Another year, another 5-star big man, hopefully a different result. Hook 'em!

http://insidetexas.com/texas-lands-5-star-will-baker/

Strengths

· Technically sound all over the offensive end
· Patient, solid footwork around the basket
· Legitimate length as a 7-footer with long arms
· Touch well out to the three point line
· Consistent high release on his shot
· Comfort as a shooter off the catch in the mid-range
· Sees the court well
· Good screener
· Active defender at the rim
· Good area rebounder
· Repeatable, smooth free throw stroke
· Passes well
· Can put the ball on the floor and attack bigger defenders off the bounce
· Can finish above the rim when he loads his body

Weaknesses

· Foot speed is going to be an issue until he can prove it isn’t
· Not super-explosive as an athlete (though, not terrible by any means)
· Has work to do in the weight room to maximize his frame
· Has work to do with his physicality in absorbing contact
· Will need to show he can play strong with the basketball against aggressive, strong, smaller players

How he Fits

As a replacement for Osetkowski, Baker is an ideal fit for next year’s Texas team. With players like Sims, Hayes, Hepa and Kai Jones already in the fold, Texas was lacking a polished offensive threat in the frontcourt and Baker’s about as good as it gets in the country at that spot. The presence of those other players also provides some relief from Will’s growth areas as well, as they don’t exactly lack for quick, explosive big men.

He’s also an important recruit from the standpoint that this UT staff is a threat to land in-state kids when they prioritize them (as they have done with Jarrett Allen, Andrew Jones, Jase Febres and Gerald Liddell). Keeping that pipeline open and obvious has to happen and Shaka obviously gets that.

oh and speaking of keeping the pipeline open, hopefully KJ Adams follows in his and Brock Cunningham's footsteps (not to mention Mihm, Buckman, and Axtell). Westlake is loaded this year.

Congratulations Will. You’re going to get a lot of pussy. And that’s something they can never take away from you.

He’ll probably have a couple of terabytes in the spank bank by then. She can’t take that away from him. Yet

So is he the typical one and done 5 star guy or can we keep him 2 iir 3 years?

multiple good years. he's the type of big that we've seen programs like Gonzaga and Wisconsin employ with great success. should be a really good college player. hell, if this were the 90's there wouldn't even be a question that he would stay at least three if not four years, the kind of guy who could grow into an all american if he stuck around long enough.

I can’t wait to see where he’s drafted in 2 years

Great to see this at the top of the forum when I opened it. Hook 'em!

^^ Thanks for posting that.  Kid looks like he can shoot it.

Nice.

He's like Mark Eaton and Detlef Shrempf had a baby.

"Shhh, we're about to blow Larry Bird."

Hopefully better than scrub NBA Center Danny Schayes, son of early NBA Hall of Famer center Dolph Schayes.

Had greatest NBA draft scouting report ever of six words. “ Looks like father, plays like mother. “

I need to follow recruiting more closely, I guess.  Until post 11, I thought we'd landed a 5* center for the oline and then I saw the pick...

But...cool and Hook 'em!!

Oh and show me the coffee, JFC, I must've slept read though the OP

Why did Billy Bob Thornton show up to a high school commitment?

He just wanders around westlake high.  He’s not dangerous so they let him.

which one of those ugly skanks had his child whom he never acknowledged

this dude is cut out of the tall German swath. i wouldn't even begin to think of him as a 5.  he's a 4 all day long

This is good and all, but what I wanna know is how well he can stand still while the guards pass it around the perimeter and then jack up a three.

You were fine with good rebounder and plays like 7 feet tall in the OP?
