There are some ponds behind central market that are a kid friendly fishing spot. I usually take my kids to either Bull Creek or McKinney Falls.

June 8, 20187 yr thanks yall, good to know. she did end up taking them to red bud, and i know they caught at least one there this morning.

My biggest bass ever was caught in front of the damn there. 9.75 lbs. I found a HEB that was open, and they weighed it for me in the seafood area. I think it was 1995. I was poor college student and I kept in the freezer for 2 years before the wife made me throw it out.
June 9, 20187 yr the gettins been gooood. colorado didn't see much in the way of runoff this year...it's setting up for an epic june/july but brutal august. hopefully we get some rain.

June 11, 20187 yr Had my first run in of the season with a shark while wading yesterday. It happens every couple of years but it’s nothing I’ll ever get used to! I stopped using a stringer years ago because a stringer full of bloody fish was just tempting a shark to come and hit it. I use a floating mesh bag with about a six foot line attached to my wading belt. Was minding my own business with 3 reds and a trout in the bag and had a big shark hit it. It about knocked me over and I could tell it was a good sized one from the water it was moving. Thrashed around for maybe 5-6 seconds while i fumbled around getting the rope off my belt then took it about 30 yards away. It shreaded the bottom of the bag from the styrofoam ring. Got all 4 fish. Definitely something that gets your attention!
June 11, 20187 yr Never had it happen. Hell, I've been wade fishing a lot and never even seen it happen to anyone else. Like you, I switched to the Styrofoam ring/mesh fish basket thing many years ago but even when I still used a stringer it never happened to me or around me that I know of. I probably just need to fish more. I've had plenty of small sharks cruise by me in shallow water but never a big one.

I probably just need to fish more. I've had plenty of small sharks cruise by me in shallow water but never a big one. I saw this happen to my law partners as a young lad literally my first time wadefishing in Galveston. Had a nice speckled trout on the stringer, shark took his share. Trout was no longer a keeper
June 11, 20187 yr I was going to post that I wade fish a ton, but I've never had a shark attack my stringer, but nevermind, I'm not posting that. Like talking about a no-hitter
June 11, 20187 yr I’ve had it happen twice before this one. Usually just a hard tug on the baskets and some ruined fish, this was a different deal altogether. I’ve seen guys in Port O’Connor make fish baskets out of laundry baskets and pool noodles that are supposedly better protection.
June 12, 20187 yr Author I’ve had it happen multiple times in the surf, but never in the bay, even near the passes where I’ve seen some scary large sharks. I still use a stringer but it’s attached in a manner that doesn’t take much to be taken. I don’t loop it around or tie to belt like I see others do. Its a very eerie feeling.
June 12, 20187 yr You Texas wade fishing guys are crazy."Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right."That being said: my brother sent me some TX wade fishing pictures this morning. Looks like he had a good weekend.
June 13, 20187 yr Caught a huge (8 lbs maybe?) catfish on the fly last night going after pond bass. I’ve managed to catch a few smaller ones in creeks before but this was next level. Nearly jumped out of the water on the strike and pulled like a freight train on my 8wt. https://m.imgur.com/rNWPz2v

June 13, 20187 yr Most impressive thing is that he didn't have a stroke and fall in the water with that hog when he got it boat-side. Side note - one of my reps told me that in the last week or two some kid caught one of the tagged Star redfish on Sabine and wasn't registered for the tournament. Supposedly he released it and has been fishing for it again ever since (after registering) in the same spot. Rep swears its true and that there was a news article from Beaumont or Port Arthur with pictures. I'm sure that happens, but I've never seen it reported that I can recall.
June 13, 20187 yr Since im on the shelf with a bum shoulder dad is taking an acquaintence fishing tomorrow. Apparently this guy only fishes for tripletail.
June 16, 20187 yr That fish was caught early in the tournament too. I would have had a heart attack getting it in the net. I saw the story about that kid going back after the tagged red. Same thing I would do. I haven’t caught one, but I have ate some Triple tail and they are pretty damn good. Tons of work travel + kid’s baseball all star tournament means no fishing for me in the month of June. That really really sucks. I did get the wife a bunch of wading gear for Mother’s Day. So I guess I need to take her fishing soon. Follow up note from our Chandeleur Trip : a buddy got bacterial infection in his leg on the last day we were on the boat. It has been kicking his ass the last four weeks. He finally went and saw a specialist and they went “ nuclear jihad” on it with three different antibiotics. He says he didn’t have any cuts. Where the swelling started, there was a circle with a definite center to it. I thought maybe he got bit by a spider. Anyways, be careful out there.
June 16, 20187 yr Friend of mine won the 2010 lower coast trout award. He caught it on June 1st. The big girls shed weight during the summer. That 11 pounder is mind blowing.
June 16, 20187 yr I can't imagine what that 11 pounder weighed in February...Shut up! The holidays are hard on everyone’s diet!

I had a shark crash on my stringer last summer out at Chandy. I was real happy to have a 15' rope attached to my stringer that morning. With that much extra length, there was enough slack so I didn't get knocked off my feet. Edited June 18, 20187 yr by Footballpants
June 18, 20187 yr It's been a very slow start to my summer of fishing, but things are about to heat up. Headed to Rockport next week, Islamorada mid-July, then Alaska/Wyoming/Chandeleur in late July and early August. This is not a humble brag.
June 18, 20187 yr Went fishing in Destin last week with a friend of mine. Day One: Day Two: There were bad storms offshore so we didn't do as good. Day Three:

June 19, 20187 yr I’m in the same “boat”. PortAfino is now on the market. My fishing partner bought a 60 foot custom Carolina and that will be my ride going forward. For those of you familiar Brennan is still our captain and I gave my friend all my tackle, so it’s basically the same as it was now we are just bigger and faster. We’ve had it since September and the extra bedroom has made it much more comfortable on overnights. Also won the Quepos Rockstar tourney on it in January and those winnings are going to go across the board at the Bisbees tournament in Cabo this October. GamePlan will get shipped from Costa Rica to Cabo in September. I’ll get some pictures up soon.

June 20, 20187 yr @hacker that's awesome. Plum Creek? Fished there when I lived down the street 15 years ago. Never caught anything even close to that big.
June 20, 20187 yr Yessir! This one weighed in at 15 lbs. Probably a mutant from all the run off that feeds the lake

June 20, 20187 yr Hey Fellas, my nephew just graduated high school and is going to Marine boot camp next month. I asked what he wanted to do before he goes and he said "go fishing with you Unc". Damn near made me tear up. Now I'm a pretty good bass fisherman, but he doesn't know shit about catching fish. I want to take him to a spot where we could just walk around the water, cast a line and have a good chance at landing a fish. So my question is do any of you guys have a tank or pond some where we could go around Austin and fish for a couple of hours? I know it's a long shot, but I thought I would ask. It goes without saying that we would be completely respectful of your property and your fish. We aren't interested in eating the fish, just catching and releasing. Thanks for reading and your consideration.
