March 27, 20187 yr From the old board, post more if you got 'em. Google Maps Link I'm driving to New Mexico in a couple weeks, and already planning a couple stops.
March 27, 20187 yr Man I rarely go to New Mexico so when I do I get the smothered burrito with green and red sauce or I just get two burritos with each sauce.
March 27, 20187 yr Henderson: Hazel's Country Cooking is right on the main intersection in a crappy two-story strip center. For lunch, Hazel does a buffet that isn't particularly fancy, but it is magical. The time I went, there was this link sausage with the strangely smokey-sweet barbeque sauce that instantly transported me back to my grandmother's kitchen. She served me the exact same thing when I was a kid. I swear, I hadn't thought about that dish in thirty years. San Angelo: Concho Pearl Ice House is a great stop if you're heading to New Mexico from Austin. There's a backyard playground for the kids, so they can burn off some energy while the grown-ups get a beer. The brisket-stuffed avocado is outstanding. Edited March 27, 20187 yr by Ghost of LL
March 27, 20187 yr Rancho Pizzeria in Coleman. On par with Cane Rosso or Grimaldi's. Place is amazing! https://www.ranchopizzeria.com/
March 27, 20187 yr I'll be on my way to Ballinger in a couple of weeks. I plan on stopping in Albany at the Beehive, thanks to this thread. Thanks for bringing the map over here.
March 27, 20187 yr Jacksboro: Herd's Hamburgers on 281. Tiny little joint with old school desks and Dr.Pepper crates for seating inside. Only bottled drinks and chips (no fries). Did I mention it's the best hamburger on the face of this planet? Handmade patties using fresh beef on the same grill from the original stand in 1916.
March 28, 20187 yr Herd burger is fantastic. I always stop at the Allsups first and score a fountain drink before I get a burger. (Cool story bro)
March 28, 20187 yr Oh shit I damn near freaked out when I thought shaggy was gone and I'd forgotten to restart this thread.

I set it now so that anyone with the link can edit, but it's not publicly available if you don't have the link. Here you go: link to edit
March 28, 20187 yr Author ^^ I added everything that's been listed so far here. The rest is up to y'all.

Holy hell.....haven't been to Herds in decades! God help me, that place is amazing. How did I forget about that little gem!
March 28, 20187 yr Thank you, @PatrickMcHorn. Love this thing. I added a few, some beyond TX borders if that's cool. Holly's Drive Inn - Post, TX. Old school drive in burger joint.Chilly WIllie's - Arroyo City, TX. Dive bar with great greasy-ass burgers and onion rings.Route 66 Restaurant - Santa Rosa, NM. Old school diner and greasy spoon, good breakfast.Salman Ranch Raspberry Ranch - Mora, NM. Not a restaurant, but a great road trip stop. If it's raspberry season, these are awesome.Foxy Drive In - Clovis, NM. Greasy burger drive-in (a theme seems to be developing...).La Perla Taqueria/Bakery - Belton, TX. Dumpy, cheap joint with great tacos, amazeballs carnitas, good bakery.Lois and Jerry's - Bartlett, TX. Good burgers and CFS, but I haven't been in a long time as they seem to close randomly and aren't open weekends.
March 28, 20187 yr Owl Drug Store in Coleman. Very cool old school soda fountain. Good burgers and shakes.
March 28, 20187 yr Thanks, I added Blanco Bowling Club, Blanco Mrs Johnson's Bakery, Austin Kluay Kluay Thai, Bryan Blue Moon BBQ, Hearne Shrimp n Stuff, Galveston The Vermillion, Harlingen Edited March 28, 20187 yr by pyrohornIII added one
March 28, 20187 yr Habaneros Mexican grill in Trinidad, Colorado. 508 Nevada Ave. Hole in the wall with great authentic Mexican food. Bring your best Spanglish. Discovered it accidentally when driving about 20 Boy Scouts to summer camp. They loved it so much that they demanded we stop on the way home.
March 28, 20187 yr Pivo's Ice House in Lone Oak has the best burger I've ever had. It's a good place to stop and have a couple of beers and a great hamburger.
March 28, 20187 yr Added Bono's in Decatur. And Seconded Meer's outside of Lawton. I would suggest adding your name at the end of the tag so we know who posted it. That way we can shit on their recommendations later
March 28, 20187 yr Nora's Tacos in Sabinal Live Oak Drive Thru in Uvalde The Rock House in Jourdanton
March 29, 20187 yr Anything near Mount Pleasant, TX? I have to go up there quarterly for a meeting and usually pre-meet with folks for lunch at Blalock BBQ. The people who run it seem nice, but Blalock BBQ doesn't belong on this list.

March 29, 20187 yr Jaxx Burgers in Paris. Right off the square. Try the 909. 2 Patties, 4 slices of American, block cut Swiss Cheese, 3 strips of bacon, & jalapenos. Mine was the best jalapeno burger I've ever had. Dairy Palace in Canton was very mediocre to me.
March 29, 20187 yr I love when I get into Allsups country. I’m buying a dozen next time and bringing some home.
March 29, 20187 yr I'm from Paris. Wife and I stopped at Jaxx when we passed through a few months back. Very very unimpressed.

G-parents lived in Talpa, got shipped off each summer for a few weeks. Went there all the time. Was just there a few weeks back. The entire downtown is finally gaining a little steam. Now that Rancho Pizzeria is in, along with their wine-bar, soon to be completed coffee house, and art gallery. It's a neat little scene. Couple from Tech even purchased and refurbished the little Inn on the outskirts of town. I really want to take the rib and stay at the Rancho Loma B&B. Rancho Loma There's also Big O's in Valera. Love that place. Staple every time we are in town. Big O's Edited March 29, 20187 yr by BabaYaga
March 29, 20187 yr Added a few places to the map last night: Manuel's in Port Isabel -- tacos gigantes y sabrosos Neal's Cafe, Concan New Baden Store, New Baden Dairyette, Mount Ida, Arkansas Mr Whiskers, Hot Springs, Arkansas Schobel's, Columbus (it's raised its game)

March 29, 20187 yr Added a couple: Preston Trail in Gunter (only serve food fri-sun) great cafe in the back of a true value store J&W's in Chickasha...get the onion burger
March 30, 20187 yr I've been to that Allen's Family Style Meals in Sweetwater. We went on a Sunday last year. Great value. All you can eat fried chicken and sides. The sides don't stop coming. And there are like 10 of them. And cobbler. All that and a drink...$10 even.
March 30, 20187 yr Had to drop Ronnie's BBQ in Johnson City onto the list. I grew up there and went to school with owner Ronnie Weirshausen back in the day. He still uses quality briskets and smokes them low and slow. Consistently good. Buttermilk pie is solid, too. Just don't try showing up much after 1:00 p.m., though, or you might come up empty.
March 30, 20187 yr The frito pie at TJs Burgers in New Braunfels. Add diced onions and jalapeños from the condiments bar and you’re in for a damn good meal.
March 30, 20187 yr I see Pioneer BBQ in Nixon is already on the map. Good stop on the way back from the coast.
March 30, 20187 yr Added Hit the Spot Cafe in Garfield. They share the building with the the Garfield Public Library, so you can wonder around the library and talk with lots of old people.
March 30, 20187 yr Also added Down Unda - jam packed Australian themed convenience store on 281 in Adamsville. Filled with Australian candies, snacks and Aussie meat pies. Friendly people and a fun stop for kids. Small bathrooms
March 30, 20187 yr Always a great thread. Any of y'all ever head west on 20, New York Hill over Mary's for CFS in my opinion.
