Is it weird that I love America more now than before this goat rodeo started?  Think about it.  We came out of a (no CR) disaster in Afganistan, saw what Russia was doing in Ukraine, called them out on it, rallied the allies and then pivoted from, "it's inevitable" to, "FA,FO, Russia," like the morning after that airborne assault failed in Ukraine.

We had the intel and wherewithal to know the tools Ukraine needed, the courage to send them there, and the competence to get them in position ungodly fast.

I volunteered today. Log/Admin role to replace people for 30-60 days. The operation is in the west, or should the Orcs win will be pulled back behind the NATO wall. Either way the humanitarian effort

Agree. I think we recovered a good chunk of street cred putting Russian plans on blast before Feb 24. IMO, that had a huge impact on shaping the initial phase of the war. Props to everyone involved collecting, analyzing, and making the decision to release the intelligence to the world.

First time I saw an officer walking around in the throwback WW2 style dress uniform, I thought the reenactors were in town.

But I like it.

The diet plan for American generals must not consist of copious amounts of vodka as an integral part. These dudes look ready to go.

Yeah, same here. Finally some style.

Have some friends who worked with him. Nothing but solid dude is what they said.

Ya know, sometimes we do pick the right person.

He seems to be a perfect fit.  The irony is that this guy was probably picked well before February.  At that level, decisions are made well in advance so as not to disrupt multiple large commands.

Here's my fan fiction re: Snake Island. Ukraine controlling this island does not give them control of all of the Black Sea shipping lanes, but it does give Ukraine control of Ukrainian waters. Putin has bluffed that as a gesture of goodwill, Russia vacated the island and will allow grain shipments. So, call the bluff. Have some NATO member send cargo ships to Odessa to pick up grain, or send a NATO escort. If/when Russia fires on the ships in Romanian or Bulgarian waters, it triggers article V. Then, NATO imposes a no-fly zone, cripples the Russian Black Sea fleet, etc.

So Russia is forcibly conscripting Ukrainians in territories it currently holds.  That’s goi g to work out well for them, I’m sure.

And now in Russia proper, the government has banned rallies at holding rallies at “railway stations, airports, schools, hospitals, children's and sports grounds and public authorities..”

Sounds like everything is going to plan.

Just like aggy style, they will move the goal post to say we only wanted this much and we got it, all this total Ukraine takeover is hysteria and we never inter to do that.

So Ukraine is writing off retaking Crimea, at least for now.

That’s not how I interpret it…technically, Crimea doesn’t need to rebuilt right now. Although it probably will be after the massive battles that take place there. Ukraine has been pretty open about their intent to retake Crimea.

A Russian colonel was accused of selling information on the whereabouts of his own men to foreign intelligence agencies by concerned Russians, according to Ukrainian authorities.

An audio recording of what the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate says is an intercepted phone call appears to suggest the colonel was not the first who was accused of selling out his own troops. The call, released Monday, includes a conversation between a man identified as a Russian soldier and a female acquaintance. No details were provided on where the soldier was based in Ukraine, but he can be heard in the recording complaining of constant shelling.

Quote

The conversation then takes an interesting turn when the unnamed woman notes that a squadron of the “31st Brigade” was given up by their own Russian colonel, apparently referring to the 31st Guards Air Assault Brigade.

“The airborne troops taken captive?” the man asks. “Yes, yes, 76 people were taken,” she says, adding that “they were sold out by their own” and naming a “Colonel Matkovsky” for the betrayal. “There have already been many such instances,” the man responds, noting that “they leak information” about the troops.

Quote

“It’s true, it’s true. I later spoke with a FSBishnik [an agent of Russia’s Federal Security Service] … and he said yes, it’s all true. They found 17 million in his account,” she said.

Would be hilarious if true.

And not surprising in the least.

The US with the UA will rebuild Crimea.

Little bit of NATO geekery— Cavoli is in the second highest NATO military position. The current Chairman of the Military Committee is a Dutch naval officer.  Cavoli is dual-hatted as Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) which is always an American and is dual-hatted as head of U.S. European Command (EUCOM). He’s been around Europe for a long time— he just recently served as Commanding General of U.S. Army Europe and Africa (coming out of Europe when the commands were combined) and also led a multinational training center in Germany.

His Russia background is a plus, but it’s his long record of working with Europeans on their home turf and in Afghanistan/Balkans that got him this gig.

Panama is going to sue.

Close the canal to any ship carrying Russian cargo or under Russian flag.

Or just confiscate the first nice one that rolls through.

Regardless, fuck yo couch Russia, you go the long way.

@Schulz2.0 this seems like a big deal? US and Western nations not insuring tankers that have Russian oil, including Greek tankers   He also talks about going after grain carriers in another thread as well
