  • He actively shit on Texas on the way out, trying to prevent good coaches to come here and told recruits to go somewhere else, all to make himself look better. Do you really think he wants Sark to win

  • He's been a petulant cunt at NC over the last few months and they told him to get lost. He hasn't changed and shouldn't be anywhere around the program.

He wrote “Fuck you, pay me,” didn’t he.

Wonder if he is calling recruits and telling them he'll help them go wherever they want? Fuck that guy.

And that’s fair.

I do believe this is exactly what we saw coming, weeks ago.

North Carolina coach Mack Brown will not return to the Tar Heels next season, the school announced Tuesday.

Brown, 73, on Monday said he intended to return, although he had not yet held any discussions about his future with athletic director Bubba Cunningham.

He will coach in Saturday's game against rival NC State, and no decision has been made about the postseason.

"Mack Brown has won more games than any football coach in UNC history, and we deeply appreciate all that he has done for Carolina Football and our University,'' Cunningham said in a statement.

As the guitars picked up, Bubba continued on by crooning "Closing time, you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here"

How could they?! The players begged him to stay.

UNC must be a cesspool.

Imagine if he stayed at his ESPN gig. He'd probably be where Nick Saban is right now but instead he's getting fired after telling his boss "you can't fire me".

Good for UNC. Don't let him play passive aggressive BS games.

I can just imagine Mack on GameDay with that idiot McAfee and Mack starts clutching his pearls every time McAfee says “damn” and “hell” and then excuses himself from the set when he sees a vulgar sign from the crowd.

This is the first "big boy" job available this cycle. Anyone know who the leader in the clubhouse is?

Beyond time for UNC to move on past him.

We need to merge this thread with the new Mack is fired thread

I love MB but it was beyond time for UNC to move on.

They had to, but it's just embarrassing that Mack forced their hand.

True Detective Time GIF

Not sure why they would do this now and give him time to wreak as much havoc as he can on the way out.  Maybe he's grown as a person, though.

Hahaha

Was he killing himself recruiting in Florida when this happened?

In-season firing, so he was killing himself prepping for State.

Exactly as predicted.

Who's next? Jimbo's tanned, rested, and ready...

Now he just needs to go to Tulane to complete the ultimate palindrome career of ascension and school firings.

Why would UNC want this distraction for a rivalry game? Maybe it's all the motivation they can muster for another disappointing, underachieving season?

Football must be all he has (or so he thinks).  Shit, he's 73 years old.  Man, how much $$ is he sitting on?

He turned us around immediately after he showed up, and got us a National Championship.  He deserves all that credit.  Hope he eventually comes back to DKR for some mid-game ceremony before he kicks the bucket.

I was told you have to give Mack 3 years to fix it after he runs your program into the ground?

Would require App St too

That's probably true. But I'm not going to celebrate Mack getting fired. I wonder if he goes back to ESPN?

I would not let Mack stick around after the NC State game...

On the way out, is Mack gonna burn UNC football down with their recruits too???  😬

I heard there was an opening at Florida Atlantic..

Im actually surprised he didn’t retire first. It really shows what type of person he is. I understand him not resigning at Texas. He thought he could turn it around. But NC was a retirement job. He’s 73 for Christ’s sake.

He'll coach the NC State game if they promise to.make it all about him.

Am I reading that wrong. They are gonna let him coach the last game or is he trying to prepare them in some other capacity?

Lmao

He’s gonna coach against NC State and NC will determine if he coaches in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl.

Aggy already paying him so he'd be cheap if not free.

He always makes it awkward doesn't he.

How desirable of a job is NC? Seems like the right coach could do well there.

Yeah, we've seen this act before...

Get Mack out asap, or else he's gonna burn another program down on the way out. 😬

I presume they're letting him coach the game based on Mack's statement, so it's probably better this way. Instead of a cloud of uncertainty hovering over the game, just do it and let Mack and the players do their whole "win one for the Gipper" send coach out on a win routine.

edit: Might motivate more fans to show up and support the team, too.

A 20th anniversary of the 2005 team will be appropriate next year, me thinks.

He was never leaving UNC by choice. Just like Texas.

I don't know the ins and outs of his contract with NC, but generally speaking, if he makes them fire him he gets a penalty/buyout/whatever, but if he quits voluntarily, he leaves that money on the table. I suspect the firing was both real and negotiated.

For reference, he makes around $5mm in total per year.

As per this link: https://www.fayobserver.com/story/sports/college/football/2024/09/28/mack-brown-north-carolina-contract-buyout-details-clause-tar-heels-fired-years/75418347007/

In the event he’s fired without cause, Brown would be due an amount equal to the sum of any remaining unpaid base salary payments.
As of December 1, 2024, that figure would be $2,812,500.

I suspect his agent could have negotiated an "I will quit at the end of the season" deal worth at least $3mm.  But, that ain't Mack.
