And, to do his part, last night, the boy and some buddies got drunk, wandered down to the Russian embassy in Berlin, and yelled "FUCK RUSSIA" at it a few times around 3:00 a.m.  True heroes, each and every one of them.

I wouldn’t take that too seriously, that’s pretty much a standard 3am for their Embassy

Also Belorussia, Kazahkstan, Armenia (which surprises me), probably couple more Central Asia "stans", Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba.  And then any other country that thinks they can make a few extra bucks sucking at Putin's tit.  It's not the A Team, but then, the old USSR wasn't exactly pulling in grade A talent country-wise either.  They were able to run out the clock for decades anyway.

This roster sounds like TAMU, Mizzou, and Texas going up against the SEC

Me, a lieutenant in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, company commander. Here are my warriors. We are not afraid, we are not panicking. We do not lay down our arms and we will not succumb to any tyrants. We will not allow any murderers to impose their will on us. We will not give you a millimeter of our own land. Maybe this is our last recording. I don't know if I was a good or bad person, or what God will say. But I know that I am a good citizen and a good soldier. I am the protector of my homeland. The guarantor of her peace. Her shield and sword in time of war. You who come here whoever you are, whatever you are, who invade our house - get out of our land. We'll fight you until the last bullet. And when they're over, we'll fight you with our bare fists. We will fight you on land, in water, underground and in the air. Neither of you will get out of here alive. You will all die. And our land will be free. Glory to Ukraine. Glory heroes.”

What’s interesting about your post and btw I’m with you on this more than not - is you said not yet. Some said Ukraine wouldn’t fight in united fashion but that’s been proven untrue. And they’ve given russia all they can handle. What’s next though? Brutal brutal atrocities are likely.  I don’t see how the world can let that happen.  I’ll go back to my off the cuff rant - it really may be time for an inside job assassination or one by the CIA with tacit oligarch approval. The strategic nuke concern not battlefield nukes is just gonna fuck with everyone until it’s proven he won’t use them. Meanwhile if we let him continue he’s going to rape and murder women and children.

You're right.  I'm keeping an open mind.

There are no world class LNG terminals on the East Coast.  Mostly NIMBY, but LNG terminals & population centers are not a good mix.

Our country is facing some issues with infrastructure that could threaten our energy security. We won’t be Germany, but unless we change our stance on gas pipelines, we’ll have a problem.

We also have an abundance of natural gas - much more so than oil in terms of meeting our needs and being able to export a fuckton to countries in need. I understand the terminals near population centers, but we’ve got to build more, and more North to South (Houston) interstate pipelines, and West to East intrastate Texas pipelines.

If we brought in planes how quickly would we control the air above Ukraine? How much superior is the F22 versus what Russia has?

Way superior.  Now I must tell you that is only based on my watching of Top Gun over a thousand times.

I'd imagine with networked F22s and F35s, they'd be dead before they knew we were there.

If this is indeed the temperature of the RU military might, the US and NATO might not need to get involved…russians will defenestrate Putin themselves.

Hes wrekt the country financially, and any muscle they used to flex will have turned out to be a mirage.

As close to immediately as militarily possible. A handful of F35s with F22 escorts would wipe out mobile AA pretty quick and then it's Brrrrrt time. But that's just my halfway educated armchair take. I'd gladly listen to someone in the Air Force correct me.

Considering that the Russian Air Force seems to be struggling to contain Ukraine’s fliers, I’m pretty sure we’d establish air superiority in 24 hours or less.

It was also debunked in the comments of that tweet. Everyone is still cranking it on schedule.

Nope. You got it right.
And the A-10s would have a field day.

It took the United States more than 2 weeks to capture Basara and 3 weeks to capture Baghdad. The US military was (and is) light-years ahead in leadership, training and weaponry. Anyone IMO thinking this is over for Russia is incorrect. War takes time.

