.)

I used to get pizza from the Brooklyn Pie Co. location on Far West and thought it was pretty good.

Mesa?

My experience at the joint next to LaLa's had nothing to do with the quality of the pizza, because I never got any.  I ordered online, got there before closing time to pick up, and they had shut the place down for the night.  "Sorry, dude."   I eventually got a refund.

Ha! Sounds like many of my experiences with the stoned-to-the-bejeezus crew at Conan's, yet I still love that place.

And yeah I meant Mesa/Spicewood Springs.  I had good experiences with that one.

You gotta admire the attitude.  "Hey Dave, all we have is this one last order, let's bail."  "Cool, cool."

It worked for the Burnt Ends cups.

Seems like a weird post to get neg repped on.  I like that place, particularly back when I used to enjoy beer.  Great pies  But that charging station seems like a weird capital expense considering the whole thing is gonna be leveled in less than 24 months.  Like buying a new charger for a phone you plan to upgrade next month with a different adapter.

Fun fact, Pat Oles who is redeveloping that whole site is a Texas-Ex.  And his cousin, who obviously looks nothing like him, is Giancarlo Esposito (aka Gus Fring).
