November 10, 20187 yr ....need recommendations, visiting Texas over the Christmas Holidays, want to bring one back here to Alaska, full of beef and pork. Want to check the cooler as luggage. Alaska Airlines and local airlines beat up every box that comes in the mail. Luggage will be treated about the same.
November 10, 20187 yr Doesn’t really matter if you’re asking me. Just get the right size and make sure you don’t go over the weight restrictions. Also make sure you get some straps or bungee cords to hold the lid closed. You can’t tape it down cause TSA is just going to cut that shit up and the lid won’t stay shut.
November 10, 20187 yr Unsolicited advice that you probably already know. Just freeze the meat before you pack it up the day you're leaving and no need for ice.
November 11, 20187 yr 18 hours ago, Hpara759 said: Coleman extreme....ice will last for days inside one. Igloo makes coolers now that rival Yeti. So does Coleman. Both are very good and cheaper than Yeti. But Igloo is based in Katy, Coleman is in Chicago.
November 11, 20187 yr I would work the problem backwards How big a cooler do you think you need? You can shop Academy online to get a great idea of the price and size breakdown available. There are a lot of coolers similar to Yeti that will keep your shit cold a long time. Most has some way to lock the cooler. I might opt for something like these to secure the cooler closed. Under a buck a pop at home depot and TSA can get in and resecure if they need to. If you are near a Buc-EE's they were discounting their Rtic Coolers, basically a clone of the Yeti, for a substantial discount.
November 12, 20187 yr More unsolicited advice....I mean Alaska is a long way away from Texas, but you don't need a fancy Yeti-type cooler if you freeze the meat. It will still be frozen by the time you get home.
November 12, 20187 yr Theres an Ozark Trails cooler at walmart for 137 that is supposed to be 52 quarts. May not be top tier as far as insulation, but likely sturdier than a cheap igloo or coleman for surviving the baggage handlers.
November 15, 20187 yr Author thanks a bunch. I need to call TSA and ask what kind of access they will require. Frozen is the key, no doubt. Coleman has the best reviews for the buck.
November 25, 20187 yr Coleman extreme is solid for a cheaper cooler, I’ve used them for years to pack out venison after hunts.
November 28, 20187 yr Don't know much about coolers, but this just popped up on my email. Seems like a good deal. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Coleman-70-Qt-Xtreme-Chest-Cooler-3000002011/304233938?irgwc=1&cm_mmc=afl-ir-10451-456723-&clickid=3QI0K2SZ5T2JwkvTt2ScWTbbUkgUgPWdr2cTQU0