They will eventually take Kyiv, but they are not in a position to do much else - at this point, the US/allies in '91 had dropped a shitload more ordinance on Iraq. This whole thing feels so much like the Russians are trying to skip necessary steps and just rush to Kyiv and a few other areas.   It's like they wanted to emulate our "Shock and Awe" but are skipping the "Shock" part.

I still think I'm being generous, but assuming they are running roughly 3:1 for support-to-infantry, that's around 50,000 infantry (and I'm including the marine infantry the Russians were trying to land).  They've already lost several hundred dead (if it's 1,500 that would be amazing) and they've lost plenty of transports/vehicles.

But even if they have all 50,000 or so infantry still alive and functioning and able to move around (logistics do seem to be slowing them down), that's split up all over the country, so at most they might have 30,000 foot soldiers to deal with Kyiv, a city of 3 million people.  Even if only 50,000 Ukrainians were defending it, I don't see 30,000 Russian foot soldiers being enough to actually take and hold the city.  And if they can't clear out large parts of the city, they can't have sustained armor support (tanks or APCs) in there, when St. Javelin can be hiding in a building, waiting to bless them.

This whole thing is really bugging the shit out of me.

I'm still leaning towards Putin trying to capture Kyiv and capture the east side of the river and trying to run the clock out and get Ukraine to a table to talk.

But I'm also really leaning towards Putin's Yes Men fucking him over and giving him all kinds of false assurances about this being a large enough force.

I suspect that between the hardware and the pilots (training), we'd blow them out of the sky with quickness.

Russia is literally about a generation behind our aircraft.  Their "fleet" is mostly F-15 F-18 generation craft.  Tiny numbers of anything more advanced.

They haven't had the money to keep up.

Worth noting that the Javelin was mostly designed in Dallas, Texas USA.

They also made a version to fit Lamar’s limp-wristed throwing style.

How close are the Ukrainian and Russian languages? Is it late Spanish and Portuguese? Seems like a lot of dual speakers.

Very close. I'd say the Portuguese/Spanish difference is about right.

Just as a comforting thought….the only thing more dangerous than Putin winning may en a cornered Putin losing. Desperate madmen do bad shit.

We may end up in this one whether we want it or not.

csb time:  about 15 years ago I was in Prague with a group.  We were having fun downtown and one guy with us, about 75 at the time, stopped into a novelty shop and bought a Russian Ushanka hat (the kind with the furry side flipped up on all sides) with a big red star pin in the front.  Granted at that time it was almost a chic novelty to wear old Soviet stuff, but this guy's age and everything I cringed when he bought it.  He looked like he could pass for an old, serious Politburo hack.  He wore it out to the sidewalk and I noticed some dirty looks, and I didn't feel too good about him wearing it.  I asked him to take off the red star and once he did he got no looks.

I experienced for the first time there real-life feeling a lot of Europeans had for that regime.  And that was back in the "harmless" days when wearing campy Russian stuff was okay.  I'd imagine it's not so cool now, even moreso.

I bought some Lenin candles - red candles in the shape of Lenin's face. They lasted a number of years but melted when they were in a garage in Tucson.

Thinking about it, it is probably even closer. Portuguese has different letters and sounds. Written, you'd be hard pressed to distinguish Russian and Ukrainian other than the use of some different words. I haven't had much issue reading most of the Ukrainian stuff.

I only know Brazilian Portuguese, so my comments only apply to that.

Assuming Russia has eyes on all our air bases all over the world, how badly would Putin shit his pants if we put all our stealth aircraft in the air. Lightnings, Raptors, B2s...just scramble everything and have refueling assets up at the same time.

It’s a measured response problem.  You can’t just go in and try to tip the scales without the other side threatening to nuke someone.  We aren’t dealing with sane actors.

Yeah.  But his demands are way too much.  He's going to have to kill everyone.  He's not going home without Ukraine.

I played poker with him once. When I beat him, he stared at me for a minute then told his henchman "Pay this man his money". I was scared shitless for a minute but it worked out. Overall I'd say 5/7. I'd do it again.
