Do they still throw a penalty flag on the visitors to start the game that home team declines for these?

They only did that once for SC/UCLA.  Then the league said fuck it, no flag.  And I assume the B1G will be the same thing.

Going with our 1967 (great year I might add) throwbacks tonight.  Fire.

Texas vs Florida is an eye-candy game. I'm glad UF wore their blue pants.

Tech is gonna retire the "ugly uniform" trophy with today's ensemble.

Simply fantastic matchup last night in Salt Lake City.

Deep blue. Deep red.

It was outstanding.

Florida football vs Texas Longhorns three takeaways from Week 11 loss

This was a great looking game!

I've always liked Florida's unis, even though the script helmet is now overdone.

Florida has always stood out for me for having the tackiest "aggressive" 90s branding with the logo and athletic font and then gorgeous simple uniforms.

Western Kentucky going with what I believe are throwback helmets for Homecoming

Pulling off a good alternate (the Big Red mascot helmet) as well as a good throwback (see above)... well done WKU.

Texas unis will always be some of the best but the # of vent holes and panels in today's helmets make them look like a wayward pin cushion.

But player safety 1st. Optics 2nd. I get it.

I can't remember ever seeing a service academy's opponent try to go 'military' in their look for their game against said service academy.  Odd.

I don't hate the helmet, though.

That green on black looked great on tv.

first impression- not a great logo.  normally in favor of throwbacks (that is one, right?), but that one looks like the ol' sarge (or whatever fuck name it is) aggy logo with the helmet strap across his chin.  except its sparta aggy.

I don't hate it.  I love the lime green rather than kelly green with the all whites.  Would prefer the old school 70's flying worm eagle as the logo on the helmet, though.

Yeah, that script is near-illegible. Nice otherwise.

Folks are probably going to say that this is a stupid question but, I have to ask.

All of these uniforms that teams roll out are they paid for by the uniform/shoe companies?

Yes.

Also, don’t sweat asking this. Back in the summer I asked if shoulder pads only actually meant shoulder pads only. Someone humored me.

Wait - what do you mean by that (RE shoulder pads)?

10 hours ago, Llewelyn Moss said:

Yes.

Definitely not.  Most schools have a certain amount of credit with the supplier per year, and they are paying for anything over that number.  A reminder that Texas is unique, and not the norm.  The vast majority of universities aren't getting cash for wearing a brand.

This is New Mexico's contract w/ Nike - just the easiest one I could find.

**********************************************************************************

NIKE’S PRODUCT AND OTHER CONSIDERATION.

(a) In partial consideration for the rights granted under this Agreement, each Contract
Year, UNIVERSITY shall have the right to pre-purchase up to a maximum of $3,000,000
(retail value) of NIKE Products (the “Annual Product Allotment”) at
preferential pricing, each annual amount to be mutually agreed no later than June 1
prior to the applicable Contract Year. UNIVERSITY agrees to pay NIKE 1/3 of the
retail value of the agreed Annual Product Allotment (e.g., $666,667 for an Annual
Product Allotment of $2,000,000 (retail value)) (the “Cash Purchase Price”) each
Contract Year in exchange for the Annual Product Allotment. The Cash Purchase
Price shall be due in two installments: (i) the first in the amount of 60% of the total
Cash Purchase Price for the applicable Contract Year on or before September 1 of
such Contract Year and (ii) the second in the amount of 40% of the total Cash
Purchase Price for the applicable Contract Year on or before March 1 of such
Contract Year. Upon payment of the first installment of the Cash Purchase Price
each Contract Year, UNIVERSITY shall be entitled to order directly from NIKE, and
receive, the Annual Product Allotment for use by (or in connection with) the Covered
Programs, clinics, camps (in no event shall any camp or clinic in this Agreement
include any juvenile or youth camps or clinics that are run separately by the
Coaches), Coaches, Staff and such other purposes as the Director of Athletics may
deem appropriate to support the relationship between the parties. If the full Cash
Purchase Price is not received by March 1 in any Contract Year, NIKE shall invoice
UNIVERSITY for all NIKE Products ordered for the applicable Contract Year at
NIKE’s published wholesale prices.

(b) UNIVERSITY shall be permitted to carry-over an Annual Product Allotment credit up
to $200,000 (retail value) in Contract Year 1 and Contract Year 2, in each case for
any unordered annual allotment of NIKE Products from such Contract Year to the
subsequent Contract Year. UNIVERSITY will notify NIKE as soon as practicable if
UNIVERSITY anticipates it will carry-over a credit to the subsequent Contract Year.

(c) Each Contract Year, in addition to the Annual Product Allotment, UNIVERSITY shall
be entitled to order up to $100,000 (retail value) through “NIKE Elite” Client Services
(and subject to procedures established by NIKE for such purposes), for the use of
UNIVERSITY Coaches and Staff (with such allocation among Coaches and Staff to
be determined at the discretion of the Director of Athletics). No carry-over of
unordered annual allotments through NIKE Elite from one Contract Year to another
shall be allowed.

I would guess whether they were only the bits on your shoulder, or the whole set of upper body armor.

The only thing good about those is that the brown and yellow have been minimized

I think my point when I asked was that they don’t really wear lower body pads any more even in games (or just thigh pads), so in fall camp when it’s shoulder pads and helmets only, how’s that different than the games? Anyway, somebody explained that the players call those days “Winnie the Pooh” because they truly just wear shorts with shoulder pads/helmets.

Not arguing—I’m constitutionally incapable of conflict—just wanted to say thanks for providing a helpful qualification to my “yes.”

If you see that as the uniform provider paying for 3rd uniforms, godspeed.

Got ya.  I read it as a question about what shoulder pads protected, which made me wonder if shoulder pads had changed in recent years (in terms of what they cover)and I had missed it altogether
