sidebar to the gundy/flopping thread :: how many tv timeouts?

Featured Replies

Who has the stats on number of TV commercial breaks, and why, i.e. change of possession, team timeout, end of quarter/half, injury, bags of dicks on the field, et.c

Don't forget the asinine reviews that are "mandated" to sell more shit.

One thing the NFL has done well is having the split screen for shorter commercials. It makes it feel like you're spending less of your time watching commercials. I think it's a great move.

All I know is it's too fucking much. It makes me not even want to watch football sometimes.

1. Cut down on the unnecessary TV timeouts.

2. Don't stop the clock after every first down.

3. Cut the play clock down to 30 from 40.

All of that would make the game much more enjoyable to watch.

The games that are on LHN have noticeably fewer TV timeouts.

The games on FOX are the worst. It is impossible for a game on FOX to be under 4 hours.

1 - Yes.  But TV pays the bills, so this is an uphill battle.

2 - Fuck that.  The answer is NOT less football and less ability for teams to make comebacks (i.e. exciting football)

3 - The play clock that starts right away is doing the job.

The bigger the matchup, the more commercials. That said, I think NBC and Fox do a better job than ESPN/ABC. Disney is fucking terrible.

As for the OP question, would like to see the stats myself.

Did you miss the Baylor game earlier this year? That game was on ESPN and was fucking unwatchable because of the commercials.

For all the bitching about the NFL they do a masterful job keeping their game time right at 3 hours, even with the increase in passing every year....

Part of that is not stopping the damn clock after every first down for no apparent reason, except to make the game last 4 hours or more.

Get officials that don't have to meet for 2 minutes on every call and 10 minutes on a million reviews

Let's compare the average number of snaps in an NFL game vs college.

I don't give a shit about the NFL, and I sure as hell don't want less college football.

Shorter games doesn't mean less college football if the amount of action shown on the field is the same.

Kinda like I thought with the ISU game—-it felt like a NFL game with all the TV time outs/commercials
