March 31, 20187 yr Not all of these ladies have amazing vocal ability, but I like the sounds that they make. The Wild Reeds all sing lead on different tracks. Watch out, we got a grungy lefty! Side note: I love KEXP’s studio and show recordings. Their sound engineers are always on point.
March 31, 20187 yr I've been on a Mazzy Star kick lately. Damn Hope Sandoval was waif-tastic back in the day.

April 6, 20187 yr Y'all got plenty of Kelly Willis on this thread. And Emmylou made an appearance. So, I'm good. Y'all stay clear of Kelly, though....she's mine. Pretty sure that Bruce and I have an understanding about that.
April 6, 20187 yr I know someone posted First Aid Kit on the first page and as much as I love their cover of Black Sabbath it doesn't really allow them to show of their harmony skills, which is what these two are all about. Not bad for sisters from Stockholm.
April 9, 20187 yr https://youtu.be/vhe3vb0z7mY Evidently, Youtube won't embed this one. But it's Bonnie Raitt doing Angel from Montgomery. And it's great. Edited April 9, 20187 yr by Chad Fuck

Pretty sure that Bruce and I have an understanding about that.In 93, she put out that comeback album after Lyle Lovett talked her in to that EP with Jay Farrar (Son Volt) and Greg Olson (Jayhawks). First song on the solo album was written by M. Pallermo and B. Robinson. I called my brother. "Your drinking buddy.... basketball player from WT. Could he have written a song with Kelly Willis' husband that Kelly recorded"?"I don't know. Let me call him"In a bit he called me back and said...."one guess on who answered the phone. Never mind.. Kelly Willis.... Kelly fucking Willis just answered his phone."I posted a YouTube if Kelly's new song from her new record. Pledge.com has some great deals to support her. Brisket......I have some great stories.....I'll send them separately. You other assholes......buy Kelly's new record and support her live tour.
April 9, 20187 yr I'm still flummoxed every time I see her around town. I guess they have a kid who plays sports, because I've seen her at a couple of MS/HS football games and track meets. She doesn't doll up, either -- she just puts on her soccer mom clothes with no makeup and hangs out.

And yeah, bump into both Bruce and Kelly from time to time (our kids are almost exactly the same ages -well, at least our two and their first two). They're just casual, friendly enough for a chat, good folks. And if you don't wanna just up and run away with this....well, I can't help ya. Edited April 9, 20187 yr by Brisketexan
April 17, 20187 yr A friend of mine toured with Kathleen Edwards as her guitarist. He can't stand her now. (For whatever that's worth.)
June 28, 20187 yr Haven't seen a lot posted here about Kacey Musgraves recent record. We've been playing these tunes out a lot and they get good response.
July 12, 20187 yr "Dickerson". Lulz. Definitely digging the Rita Coolidge hair in the karaoke scene, along with the tank and jean shorts look. Regarding her actual talent: she's a better lyricist than almost everyone writing these days.
October 24, 20187 yr kat's acl performance of "nobody knows it but me" or whatever is great. its out there on the internet. cant post at work.
November 13, 20187 yr Two of my favorites I've been listening to lately. Sade was 52 when this was filmed.

December 7, 20187 yr Amy played fiddle on a song I wrote. It was a ridiculous mismatch. Quite an honor. I think she grudgingly took $50 or something. The music world misses her (along with the rest of the world).

May 3, 20196 yr Holy fuckity fuck. Rachel Price with The Punch Brothers and others. Chris Tile....man..that dude can play and sing with anyone. Edited May 3, 20196 yr by hullabelew
May 3, 20196 yr I wonder how many bad songs Steve Winwood has written. One? Two? Maybe just one ("Roll With It"), and it's better than most writers' best efforts. That fucker. Nice track, hulla.

May 3, 20196 yr Goddamit. Rachel Price -- my perfect woman is a WHOLE lot like that. Classic womanly curves, bold presence, knock-you-down voice. Kat Edmondson -- if the word "enchanting' didn't exist, we'd have to invent it for her. That "Nobody Knows That" performance is one of the sad/sexiest things ever recorded. And Kacey -- "top of her game" barely begins to cover it. She's a multi-dimensional living work of art. Talent across the board, a presence that manages to be seductive without surrendering the power and independence of her femininity -- she comes across as a force to be reckoned with in every positive way. Seriously, I find this thread more captivating and sexier than anything on IPIHB. A big part of it is because these women aren't objects -- they are forces of nature. I dig me some strong women who own it. Lotta respect, lotta admiration, and a whole lot of Brisket fawning like a puppy dog.
June 23, 20196 yr Author Saw these girls on PBS/Lincoln Center last night. I guess they're still trying to make it (not many Youtube views). Beautiful harmonies.
August 9, 20196 yr Just heard a podcast with Danny Kortchmar, which led to Leland Sklar to Russ Kunkel to Carly Simon. Holy fuck was she ever sexy.
August 9, 20196 yr Quote Holy fuck was she ever sexy. . . . and according to rumor, she fucked Bucky Godbolt. Bucky. Godbolt. The part of me that doesn't want to believe it's even remotely possible defers to some twisted part of my psyche that says "well, Lyle and Ric and . . ." ugh. Edited August 9, 20196 yr by jimmyjazz
August 28, 20196 yr Great lineup. Not a weak link among them. Edited August 28, 20196 yr by Shoxthemonkey
August 28, 20196 yr She may have great legs, but Carrie Underwood makes worthless music and is highly overrated as a singer. Zero soul. Blech. (tell us what you really think, jj)
August 28, 20196 yr Paraphrasing what an earlier poster said, "She may not be a great technical singer, but I like the noises she makes". It works for me.
