Do people still go there?  I honestly don't have time anymore to stand in line for half a day to get some BBQ.  Haven't been since way before the fire took out the pits.  Is it still an all day experience?

No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded.

Drove by today at 12:45 and the line went outside, down the stairs, along the building to the edge of the parking lot.

Went over Christmas break. Got there around 8:50, line was down the street and around the corner. They told me I had no shot at getting in, so I left.

It’s easy. Pre order 5 pounds. Drive around to the back. Wait zero minutes. Pick up ??? Profit.

I think it changes based on demand.  You have to check the website and see what days are available.

You can pretty much always get a pre-order within 2 weeks, same week on occasion.

It's really easy.

How far in advance do you have to order 5 lbs?

PM baboontyme.

I pre-ordered a couple weeks back. Waited zero minutes. Still the King

Pro Tip: buy it whole and slice it yourself. keeps the flavor.

How does the line take the length?

Sounds like pre-order is the way to go. What is the minimum?

Not if you want it on a weekend.  It can be 6 weeks or more if you're looking for a weekend slot.

The line is not worth it. We have done pickup for several work luncheons in the office.

You mean between the strip club and the dildo shop?

my favorite thing at franklin is pointing at the idiots in line when I drive past on my way to micklethwait.

That too, and maybe a kayak shop where I took hunters ed like 20 years ago somewhere in that stretch too

I’m a big Franklin fan. Watched his show and read his book. So I’m compelled to go this Friday while in town. I’m not a fan of the line though. How early do I need to get in line? Can we bring a cooler and beer? If I say fuck it, where should I go instead?

You can bring a cooler and beer. You can also preorder if you’re getting more than 5lbs.

Pre-order looks like it's currently out to 9/11.  Which actually isn't bad, sometimes it's 3-4 weeks even for midweek.  But if you want it on a weekend, it appears the earliest available dates are 9/21 and 9/22.

I wish I had researched preorders a few weeks ago.  Too late.  Guess it's tailgating or choosing someplace else.  I make the decision Friday morning.

Waiting in line at Franklin isn't like waiting in line for other things.

It really is like tailgating. Grab 3 friends, some tailgate chairs, and a cooler and your interminable 4 hour wait will just seem like a little bit of time bullshitting with your buddies.

Is it like Waiting for Godot?

Franklin is the best bbq i've ever had, but it's not "five hour wait" better than some other places around here. Go to Mickelthwait or Valentina's.

This but do it in late fall or winter and it’s even better. But just once.

Only problem is we're flying in, so we'd have to pick up some chairs and a cheap styrofoam cooler for the wait.  It would just be me and one buddy.  The third did it a few years ago and won't go with us this time.  He wants to try La Barbecue.

Go to La Barbecue, it is also delicious as fuck

Dry as fuck.

La BBQ, Micklethwait, Valentina's. You can't go wrong at any and the wait (I assume) on a Friday shouldn't be too bad.  La BBQ has a pretty decent line on Saturdays, I've walked past it twice on my way to the preorder counter in the back.

If it was me I'd go to La BBQ on Friday for lunch and Valentina's for Saturday breakfast...Real Deal Holyfields

Forget la B. You're a fan of AF, then go wait the line. When will you get another chance?

I did it once a few years ago and got there about 9:30 and we ate about 1.

I wouldn't do it again, but I'm glad I did it once.

Go early, take beer. You don't need a chair.

Just rent an electric scooter and stand on it the entire time. Nothing more Austin.

I've been to Black Box three times. Never waited in line a single minute, total. Ate when I was hungry, at my usual eating time. Did not get stabbed. But I would probably prefer it to waiting in a four hour line.

Moist or lean?

She had the sausage.

I’ve been working on my hipster mustache to fit in while I’m in town.

Those went out of style like 5 years ago. Now you'll just look like a gay dude. nttawwt

La Barbecue allows pre-orders a few days in advance (you might be a day late).  No minimums required and you can pick up at the side window.

Isn’t there a guy that rents chairs?

I agree franklin is about the experience of tailgating and then enjoying delicious bbq after about 3hrs of waiting. I try to do this at least once a year since it is fun to do.

If I want good bbq I just go to kerlin.
