Putin is a toe tappin' fan of Restless Legs:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10824485/New-footage-Putin-bizarrely-twisting-foot-adds-rumours-Vladimirs-health.html

video at link

New footage of Putin bizarrely twisting his foot - which even causes Tajikistan president to stare at the odd movement - adds further weight to rumours about Vladimir's health

The clip was taken yesterday as Putin met with his counterpart from Tajikistan

Russian leader's left foot repeatedly twitched as his knee collapsed inward

There are several examples of Putin unsteady on his legs with twitching feet

Restless leg syndrome is a symptom of Parkinson's - something experts have cited as an ailment that Putin could be facing along with cancer

We should expect some grotesque show trials of any Azov captives.  There will be a full media push around it, too.

It is highly probable that some Azov captives will be revealed to have ties or personal experience with some seriously bad ideology.  Hopefully there is prep work under way to deal with the messaging fall out. What they won’t have is any actual crimes or atrocities to point to. As I’ve been saying in this war, Nazi is as Nazi does. Only one military is committing mass war crimes and murdering civilians with intent.

You know how everyone is showing the clip of Mikhail Khodaryonok talking about the current situation for Russia?  He's the pundit who was actually painting a realistic picture rather than spouting the usual propaganda.  Here's what he said in February...

Worth reading

That was an amazing read.  He nailed all of it.  Makes you wonder how many other military (ex- and current) were thinking the same thing.

Seven tanks? What is that? A typical Thursday afternoon for the Ukranians and those are gone-zo.

what are the odds those tanks are missing critical components and that video is purely propaganda? They're probably taking them to some storage yard where they will rust away to nothing waiting on engines or radios or whatever.

I'd say those odds are very high.

Let’s keep giving them older and older shit, and see exactly how far back in tech we can go and still be superior to current russia (which means current Chinese in a lot of areas I believe)

This is interesting - may present an opportunity for Ukraine to bleed Russia dry and tie up a shitload of Russian troops.  If Russia believes it has to keep Ukraine out of range of Belgograd at all costs, they will probably throw a shitload of untrained conscripts and reservists at it, or at least just inside the Russian border.

Sucks for those defenders. Now they are in Russian captivity. I am sure the Geneva Convention rules will be respected. Oh wait, it is Russia.

Unfortunately we saw this coming - not because of any perceived Nazi bullshit, but because Ukraine was already putting Russian soldiers on trial for war crimes.  There was no way Putin and Co. were going to let that go untouched.

Edit: And you know those Russian soldiers will sing like canaries about their officers/upper leadership pushing them to commit actual warcrimes.

Yeah, I know. Always had a hope they could be relieved or the Russians would take the offer from turkey to demilitarize them, remove them to Turkey and intern them there. So what about the civilians who were in the Factory?

Germans chipping in and trying to get Ukrainian grain out and to the ports.  Russia has really fucked a shitload of people in other countries when it comes to food over the next year or so.

We still have a lot of arrows in the financial quiver, and it appears we are pulling some out.

dumb question:  how does this help anyone not named putin?

aside from perhaps amounting to reverse corporate welfare (which I'm very ok with), why wouldn't we want to take russian money to service outstanding debt?  doesn't that reduce cash available for the russian war effort if it leaves their country?

are western bean counters and bankers so fucking stupid as to open new lines of business with ru, after all this?  I thought russia  was already a pariah state (well, except to those punkass frogs, germans and italians making up rules to get around their own sanctions to buy gas).

From what I recall back in March, there are still plenty of foreign companies doing business with Russia, some directly, some through various third parties or shell companies or whatever.  If Russia starts defaulting, those companies will at the very least, not be bringing in any new business (money) to Russia, and many may take their existing business and close it down/sell it off or whatever and try to GTFO as quickly as possible.

I could be wrong, there are probably economics professors here who can explain it better.

But basically, something about foreign investment completely bailing on Russia outside of a few unsavory countries that would help prop up things in return from favors from Putin (think Syria).

I sort of get that, from a longterm perspective.

however, it seems to me, making russia cash flow negative as much as possible might be more constructive in ending the war sooner (again, no thanks to the Eurotrash).  let them default naturally.

besides, I can easily see the US taxpayer having to cover the debt if the US govt is interfering with the payments.

as far as favors from putin, what a joke.  that piece of shit has never negotiated in good faith.  why would he start now?

#31394

I believe coming payment due is only 500M and Russia is still making billions monthly just from gas and oil so collecting is not going to do anything dramatic to their reserves. Better to have them default and take that long term credit hit. We could roll back sanctions tomorrow but that credit hit is not so easily reversed.

It might hurt the value of the ruble within Russia.  Not sure.

Think of it more in terms of what Russians were able to do in Syria.  There's quite a few dictator-types out there that would like to have Russians around if things go south for them.

#31396

Big resupply in motion...probably room for some nice hardware and some newly tailored pants for Zelensky. Current set is still chaffing his nuts and the man needs some room to breath.

I would think they would in breach of all kinds of covenants up to being able to call in all the outstanding balance but Russia will most likely tell everyone to pound sand.

Should also mean higher borrowing costs for all Russian banks starting with the central bank.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/ukraine-says-long-combat-mission-in-mariupol-has-ended-11652767128?mod=hp_lead_pos8

It's official.  Mariupol has fallen.

Soldiers defending the Ukrainian city of Mariupol laid down their arms at the sprawling steel plant that served for weeks as their final redoubt, ending months of bloody battle for the industrial port that has become a symbol of Russia’s invasion and Ukraine’s resistance.

More than 260 soldiers were taken to Russian-controlled territory on Tuesday morning after Ukraine announced the end of combat operations in Mariupol. Video footage released by Russia’s Defense Ministry appeared to show the men being patted down and escorted to waiting buses. Some were on stretchers, some wrapped in bloodied bandages, and many were gaunt after weeks of surviving on minimal rations.

HIMARS? Logistics trucks? Showing off to RU and China that we can do way more than the fastest airlift of heavy arms ever? All of those?
